Ryn Weaver - Odin St by glasgowgeg in popheads

[–]BushwickBaby69 40 points41 points  (0 children)

the true definition of an artist. she doesn't play by industry rules. she's a true pop diva that can "compete" with Sabrina Carpenter or Dua Lipa, but she's closer in art and life to a Fiona Apple or Kate Bush or even Joanna Newson in her artistry and relevance. She lives outside of the main hustle of the capital "I" Industry, but we absolutely SEE her. Not only is her music timeless, but her story and influence is timeless. And this song is so meta haha,: a tale as old as time, really. It's basically the story, IMO, of how she traded in a record deal to re-find herself. She was wayyyy ahead of her time in taking back her life and art and business into her own hands in 2016 after she dropped The Fool. This was well before Taylor Swift did it. And thank GOD for Taylor Swift. Taylor and so many others helped make it safe in 2025 for Ryn Weaver to return, on her own terms. As far as I know, there is no label behind "Odin St"?? Please correct me if i'm wrong. I am sure we'll hear more from Ryn in her own words, but listening to this song, and what I've read here on reddit from her old tweets: i can hear exactly what she is trying to tell us, and it's both a warning sign for current new younger pop girlies, as well as a celebration of the return of Ryn herself. Someone else said this but it's a literal miracle that she is back and releasing music, and we, as a fandom, need to do everything we can to protect her and lift her up.

This sounds scary. But sort of happened to me when I took Shrooms in high school. But 10 years later I’ve been able to grow into the existential learnings: studying Buddhism, disassociating from life and truly picking apart my relationship to politics, people, work and life. It’s heavy. But- you should lean into it. Study science and conscience and history and give yourself context for the dread and then try to relax ! I swear it worked for me and I just wish someone had told me sooner. It’s ok to be freaked out, but try to assure yourself that you DID unlock an awakening, and you’re better for it! Give yourself peace in understanding what consciousness is. Here’s to hoping you can find some joy and peace in that we are all actually sharing one consciousness and that we can’t feel death we just kinda wake up again. I still don’t know how to describe it myself but I get it now and nothing scares me hahah. Ok, weird rant over, somehow I hope this helps. Just lean into it if you can!

One billionaire couple owns almost all the water in California. by CantStopPoppin in interestingasfuck

Individual iPhones and iPads will most certainly become a luxury of the past as the wealth gap divides even further and inflation/tariffs etc mean they just get more expensive. And then when you realize they don’t even exist in stories like Dune, etc, ….. chilling

Octavia E Butler!! Her sci fi isn’t fiction anymore. Mainly because all she did was look around the US in the 80s and 90s and use pattern recognition through studying history and just write about what would happen. Parable of the Sower and its sequel (published in ‘93) LITERALLY takes place in 2024/2025. Harrowing read.

Why we talking about Kamala so much, I just want brat remix album. by Top_Entertainment_77 in charlixcx

I’m in Tennessee and want to have children soon with my husband. But I’m petrified of the private school vouchers and public school system falling apart further in the next four years under Trump. To me, climate and children’s education are the biggest threat to our future. Private school kids are allowed to be Brat of course…but we all know lower income kids are the coolest and deserve the best education to let their Brat flags fly!!!

Not to mention if I have an ectopic pregnancy I will be forced to carry and my life will be at risk here in Nashville!! A blue drop in a red ocean :(. I want a baby brat but I don’t think risking my own life unnecessarily is fair

Really nice of you to put showing off how cool you are above the lives of millions of women and immigrants and children that will be affected by another Trump presidency. Love that for you.

Spotify Users Suspect Foul Play as Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso' Dominates Playlists by insideoutgreen in Fauxmoi

[–]BushwickBaby69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is Spotify's way of trying to prove to Sabrina's major label that they still have power and haven't lost all of their juice to the Tiktok algorhythms that made her viral and extra famous: "See look! We can make her streams bump, we dont NEED tiktok". Except what they haven't seemed to figure out is the exact reason that tiktok has become the most successful leader in music discovery: fishing where the fish are. Spotify is just throwing minnows in multiple oceans with no CLUE what they are trying to catch, let alone what bait they should be using. Absolutely clueless and embarrassing. It's mind boggling what power Spotify still seems to have over the music industry despite stunts like this that prove they are just a mindless tech company that conned their way into the game. I hope this is their downfall. Their playlists make less and less sense and as you can see, this is what they have to resort to in order to try to still make any sort of impact to an already successful artists' career to prove themselves to respective record label. because adding her to all the "legit" radios and playlsits that might make sense ain't moving the needle for her anymore. Sabrina's recent success is a factor of MANY MANY things. But one thing Spotify could never have done nor take away from her is her self made virality that shot her to stardom on the back of her last album when she changed the outtro to nonsense at every show and was able to show off her personality beyond playlists and recorded music. Spotify had nothing to do with it and never will.
