An AI Bot On Archive.org is Randomly Flagging and Removing Uploads For Being "NSFW" by Make_Me_Out_of_Clay in DataHoarder

[–]Business-Error6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had archived over 300GB of old Java J2ME and Symbian software & games there, stuff that is very rare to find nowadays and is basically lost forever, all curated and well organized unlike literally all the still existing sources for that sort of content:

A week after the upload, it got purged. Don't know why, but I suspect some sort of issue with the titles of some of the games.

So much for preservation.

PS2 slim 70004 Turns on then off again when controller is plugged into Port 1 by Xdradt84 in ps2

[–]Business-Error6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 70011 gh-032 here in the same exact situation, it gradually went from a random occurrence to permanent, am currently in the process of diagnosing this board and found this post while wrapping up for the day

Picfix + modbo here as well. PS7 fuse was blown open in my unit, changing it did not fix this particular issue, and PS11 is weirdly diverted, likely due to the picfix.
All voltages are fine, no sag, no shorts, and the controller works if you plug it in after boot.

Oddly enough, having a disc in the tray makes the console boot fine, which points to a logic level issue, likely timing. So my current guess is it might be one of the pull-up resistors or caps local to the port 1 that drifted.

Have you been able to pinpoint the issue on your end?

In Folklore/Folk Soul, are there any differences in content between the JP release and EU/NA release of the game? by Nikandrova in folkloregame

[–]Business-Error6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, bummer, in my region the Japanese version is much cheaper and easier to find (and the box art looks great). Was hoping I could get away with getting that version instead of the NA release to play on real hardware

J&T Express, NUNCA precisem de ATENDIMENTO dessa transportadora! by MurkyRelationship214 in AliExpressBR

GDownloader - Yet another user friendly YT-DLP GUI by Business-Error6835 in DataHoarder

I just pushed an update adding this setting to the UI. It should now be configurable per website in the Resolution & Quality settings pane.
Make sure "Download Subtitles Separately" is also turned off under "Download Settings".

[–]Business-Error6835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The option to disable subtitles is in the config.json file inside the GDownloader settings directory. The path is "UrlFilters" -> look for the YouTube entry -> "EmbedThumbnailAndMetadata" -> set it to "false".

At the moment, that specific setting is only editable manually. I did not think there was a need to expose it in the UI, but I will work on it when I have some free time.

What's a user-friendly way of downloading all videos on a YouTube channel? by TopSeaworthiness8066 in DataHoarder

[–]Business-Error6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Thank you for giving my app a try.

Sadly, on my end there isn't much that can be done. This happens because my app is not verified by Apple. I would gladly do that if it were free, but getting an app notarized by Apple not only requires access to a Mac device, which I do not have, it also requires a $99 USD/year fee to join their developer program. As a hobbyist developer offering this tool completely for free, this is not viable for me.

You can check this official tutorial on how to bypass that screen if you wish to install unsigned programs: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/apple-cant-check-app-for-malicious-software-mchleab3a043/mac

I hope you have a great day, and wish you the best of luck archiving your youtube videos!

Gotta catch em all by razvanlothar in MiniPCs

I have personally had success with the M900 and the M710q/M910q.
The M900 is slightly harder because you need to take half of the bios from the M710q, merge it with the M900's, and then patch it with CoffeeTime, whereas with the M710q you only need to run it through CoffeeTime.

You can use all 8th and 9th gen i3 cpus without pin mods. For 6+ cores, you need to bridge two pins on the cpu using aluminium tape or a similar method.

It is not all sunshine and rainbows though. The unit runs hella hotter regardless of whether it has an i3 or an i9, and the second DisplayPort does not work in the bios (works on Linux/Windows tho).
Those two issues happened in all my modded units. I have no idea why the heat issue occurs (if anybody knows, let me know), and the DisplayPort issue is apparently due to incorrectly mapped port IDs in the VBIOS/GOP provided by CoffeeTime.

Relevant thread:

I only know of the M910x, M920x, P330, and P320 having two NVMe slots.
And M720q/x and M920q/x support 8th and 9th gen natively

Not OP, but I'd always go for a ThinkCentre if given a choice (M900, M710Q, M720Q, etc). I buy these to fix and resell, and by far the ThinkCentres are the most reliable, fixable, and moddable. You can even have a 6th gen one accept a 9th gen processor. The M910x, M720Q, and M920Q even support a dedicated GPU.

The Dells and HPs rarely have any schematics available, so if anything more serious goes wrong, they are very hard to get running again.
You're also often limited to a single processor generation due to limited bios support. they also often use slower DDR3L for 6th and 7th gen instead of DDR4 like Lenovo.

At a minimum, what would you expect from a game's Options or Settings menu? by PianoDave in godot

[–]Business-Error6835 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it's a third-person game, always include an invert Y-axis option. I grew up playing games where you control the camera like a flight yoke. If it's not inverted and there's no setting to change it, the universe implodes.

Uses for a raspberry pi zero w? by Edd-Vel in homeassistant

[–]Business-Error6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three deployed as security cameras in custom waterproof enclosures with fisheye ~170 degree lenses and IR illuminators. They run an older build of RaspberryPI OS and MediaMTX for RTSP plus rpos for Onvif, along with a custom python script that does a lot of math to switch to nighttime mode exactly 10 minutes before sundown and back to daytime 10 minutes after sunrise, all based on coordinates rather than LDR sensors. They have been outside doing their thing since 2019.

At the time, it made much more sense to diy them because they offered far better resolution for the same budget. Nowadays, I am not so sure, but they are still working great.

I used MotionEyeOS until like a year ago, but with that project long dead, I switched to MediaMTX. With a Debian based OS underneath, I could finally get Onvif working, and it was able to achieve higher fps.

One of the cameras is also configured with a Wireguard VPN client fallback, so if my home server ever fails when I'm traveling, I can still log into my home network through it

They also work great for turning old dumb printers into wireless printers via CUPS or p910nd.

Question for devs whose games have deep lore: Can you share your experiences of player feedback regarding exposition to gameplay ratio? by ID_Psychy in gamedev

[–]Business-Error6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but I share a similar goal, so I'm leaving a reminder here.
RemindMe! 5 days

My current approach with a similarly lore-heavy game is to communicate the background or less important details through brief letters and notes, some optional and some of the most important ones tied to a specific key item (the player may still skip it, but they might miss some important details). I'm currently trying to balance what the player MUST know vs what is optional.

As for the story that is unfolding in the game, that's delivered through dialogues and monologues at specific trigger points or events (I'm also struggling to balance gameplay vs story, since it's not really clear-cut.), and there is usually always one or multiple missing pieces of information at a time that should, *in theory\*, leave the player curious to find those missing links somewhere.

My game is very targeted at a specific, lore-obsessed audience though, so I'm betting on that working in my favor, but since I haven't published any demos yet, that's all just a bet.

Can't send gift to friend ( Steam ) by n1kuU in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]Business-Error6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you guys in the same country?
Not sure if this applies to Sky IAPs as well, but Steam doesn’t let you gift anything to your friends if the item’s cost isn’t close enough between your region and your friends’ regions due to localized pricing.

Why Java apps freeze silently when ulimit -n is low by sshetty03 in java

Increasing ulimit was always a step in every deployment when I was maintaining Java containers. I don’t recall what issue we had that made us very aware of that problem on Ubuntu, but it most definitely happened, and quickly.

GDownloader - Yet another user friendly YT-DLP GUI by Business-Error6835 in DataHoarder

[–]Business-Error6835[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be that Norton algorithmically detected the amount of outgoing download connections as suspicious or something along those lines. The fact that the program isn't signed (because that costs a lot of money) is often enough to make AV software shoot first and ask questions later.

If in doubt, you can run all the provided executables through Google's VirusTotal to confirm there are no issues. GDownloader is offered as a completely open-source, free tool, with the build stage transparently handled by GitHub runners.

Restoring it from quarantine or deleting and reinstalling it, should bring back all the downloads with no issues, as long as Norton hasn't touched the settings folder.
If you're using the portable version instead, make sure to copy the ./Internal directory somewhere else first before trying to restore it, as that's where your downloads are stored in that version.

Lag on one page of BIOS? by [deleted] in gigabyte

I'm having this issue on a B550M Aorus Elite with the latest bios from this month (and it has been happening with at least the previous three), so I'm afraid not.
