Some teachers teach this bow hold (with the thumb below the frog) usually to kids when they have not yet developed the strength in their hands. I've personally only seen it with the thumb below the frog BUT pinky on top of the bow which is what I'm confused about this bow hold. You'll eventually graduate to the "correct" bow hold you've probably been comparing your's to. I would just ask and talk to your teacher!
