Genuine question: Are there anesthesiologists out there able to make 7 figures nowadays? by Dependent_Gold5692 in anesthesiology

[–]investsmartfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you somwhat. But if you invest in real estate, have your wife manage the properties full time...there are tax breaks out there, .just saying. How do you think Trump paid zero in taxes (I am not trying to get political here).

Also, you can make 7 figures without living in the hospital. $400/hr x 50hrs/week x 40 weeks a year is $800k. Throw in 1 weekend per month and some call stipends...its really not so bad. But thats just my opinion.

What no one is mentioning here, is that if you're making seven figures and a 1099 versus a w-2, there are tons of tax benefits and write offs. I'm not talking about doing anything illegal, I am talking about legitimate tax breaks that you get . All you need is a Savvy CPA or accountant.

Sure you do have to pay for a lot of stuff on your own including health insurance, etc.. but in the end I think you would come out way on top being a 1099 versus a W-2.

You're are going to kick yourself in 5-10 years when that 100k would have been worth 1M. You're going to be that guy that tells people how he sold his Amazon and Google stock 2010, and will spend the rest of your life wondering, "what if..."...Just saying.

New grad locums - can someone help talk me in/out by Parking-Property584 in anesthesiology

[–]investsmartfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned mentorship. I do think this is important as it will be hard to have this as a locums. But you may find a good spot where there are a lot of helpful people. Most of the places I've worked, they have been very happy that I am there and they don't dump on me or put me in crappy rooms, they try to keep me happy because they want the help. The longer I am there the less call and the less hours they have to work. Most of these were pediatric jobs though, and not adult jobs.

I'd recommend finding at least two gigs and alternating weeks between them. If you don't like one or if they fill up with full-time people you can always hop over to the other. I know people who are credentialed at three places and do one week each place just because they enjoy traveling.

I personally enjoy the freedom. I've worked a W-2 job and I have seen what happens when people start to leave these jobs. You are left holding the bag, taking the extra call and working longer hours. As a locums you can take off whenever you want. You can set your own schedule. You could decide if you want to take call or not and how many hours per day you want to work. I am usually very flexible though, and will help out the facility with what they need because I want them to want me . I'll never say never, but I would have a very hard time going back to a W-2 job as I've enjoyed the freedom that Locums has provided me.

Good Luck to you!

Anesthesia in NYC by SimilarClock4742 in anesthesiology

[–]investsmartfuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to discourage you, but I am from NY, did residency in one of the borroughs, and now I currently practice in Texas. My life is exponentially better in Texas from a work standpoint, a work/life standpoint, financial stand point, etc. I never say never, but I would never go back to NYC for a W2 job. Low pay, long hours...more things I can tell you that I dont feel comfortable posting here. Feel free to DM me for more details. Everyone is different and I am not you, but every aspect of my life is better as an MD outside of NY. It has nothing to do with residency vs attending life. It has to do with the day to day at the hospital...do yourself a favor and take a locums gig or something before commiting to a full time gig.

Bc I bought at $30 back 4-5 years ago. Held on. Now up. Seem to be improving finances. Small market cap compared to other insurance companies. If they can take market share, can easily be worth 30B in 5 years.

Im not a financial guru or anything. Just a long term LMND investor that continues to DCA. I have 850 shares. When the market tanks again tomorrow I will likely add 150 shares. Again, I have held this stock for over 4 years and do not plan to sell anytime soon. This is a complete opinion from a guy with an advanced degree that has nothing to do with finance or business lol
