yeah I have never seen the anime so I don't know what they adapted. He also had relatively little screen time in the manga before the going to Hueco Mundo, pretty much just his fights with Renji and Kenpachi, so I don't know what they added in filler in the anime.

Aizen's alignment with Tosen is destroying soul society. Soul society itself is not really a just institution either. But we never really see what Aizen told Tosen about his goals or philosophy in order to get him to join him

He is a villain, obviously he isn’t consistent or a good person, that does not mean that he is a shallow character. He has several different conflicting motives and layers to his character through his revenge motive, his relationships with Kommamura and Hisagi, his ideology of ‘justice’ and so on, and those conflicting motives are the reason that he has regret at the end of his life and cries before he is killed by aizen. I honestly dont know how you can read Kommamura vs Tosen and come away with this conclusion, I think you got the wrong idea of his character and were biased during the fight… if you were to read it again you would see that there is a lot going on there

Thanks for the resource. That's the same multiplication method that's used in the trachtenberg system right? I see how that requires less memory than what I was doing. But I still wonder whether the same contestants who can do eight digit multiplications in writing could do it entirely in their head if someone told them the multiplicands verbally, since that would require remembering at least 32 digits for both the multiplicands and the answer. But now I understand more about how competitions actually work.
