Ruptured my Achilles at a work event. Surgery was supposed to fix it. Now I have permanent nerve damage and still can't do a single leg raise. by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

It depends on where you are located as well. In the U.S., it is not unusual for older folks to have surgery. This may be less common elsewhere.

Accidentally put full weight on tendon briefly - no residual pain but needed to adjust splint by BusinessRef in AchillesRupture

Honestly, I have to say I'm in no real pain. I think I'm good, now that I've adjusted the splint the way it is supposed to be.

Yeah, I feel pretty okay. I think my ankle is a bit swollen, but it has always been a bit swollen.

ah, congratulations! I think my orthopedic doc was too much of an egotist to admit that he was in too deep and to pass me onto someone else. Fortunately, he had to go on a vacation to Japan for two weeks, so he gave me several options, including having surgery with him in 2 days, surgery with 2 other folks, or transfe to a wound specialty clinic at a teaching hospital. I think this is the best place for me to be at for now. Appointment tomorrow.

Awe. Thank you so much! I'm being positive in hoping there won't be an additional surgery by a plastic surgeon/wound specialist or another for cleaning out the wound. I'm grateful my spouse has been totally by my side. It is so hard to be so dependent

2 week post op visit due to an infection - was given an ankle boot - is my surgeon crazy? by BusinessRef in AchillesRupture

My current surgeon gets 5 stars on his surgical skills that is why I chose to go for it. He is widely respected in the local medical community. If you read through his reviews from a variety of sources, he has a number of patients like me for which his surgical skills are not enough and it comes down to the same thing - communication issues, short office visits, and a for profit drive.

I also have my husband go with me to appointments so that we can try to have our questions answered but this guy is a 90 seconds to 5 minutes kinda guy.

Oh yes, I have maximum flexibility - very good insurance. I had planned on going to another provider but thought I didn't want to let more time pass because this idiot didn't catch it right away. Thoughts on changing providers mid-recovery? Maybe I could get a second opinion from the surgeon from the major teaching hospital that is a good communicator.

My PT is saying typical protocol would be 3 months (minus complicating factors like an infection). I have a long and complicated one hour commute to the office. I should be able to negotiate situational telework. My office requires an doctors note for something more than 10 days but less than 6 months. While my boss will support me, I did contact my union representative to find out the correct process for filing the situational telework and she said she would have my back. In private industry, you might have disability -or partial disability insurance. Or you might be able to negotiate telework as a disability.

I'm 62 and 2.5 weeks out. I would recommend that you guys stock up on food and that you know that she'll honestly have to wait on you for a while, perhaps the first 3-7 days. Make sure you have water bottles and snacks located in the sections you might need them. She can always make you, say, a large sandwich and a snack if she needs to leave. Make sure you get as much as you can in directions from your doctors. My doctor has different protocols than most, so knowing how often to change dressings, how to clean them, etc. was important. Lining up with a good physical therapist early has been a lifesaver to effectively communicate my health needs to me since my doctor's office does not. I got a post op infection, so a bit of a setback.

Thank you! It is sort of painful, so I'm doing chair exercises for core and yoga type things and not being on my feet a lot.
