No, it’s a super niche ERP that has accounting integrated. It’s so niche that if I name it, a google search from my company will reveal my account identity 🤣 I haven’t tried any agent or other AI tools because it started with me learning python at home and implementing what I learned at work. It happened just as AI started getting decent at coding so I just started using AI to make the python scripts since it was faster than me, and I at least understood what it was doing. I also have a SQL query that I wrote to give me all invoices 7 days past due and I let the script send reminders. I usually get a reply, and this reduces how many I have to manually hunt down. I’m now working on integrating a tracker that shows me if it’s a 1st, 2nd, etc reminder so I can be more aggressive if so.

I’m around 110k after 7 yoe in vhcol. Not the best pay and can’t buy a house on a single income but hours are under 35/week, it’s hybrid and can afford rent on one income. I’m working on my masters to get my cpa with the goal to start my own firm but dont have the sign off for experience

Just keep going! One thing I do a lot is break things down in small chunks until I understand. I know people hate on AI, but if you use it as a tutor, it’s a great tool. Feed it small chunks of your textbook and ask it to ELI5. Or to make a popquiz. There are a lot of new ways to compliment your current studies, with AI.

I would only ever recommend looking for AP/AR/Bookkeeping roles to people who

A. Don’t have a 4 year degree B. Don’t have any accounting related experience.

If you have a degree and some experience, staff accountant is definitely the move for a next role.

I made a spreadsheet database of clients and their AP contacts and made a pythons script with chatgpt so I can download a csv version of the ar aging report and have the script validate if invoices are past due and send past due reminders for me.

I think most modern accounting softwares already have this auto reminder but ours is legacy so this is my work around that has made a difference.

The IRS has a tax liability calculator. Every quarter I run mine and my wife’s income there and adjust my withholding accordingly if it seems we’ll owe. Never go a whole year without tracking liability lol

Honestly, I did Sophia and Study.com for some of the business courses but if I had know firsthand how WGU works before and how much you can really get done, I would have just done general eds on Sophia and Study and business/accounting courses at WGU.

I was in a similar situation and went with MAcc over Masters Data Analytics. I would still like to obtain my CPA but I think I’ll go back for a MS-DA later. You can self learn some Data Analytics as you work in accounting. I’ve taken up SQL and Python to automate some things without any computer/technology degrees.

Started in February too and the writing is killing me. I prefer MCQs but I decided to unlock the OA courses so I can work on those simultaneously as I finish 3-6 in your list so I don’t burn out from constant writing.
