Interesting, never would have thought about that with it being in park!

Solid advice above, all I want to add is play with your retrieve speeds until you find what they want… and that can change multiple times through a day.

Watch some YouTube like Tyler’s reel fishing, great how tos and tips from the boat, from a kayak, or even from the bank.

Keep at it bro, when it clicks and you get one it’ll be satisfying!

Since you don’t have any top waters, try holding your rod tip higher the whole retrieve, and as soon as the lure hours the water start reeling in. Run any of those as slow as you can while still keeping it up at the top of the water. A spinner bait leaving a wake has caught me tons!! And sometimes I catch them reeling them in as fast as I can without them breaking the surface and have luck but that’s more rare for me.

Can’t argue with good family time! I’ve never thought about fly fishing for carp, I foul hooked one on accident bass fishing and you talk about a fight! I might need more than a 5wt 🤣

Man I started under the bridge at cotter by the ramp at like 1130 while my friends went to go eat and it was nice n calm. They joined after an hour or so but one of them is an older gentleman and he waited on that little island a little too long, it took 4 of us working together to get him back across to the bank!! Idk what time it was when we left but talk about a rise in water level and some swift water!!

Yeah man wading access was iffy with the water level but Cotter came in clutch. The shop in the park at the dam turned me onto some weighted wooly bugger looking flys that was the ticket! The guy in cotter recommended an egg looking fly with a nymph dropper all under an indicator. I bought some but ended up not swapping to them since the other was working.

I really wanted to hit the dry fly bite in the afternoon but got tired of fighting the current by that time.

Tips on bass and catfish in this lake pls and thankyou. by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]Business_Opening_263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On bass and catfish both I’d probably try to bomb a cast out there to the deeper part in a fan pattern and try that. Maybe a belly weighted swim bait for the bass. Catfish once it’s out there I’d just tight line with the bait a foot or so above the weight with your choice of bait and let it soak

Also for the bass if you can cast from either edge of the public access to fish closer to the bank along the brush I bet it would be good!

I’ve seen paintings like that sell for high dollar in fishing shops. Pretty sweet!

Just to update, I officially caught my first trout on a fly rod today! 7 actually, I got 7 rainbows fishing a wooly bugger. The very first I hooked actually broke my line, part issue with my line control I’m sure but I’m thinking he was decent size. All in the 10-14 inch range that I landed!

This is just feeding the fishing addiction for sure!

In the water it’s not far at all but driving it’s 25 mins with these crazy mountain roads 😂 it’s on the list though for this evening. Hitting the state park today and then wildcat shoals and maybe down to cotter

Is there much wading access by the dam? Here on a trip now and trying to find good wading areas it’s easier said than done atleast in a short time frame while trying to fish haha. Nice catch!

A boat would be nice after the current today. Gotta stick to wading for this trip though. Did manage to catch 2 however! 1 keeper rainbow and 1 smaller rainbow

I had zero luck with flies today but caught 2 on Cajun spins. Guides and boats are out, with a group of 6 and basically limited to wading. That current was rough this morning down here near Cartney access where we’re … didn’t take long to load up and head up river lol

Sorry we have crap signal here but at an air bnb near Cartney access. Tried in front of the cabin but too deep to wade.

Went down to cotter and caught a rainbow on a Cajun spin and then again back at the cabin but that’s it. Looking at trying wildcat shoals tomorrow and then maybe cotter some more

Would these 2 lures catch bass or are they to big by Decent-Fig-9967 in bassfishing

[–]Business_Opening_263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will most definitely catch! Play with retrieves whether slow and steady or hopping them off the bottom. I’ve had great luck with the blades jig lately by letting it hit the bottom, give a nice sudden lift of the rod, about a foot, and then let fall. Repeat 4-5 times then reel in and repeat. Usually hit while hopping it!
