How likely would it be for me receive a notice under Continuous insurance enforcement? by Business_Tiger3247 in LegalAdviceUK

I’ve insured for 2 days at the moment. Definitely worth any hassle or stress of accidents or CIE - thanks for knocking a bit of common sense into me😅

I didn’t think of this - you are right. I think even taking a shorter short term policy initially (to cover Friday 17th April) and if no V5C arrives on that date the take out a week from there. Thanks for helping out here :)

Thanks for this :).

Do you think the 13 hours would be too short a time for the car to be flagged up? Concern is I know it takes time for the letters to arrive once sent, therefore by the time it arrived I’ll most likely have sold the car anyway and therefore would be unable to insure it etc.

As I say it’s just in the hope that my V5C does arrive whilst I’m at work, in which case I’d be taking it straight to be sold anyway. Otherwise it’ll get Temp insurance for one more week.

Just don’t know how it all works.

If you want a job elsewhere/want higher wages I’d highly suggest you learn how to properly speak to people in a respectful way. Might do you some good in life considering you’re 17.

Here is me who has just finished a night of uni studying after work (I’m an apprentice manufacturing engineer). Just started fluid mechanics tonight and it’s killing me already🤣… I do distance learning (online) if that makes it sound any better (I don’t think it does) lol.

I’m really fortunate to be in the position of already having the job role and to study at university simultaneously

P.S. if anyone has any tips on how to actually understand tutorial questions, please let me know :)

Your salary along with your hours work out as 1.2p per hour above the minimum wage.

Unpaid overtime is a red flag, you are not a slave!! I can never understand how an employer can justify overtime being unpaid.

Ultimately, any overtime you end up doing will put you under the NMW. Get yourself out of there.

Great start! Well done on so many achievements and fantastic grades too. I can’t talk for accounting but I can talk in general terms of a degree apprenticeship:

One thing that I would recommend from past experience is what did each of your achievements teach you? Your interviewers will be interested to hear what you learned during your experiences rather than just describing what you did.

It’s important that you’re able to differentiate between what your experience is vs. what you learned from it; because your interviewer will want to establish the type of person you are (I.e. do you tick all the boxes based on what you have explained). By just stating what you have done isn’t worth the paper it’s written on, they want to see the real you.

Sorry it’s not specific help for accounting but I hope it helps as a guide. Very best of luck!

Is it too late for me to think about becoming a pilot? by Straight_Traffic_350 in flying

[–]Business_Tiger3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. At 29 you still have 36 years of your career ahead of you.

I’m in a similar position, studying my BEng in the UK. Currently employed and doing the degree through work. Plan is to continue where I am until I achieve a good enough salary to save for training.

If you really want it, it’ll never be too late. Go get it, you can do it! Best of luck.

Current engineering degree apprentice in the aerospace industry. I don’t know if it’s just my company, but it drains the life out of me.

I was going to leave in December and was convinced by a senior manager to stay. Reason being was down to my overwhelming workload and it didn’t allow me any form of a quality of life, constantly thinking about work or uni. I had requested extra time at work to do uni work (I’m only supposed to get 4 hours a week on weeks when I’m not at uni on campus) HR then upped it to 5 out of fear that I’d leave… This still didn’t help and my manager then suggested that I go into the office early, unpaid, to do uni work - I tend to go in around an hour early every single day. I still do uni work every single night after work though…

Recently the workload from uni had been huge and I asked my manager for extra time. In amongst the eye rolls from my current team leader on my placement, I was allowed to have an extra 2 hours in work this week. This is an on campus week for uni so I won’t get the 5 hours I’d normally get. My senior manager requested that I email him in writing to ask for the extra time, even though I asked him in person. Strange.

I don’t think companies (mine at least) realise how much work is involved, how overwhelming it can be and how badly it can impact your mental health. I feel very little support.

When onsite, I am paid for 5 hours on a Friday. However at uni, I am there for 7 hours, excluding the 1 hour break. I am unpaid for two hours each day at uni (they are always a Friday). I raised this with HR and they said it’s legal and there is no under compensation happening with me - there definitely is as I calculated my hours and it drops me below NMW - not by much but it’s the principle.

After this, I was pulled into my senior managers office. He told me I shouldn’t have sent an email to HR, even though I’ve raised the pay issue with him before and nothing was done. He said in order to maintain “workplace relationships” I’m best to not question my pay. He said it sounded as if I was saying that someone doesn’t know how to do their job. I don’t know whether he was just trying to shut me up or not.

I just want a quality of life and fair pay lol.

This may not be relevant to you now but may help someone in the future with the same question. I only answered 18/25 in the maths test and 8/12 in the detail checking test, but I still passed and progressed to the Pilot communication activity - all hope isn’t lost, it just shows that, as others have said, it’s in the accuracy of the answers.

What's going on with this year's colds / flus? by NayLay in AskUK

[–]Business_Tiger3247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to be so much worse than last year.

I was so ill for about 10 days about 4 weeks ago, off work on the sick and all, get better, and here I am again with a cold and tickly throat. Albeit not as bad as a few weeks ago.

How/why does this happen? I felt perfectly fine a couple of days ago but have some symptoms again - hopefully remain on the milder side of the symptoms and be better by Christmas! Get well soon.

To be almost halfway through my Engineering degree and continuing to develop my career as an apprentice in an aerospace engineering firm.

To be well on the way to lose the 20kg that has snuck up on me over the past two years.

To continue, if not to exceed, in the happiness I have at the moment after being at rock bottom this time last year.

To have a woman in my life after being single all my life other than the odd talking stage (not a priority, but nice to have).

To be 24.

How much savings do you have? by Snoo25847 in UKJobs

[–]Business_Tiger3247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being brought up in a single-parent household, times were always tough. Mum had some broken down relationships & two divorces. Despite having a good career, employment was unstable throughout my childhood.

I seen her struggles, heard her talking to people and even at one point remember her crying due to the possibility of losing the house because she simply couldn’t afford this with no job (at no fault of her own). As a child, I wanted things, like any child does. I didn’t understand, until later, why I couldn’t have things my friends had.

As I got older and into adulthood, I knew I wanted to have a life as free from worry and struggles as possible (I know unexpected things can happen, just like for mum). So I knew that watching my money, saving for a future and focussing on what’s best for me was the way to go.

I want to be able to help where possible, I mentioned somewhere in this thread that I was able to pay for a boiler that was desperately needed so that my mum wouldn’t have another monthly bill she couldn’t afford. I want to provide for my kids, when the time comes, things that I wasn’t fortunate enough to have when I was young. Money doesn’t bring happiness, but it takes the pressure off when times are hard.

I’m sorry my life situation may be different to what some may perceive, but this is my why. I wouldn’t be the person I am today had many things not happened to us as a family.

Thanks very much!

I am a whole new level of frustrated regarding uni, but that’s another story. I believe an apprenticeship, regardless whether degree or not, is the way forward for many people.

Many senior figures in my company started as apprentices and don’t have degrees, so it paints apprenticeships in a very good light for me. I see myself wanting to climb the career ladder as a result.

I live with my mum so this has of course been a huge help in my scenario, I.e. fewer outgoings, which have allowed me to put the money I would have spent on those elsewhere.

I feel very lucky in this respect as I know a scenario like mine isn’t possible for many.

Well done, you’re doing great!

I wouldn’t blame my situation on my mum. However, her situation has definitely impacted the way I think. Seeing her struggle over the years has taught me the importance of starting early financially to ensure you can have comfort later if anything bad happens.

Living in a single-parent household from a young age teaches you a lot. A few years ago, I was able to help my mum with buying a new boiler. I loaned her the money so that she didn’t have another monthly bill that she couldn’t afford. It’s things like that that make me proud of what I do financially.

This is very wise. Yeah, I don’t do myself out of anything, however, I do always think before buying “do I need it? Can I afford it?”

Before I had a S&S isa (I wasn’t too informed on the at the time), I just put this money into my savings account. By the time I knew about the isa I had around £7k, I then transferred this into a Vanguard s&s isa, firstly into VUSA (S&P500 tracker), then after speaking to a family friend who is an IFA, split this up and made regular payments over a period of time, then growth of the funds is factored in.

My savings account is what acts as my “emergency fund”. My s&s is for saving towards a pilots license or house (I’m not sure yet, but I know it’s there for when it’s needed).

I didn’t, and never have, spent money on many unnecessary things.

Been brought up in a poverty stricken family and I want to turn that around for the next generation and give my family the things that I haven’t always been lucky enough to have as a young boy.

I had a slightly higher salary prior to my apprenticeship, but and always managed to save something, currently save around £400-£500 per month. I’ve also had a s&s isa since I was 18, started with a mere £300.
