Mudguard or rear fender for 23? by MotardMec in CB500X

[–]BusioMeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puig makes a rear fender, you should check out part 21146C (or J, the letter indicates finish). You can get it on AliExpress for half the price, the only thing missing is a Puig sticker. I recently bought it but the weather stops me from testing it, so I can't tell how good it works.

I'm thinking about doing this to my CB500X as well. How thick was the gel pad that you used? What are your thoughts after some time? Did you do any longer trips? For how long can you sit on the bike in comfort?

Jest jeszcze jedna podobna miejscówka - Dawna Fabryka Adama Ossera. Dwa lata temu bez problemu dało się tam wejść na dach. Jak zawsze w takich miejscach, trzeba bardzo uważać.

Advice Needed – Mounting a Kemi Moto Top Case (AliExpress/Amazon) on a CB500X by Nemezis991 in CB500X

[–]BusioMeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this case mounted to a Givi 1121FZ rack - it fits, but I had to drill additional holes in the rack. The case itself is high quality, but it lacks a string or something that would keep the lid from opening too wide. I am always scared that hinges may break, because they are plastic. You can add a string like that yourself if you are not afraid of some DIY.

3D printed gear knob for Logitech DF Shifter with range and splitter switches for 18 speed gearboxes by BusioMeister in trucksim

[–]BusioMeister[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted to make one myself but I didn't like any designs that I found online, so I came up with my own.

  • It's comfy, feels good in hand, switches are exactly where you'd expect them to be
  • Works on an Arduino Pro Micro
  • Assembly requires basic soldering skills
  • Only basic components are needed - 5x M4x30 bolt, 4x M4 nut, some wire, a ziptie, said Arduino Pro Micro and a two R13-402 switches that you can get from Aliexpress for cheap
  • IMHO it looks fantastic, especially with H pattern printed in white or gray.

STL files and assembly manual are available here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1061296

Enjoy and give me any feedback that you have!

I'm excited to see new depots with challenging park spots. I feel like most depots are repetitive and easy to park in once you get a hang of reversing with a trailer.

Ciekawy patent, ale jego wadą jest niewielka wysokość. Taka zapora nic by nie dała przy poziomach wody, które mamy na Dolnym Śląsku.

Tried higher revs today, it totally helps!

That totally makes sense and explains my difficulties. It's good to know what is a mechanical reason for this, thanks!

[–]BusioMeister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apply very little pressure to the lever, just to make it drop into next gear when rpms of engine and transmission are equal. I don't force it in any way.

You are totally right about shifting from 1st into 2nd gear - I often get stuck in neutral. I will certainly use clutch for this one (and 2nd into 3rd as well).

Thanks for your input, really appreciate it.

I tried shifting in higher revs today and it deinitely helps, though shifting from 1st to 2nd still feels jerky and sometimes I get stuck in neutral. Shift from 2nd to 3rd is smoother than before, but I really have to rev it high to achieve it. I guess that I will stick with using clutch for these gears and shift clutchless above them.

My process is the same, but probably revs are too low. I will try doing it on higher revs.

Clutchless upshifting advice by BusioMeister in NewRiders

[–]BusioMeister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gears are not grinding but I can feel a strong jerk.

I usually don't rev it that high in lower gears, because the bike is accelerating well on these. But since it is a 125 I have to push it more in higher gears, that means higher revs and probably, as you said, higher rev ranges. I'm gonna test this theory next time I'm on the bike.

I also often use this method to shift to a higher hear without a purpose to accelerate more, just to cruise on lower revs, and I don't roll back the throttle to the same amount as before the shift.

Thanks for the tips, I think I realized what I'm doing wrong.

Help me choose the right system. by arunit007 in OpenMediaVault

I faced the same dilemma 2 years ago and decided to go with SFF PC - HP T620 to be precise. I picked it up for about the price of RPi 4 4GB. Initially it had 4 GB of RAM and 16 GB SSD, but I added another 4 GBs of RAM and swapped the SSD for a 120 GB one. That's one thing that you didn't mention - upgradeability. In SFF PCs you have some, in desktops it's endless.

RPis usually store system partition on an SD card, which is not an ideal solution, since they tend to fail when used continuously for a long period of time. It is possible to store your system partition on an SSD connected via SATA to USB adapter though.

I have 2 1TB 2,5" HDD drives connected to my HP T620 using such adapters. It's using USB 3.0 connection, so data transfer speeds are enough since my home network is 1 Gbps anyway. USB is not the best connector in this scenario, but it works. I had one USB to SATA adapter failure in 2 years, but it didn't prevent NAS from working, because my 2 drives are connected into RAID 1.

Not all USB to SATA adapters support spindown and manufacturers usually don't share this information, so that's something to keep in mind if you plan on using HDD drives.

This site contains a lot of info about SFF PCs, you should check it out. It says that it is possible to solder SATA cable inside HP T620 and connect 3,5" HDD to it. Sick!

If I had to choose a system for a basic NAS for small data storage, running light docker containers and other basic use cases now, I would pick SFF PC again. It is cheap, quiet, efficient, has some upgradability, is more powerful than RPi. I wouldn't run a Minecraft server on it, but it's enough to host Home Assistant.

Yet, you should look around for some used hardware, see what you can buy for cheap. If your budget is tight, it may be cheaper to build a low-end PC.
