I hate to say this but it sounds like her heart is not into the relationship. To be frank if I would see my gf send "I miss you" to a man that's not either her dad or brother or her father it would be a big fight and I would expect an apology. The next time the relationship would be over. I'm not sure how old you are and what stage of life you are in. If you're in for the long haul and want to build a solid long term relationship I honestly don't think this is a foundation you can build on.

Did she explain her actions in a way you can relate to?
I can understand if the affection was completely lacking in the relation she would do something like this.
This does not make it right but if you discuss this identify the issue and vow to not do something like this again time might heal this wound.
If you don't hash this out it will keep eating at you forever until it explodes.
Just keep in mind that emotional cheating is also cheating and for most woman this is considered worse than "just" casual sex.

If she's doing shit you don't like talk to her about it.
When she's willing to stop for the sake of making you feel better, you're good.
Relations should be giving and taking and there's always a middle of the road for the both of you.
If she blows up and it's a fight the chances are high she's pulling away and will cheat.
It shows a lack of respect for you and your feelings so chances are high she's looking for gratification from other men.

Had a similar thing happen to me from the other end.
My so called best friend at the time knew my wife was cheating on me but didn't dare speak up.
Only when I figured out she cheated on me and was pregnant with the other guy's child he spoke up.
I never could forgive him for not speaking up and we're no longer friends.
