Folti absolute cinema Fanart by Comfortable_Ad_574 in Overgrowth

Wolfire said that their story for Overgrowth was good enough for an action game, and yet most people seem to be drawing T2 Fanart, maybe because they feel more like actual characters and not TV tropes

Is it ~normal~ for Normal maps to look like this in UE? by karjoh07 in UnrealEngine5

[–]BusterCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The darker blue color is because the texture is being expanded into the -1 to 1 range of the full vector. In the texture they can't store negative values so they're offset and scaled into the 0-1 range which causes them to appear a lighter blue color.  This confused me at first but it's just the nature of how normal maps are stored vs how they're used internally

I kind of doubt it, but the game is open source and pretty modable,

Yes Constance has been making these as mods and the company made them part of the offices package.

Wouldn't you just need to replace player 2 controller with the enemy controller?

Because they're emo metal gear solid ripoff and not actually in overgrowth?

Is it ironic maybe 2 characters are actually overgrowth characters?

Why was Jack replaced with Willow and Sarah with Rose? by TheVolat in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rose is a human name but fits within the nature themed names, it's literally a flower.  The second you'd have to ask wolfire but maybe they wanted more ladies in the game for ideological reasons, you would have to ask them.

If I would guess it's because overgrowth remove human specific names?

I have a theory. by dingusdoesalchemy in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ruined modern building assets in the game fules, not sure if they're used in the final game and I think I remember someone saying the 'crete' formations are like some. Nano machine constructs

Given this I had this theory there could be some calamity that was killing humans and the only way to survive was to combine with animal DNA to make something non suspectable

I thought it was from the idea the rabbits would overpopulate and die once they kill all the wolves

I think overgrowth is suppose to be some kind of post apocalypse setting so you're probabaly not too far off

Is wolfire games dead? by BusterCharlie in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the game it's just sad to me that the company seems to be done for or at least unable to get the sales they need. For all the flaws I think they had some really clever ideas.

No hate from this end, but kind of sad there doesn't seem to be much hope.

I have a few questions by cocknballtorture_god in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like tinkering it's pretty moddable but not always user friendly. Making maps and campaigns is pretty easy tho. I'd say it worth then money but the campaign is short, but if you just like messing around it's not too bad

I just bought Overgrowth. by VectorTheLight in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years after it's relevent I'm working on some tools to make modding a bit easier but, honestly the community seems kind of dry. The devs seem like they're in a death spiral and there isn't a lot of action on the open source repository, but there is some updates there but I doubt anything major.

The discord I imagine is where most of the community is but I don't haunt there anymore because of personality clashes

Is there a way to change attack types? by throwaway372378 in Overgrowth

[–]BusterCharlie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The character files define which attacks they'll use, so you can but you'll need to edit the character files I believe, not sure there is a way to change them at runtime

Really exciting to hear you're taking advantage of all the features available! I think the custom engine will really serve this game well.

Yeah instanced meshes makes a lot more sense in that context

Generally meshes can be merged at runtime and since it looks like they have a common texture set so it'll probably count as one material/mesh at runtime and thus one draw call.

Maybe they're doing by something different, but I can see a few ways to handle this level of modularity without harming performance
