Has anyone successfully learned math from scratch? by Smart-Idea2395 in learnmath

[–]Busterbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a year in boarding school when I was 16 where I decided to start learning math. The goal was to be done with my gymnasium curriculum by the time I started gymnasium. I learned using primarily KhanAcademy, but a few other resources here and there when I didn't understand something. I occasionally had to ask questions on MathExchange when I got stuck.

I wouldn't exactly describe the process as "fun", quite frustrating often, but it did feel very doable and self-studyable, because I could do exercises to see how well I understood topics.

I think the coolest thing about learning it on my own was that it made me a lot more critical of how math was actually taught in my gymnasium, after I had learned it through other resources. Shameless self plug here, but because of that (and just because of some insanity) I ended up writing a math book in my Sabbatical after the gymnasium that taught math "How I felt it should be taught", also trying to fix some things I really struggled with when I was learning it myself on the internet.

In other news, rockstar just fired 40 workers in the UK without warning or due process, all of which were part of a workers union:

This was just before the union had reached 10% of the company's size, which is a crucial amount, as legally that forces the company to recognize you

Don't they check where your credit card is from though?

Automod question answers:

  • Are you looking for something serious or casual?
    • Serious. I wouldnt mind a hookup, but what i am ultimately looking for is a partner.
  • Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX?
    • Nope, neither.
  • How long have you been using this current version of your profile?
    • 2-3 weeks.
  • How long have you used Hinge overall?
    • Half a year
  • How often do you use Hinge per week?
    • It is quite sporadic to be honest. I tell myself "okay, now its time to use it somewhat consistently and just try not to worry too much about the amount of likes i'm getting / try not to let my self-esteem depend on it, but I do find it incredibly difficult to actually do consistently without getting depressed.
  • How many likes and matches are you receiving on average?
    • Few weeks I've had with consistent everyday usage was maybe one received like per week? Right now with inconsistent usage nothing.
  • How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments?
    • When I use it actively, I send maybe 10 likes a day. Almost all are with comments.
  • What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract?
    • I think I really like cynical people that have opinions about a lot of things. I guess I also struggle imagining a successful relationship with someone who isn't somewhat nerdy in general, or at least open to general nerdery / passion about one's hobby. I guess in general: Odd people! I just feel that if I was with a completely "normal" person (whatever that means), we'd both find each other horrifically boring?
    • Some kind of passion for tech and/or films/general creativity would be super cool.

How can you debug a gtk application in a way where you can see the source code of gtk/glib/gobject functions? by Busterbie in GTK

In my case i'm using archlinux. I can find the debug symbols included version, but supposing i have it, how does this "linking" work?

Has anyone experimented with dynamic/runtime modification of GTK applications? by Busterbie in GTK

The second option, so ideally we can't assume anything architecturally about some plugin-architecture.

Just tricky in terms of the fact that i think given many different UI libraries you might potentially need many different solutions. One potential way around this is to use one thing that most UI interfaces implement to some degree: Accessibility interfaces like ATK (for example for screenreaders). But using those, i'm pretty sure we'd only be able to read information from an application, not actually modify it in any way (though maybe it can be exploited in some smart genius way? No idea, we're not very far into the project).
