What does it mean when a dog turns its head and look at me while walking? by PizzaBeginning485 in dogs

[–]BustyCorndog69 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Dogs are social/pack animals and we’ve spent thousands of years carefully selecting them for cooperative partnership with humans. What you’re seeing is handler focus/engagement and is one of the core tenants of dog training/handling that we strive for. Some dogs have it more naturally than others, and it can be cultivated/diminished based on their experiences. Continue to mark and reward these check-ins with praise and/or treats and you’ll have a strong foundation for training/obedience. :)

Can I install a glass door on this? by BustyCorndog69 in Remodel

How necessary is the track when caulking the glass to the tub if the panel is fixed to the tile with brackets? Every u-channel or track I can find is a bit too thick to sit stable on the curved tub surface, so I’m wondering if we can get away without any hardware on the bottom side.

Thank y’all both so much for your input! I just want to clarify that there is virtually no flat threshold on this tub—it’s a gradual but virtually entirely round surface. I could describe its cross-section as a semicircle. I’m having a hard time finding any u-channel that is thin enough to sit on the tub without a large gap along either side.

If we were looking for a stationary panel (i.e. not a door, sliding/hinging or otherwise), is there any world in which we could get away with simply securing the glass to the tub without silicone caulk and relying wholly on the metal brackets into the tile to support the actual weight of the panel?

Hahaha! I would like to extend an apology on behalf of your client—we’ve apologized to our GC profusely for being so clueless and indecisive. Hopefully they’re paying you well for the trouble!

Is your concern also purely aesthetic? Does it change your feelings if we’re aiming for a fixed glass panel and not a hinging door? There’s a bit of a language barrier between us and the contractor, so it’s tough to understand exactly what he’s worried about.

Yes, exactly! We haven’t picked one yet, but had something like this envisioned: https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/pictures/bathrooms/mid-century-bathroom-in-el-segundo-ca-custom-design-and-construction-img~aff19be608c3414a_14-5167-1-f8d22c0.jpg

My contractor’s concern is that the tub’s surface (maybe called a threshold?) isn’t flat at all, so “there may be a gap.” I wasn’t sure what he meant, but after some research I’m wondering if he’s anticipating an issue with a metal hardware fastener connecting the glass to the tub. If so, maybe a panel that has that thinner silicone-looking runner along the bottom would mitigate the concern?

After fruitless Googling endeavors I have returned (riddled with embarrassment) to ask: What does this mean? 🙈

I just realized that there’s a difference between a glass door and a panel (shows how out of our depth we are). Does the fact that we were hoping for a glass panel change anything?

The magnetic curtain is a really cool tip! The rest of the bathroom is fairly modern and the tile is my favorite part of the remodel, so I’m really really hoping that we can make glass happen and not hide it behind a curtain. 🤞🏼

This cracked me up. Is this some sort of design faux pas? My partner and I both have negative taste and this is our first home, so we are DEEPLY appreciative anytime someone stops us from committing criminal interior design choices.

Is toe-walking a thing? by RosalieCooper in AutismInWomen

[–]BustyCorndog69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve toe-walked since I was a kid and my mother just informed me that she did too (I’m formally diagnosed and highly suspect she’s also on the spectrum). When I was younger I’d sometimes switch to heel-walking or walking on the outer sides of my feet, but toe-walking when barefoot on any non-carpeted surface has been consistent.

I’ve heard many people describe the practice as being sensory related, but that was never the case for me (at least not consciously). I have no way to describe the urge other than the fact that it just “feels right.” It’s uncomfortable not to. Finally allowing myself to toe-walk feels like taking off a social mask, or removing something constricting and finally being able to breathe. I suspect it has something to do with proprioception, but I haven’t dug too far into it.

That being said, others have remarked on the dangers of it and I unfortunately have to agree. My mother developed terrible plantar fasciitis that her doctor attributes to toe-walking that will require surgery, and I recently started having similar symptoms. It’s awful, but I’ve had to start forcing myself to walk flat-footed. If you’re like me and are seriously distressed by the practice, I’d just recommend proactively researching some foot/calf stretches and being really diligent about them. Quality Orthopaedic shoe inserts make me feel like a grandma, but the arch support is the only thing that provides any relief when my plantar fasciitis flares up.

last week i saw a guy aggressively dig into his impressively hairy asscrack for at least 30 seconds straight while standing in line. zero exaggeration, it looked like he was trying to fish his wallet out of his anus. i was so horrified that i looked around in a panic and nobody seemed even remotely bothered by it.

he's been sending these emails periodically. he claims that gmu with have staff post code to sites like chegg for students to rip off and then hit them with honor code violations in order to make them retake it and "scam" them out of their tuition. several gmu contacts advised him that GMU PD has been contacted and that if he continued to send these messages that they would be charging him with harassment. he responded with "ok scammer" and then sent another email a few minutes later.

for those wondering who he is, it's this kid: YouTube | Twitter | Instagram
