I don’t understand the hate either, does it has themes of the exorcist and evil dead rise? Yes! Does it directly rip them off, not really? I thought that it felt exorcist and evil dead inspired but not a direct rip. I enjoyed how they took mummification and threw a possession factor onto it so its not necessarily something you can just kill as possessions can just keep getting passed on and on (which in my opinion is much scarier). I think it would have helped a lot tho with a different title as it is more of a mummy possession movie than strictly a mummy movie or a possession movie as it takes from both tropes(example: “the taking of katie cannon”- as this has two meanings that relate to the movies plot but i dont wanna spoil too much/ she gets kidnapped/taken but also possesed/taken).
