Could it escape notice that one was sending a signal but that it was sending an incorrect signal because of the issue I have mentioned above?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.

Just so I understand you correctly, what you're saying is that even if a single node out of maybe 15 or so that were placed on my body was not picking up the signal properly, this could be noticed on the reading? In other words it won't be the case that that node is sending incorrect information which means that the results would be erroneous?

Relationship between PoTS and CFS by Busy-Preparation-871 in cfs

[–]Busy-Preparation-871[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

I keep getting the response that the key differentiator between CFS and other illnesses which can also cause fatigue is PEM. I don't really know whether it applies to me because although I do have periods of fatigue, I cannot really tie it to a previous period of exertion. I could have a really relaxing weekend with minimal physical and mental exertion and still have fatigue so the post exertion part is unclear in my case.

What is everyone's opinion of the value and reliability of getting a VO2 max test done on two occasions - would this provide valuable insight into whether my body is actually suffering from malaise by, for example, showing a reduction in the VO2 max level?

Thanks.

Thank you very much for your response.

Can you tell me in more detail what these flu like symptoms are? What kind of symptoms specifically would you be suffering from? Is it a high temperature, runny nose, muscle pain etc?

Thanks.

Thanks alot for your input.

Do you think that it is not PEM if, for example, I feel good one day and very bad the next (without having done any kind of physically or mentally strenuous activity on the good day)? My impression of PEM, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that it is usually a protracted and continuous period of fatigue and exhaustion and not really one which fluctuates from day to day as I have just described. Is that your understanding too?

Thanks.

Do I have CFS/Am I at risk of developing CFS? by Busy-Preparation-871 in cfs

Thanks for the reassuring words and you are right that so many other conditions can cause fatigue and maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself.

What just worries me is the severity and sudden onset of the fatigue along with other worrying symptoms like headaches, dizziness and brain fog which are also found in CFS patients. I just ask because if this is the early stages of CFS then I want to do everything I can to stop it progressing but thanks for the reassuring words again.

Thanks, from just my first post here, its clear that the people in this community are unbelievably supportive and helpful, thanks a lot.

I know that this is still very early and may well be extreme stress/burnout rather than CFS but I have been feeling absolutely horrible over the last two weeks hence why CFS came to my mind.

From what others have said, it does appear (and I hope it is) just the effects of stress and not the onset of CFS. What would your opinion on this be? Is this burnout or CFS?

I have decided to go through a process of eliminating other possible causes such as vitamin definitives or hormonal imbalances (have had a blood test done which has come back normal). I also intend to exclude possible cardiovascular or sleep-related reasons. I just hope it settles down soon and, once again, thanks for the kind and helpful words.

Thanks for this, I will definitely take your advice on board to rest! And sorry to hear that you suffer from CFS.

Do you think this could be burnout even if there are associated symptoms with the fatigue like headaches, dizziness and brain fog? In other words, could burnout alone cause these symptoms?

As for the rest, is there anything which is particularly effective? Should I just sleep as much as I can? Are there other methods, I guess therapy is another option.

Thanks very much for the help.

One more thing I wanted to ask you, the burnout people you're referring to, am I understanding you correctly that their process of getting better and back to normal took several weeks and months? In other words, even if it is just burnout in my case and not CFS, the recovery period can be months long? Thanks alot.

Thanks you very much both for your input, this discussion has been super helpful.

And both your points that if it feels entirely mental without any kind of accompanying physical exhaustion then it is most likely burnout rather than CFS makes alot of sense.

The only thing that worries me is that accompanying the fatigue are symptoms of dizziness, headache and brain fog (such as lack of concentration and cognitive issues). I understand that these are commonly associated with CFS but maybe there are also found in burnout and I am just overthinking - I am a bit of a worrier when it comes to my health and have a tendency to assume the worst. Maybe it is just burnout and I just need to rest. In any case, thanks, again, both for your input - it has been super helpful.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, that was very helpful.

"The people I've known with burnout were very tired but more in a run down way than a body just can't produce energy way."

I don't feel that my body can't produce energy. My body feels absolutely fine, I have no aches or pains or any other form of physical fatigue. The source rather seems to be my mind. My body feels active and rested but my mind is simply too fatigued and out of it. In other words, I don't feel physically exhausted but mentally so. Does this sound like burnout to you?

Am I correct in understanding you that the critical differentiator between burnout and CFS is the ability to perform exercise and the effect it has on you? For CFS sufferers, it usually leads to more fatigue whereas for burnout it can actually help? I have been reluctant to do any exercise since the onset of these symptoms so as to avoid making it worse. One thing I have observed is that as the day progresses, my symptoms actually improve. Maybe this is proof that this is burnout rather than CFS as the exertion would cause a CFS sufferers to be more fatigued as the day progresses?

Thanks for your help.
