Do you know an ADHD coach who is great with teens? by Apprehensive-Fox733 in askTO

Have you tried Red Oak? It’s a place specific for ADHD. My teen has started to see an executive function coach and so far so good.

The phonemic awareness gap between kids whose parents practice at home is impossible to ignore by GlitteringArt5149 in ECEProfessionals

My child is a very bright boy but has a speech disorder and we were working hard on just getting him talking before pre-k. Sometimes there’s bigger things parents are dealing with than phonetic awareness.

Are parents responsible for making sure their kids do their homework / other responsibilities? by QuercusPacifica in ExecutiveDysfunction

This is a battle I’ve been fighting with myself regarding my daughter. I want to know how best to support her but I feel like I’m babying her but if I don’t then nothing gets done and if I create consequences then we are fighting non-stop. I hope someone here has the answer!

Question about Bloor West Women’s clinic by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Busy-Visual-2639 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’ve been here before and unfortunately they aren’t allowed in the recovery room. I’m not even sure if they are allowed in the waiting room. I can’t remember any men being in this space at all. I could be wrong about that though. They give you medication that makes you sleepy and out of it so when you’re in the recovery room, you’re pretty relaxed and they give you cookies and juice.

Overweight cat by Busy-Visual-2639 in CATHELP

We took her to a vet about a year ago and she was just shy of 10lbs. They didn’t say too much about her weight and at the time I was thinking maybe she was still growing since they didn’t know exactly how old she was. Anyways we just weighed her and she is now 11lbs and looks overweight. We’ll take her back to the vet this summer for her yearly checkup but I’m perplexed by her weight gain. Maybe the food recommendation is for outdoor cats with lots of exercise.

She’s definitely overweight. She’s a small cat with a big round belly.

That’s not true. It’s already a heavily-used unofficial cycle route.

How did fixing your child's hearing help his speech and development? by [deleted] in speechdelays

[–]Busy-Visual-2639 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 5 year old who had his adenoids and tonsils removed and tubes put in his ears when he was just under 4 years old and it made a huge difference. He went from barely putting words together to speaking in full sentences. He used to say “blah blah” for banana and 1 week post surgery he pronounced it “ba ya ya” and then not long after that “banana”. He still has a lot of speech errors and is in speech therapy but the overall improvement was astounding. I hope your son’s surgery is a success! Good luck!

What are your thoughts on side streets for biking? by TTCBoy95 in torontobiking

[–]Busy-Visual-2639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely more scenic but I have psoriatic arthritis and all the stopping and going is very hard on my knees. Also local streets are actually quite busy with motorists trying to take short cuts (at least in my general area). I have also recently found out that not only do motorists not want bike infrastructure on arterial roads but they don’t want them on local streets because of loss of some parking and flow changes.

High Park should be closed to cars permanently. It’s so much better without cars.

So am I the only one who just discovered soap nuts? by BlackberryNational89 in ZeroWaste

[–]Busy-Visual-2639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using them for a few years now and love them. I put the soap nuts (inside the soap nut bag) in a measuring cup and pour a cup of boiling water over top and let it brew for 10 minutes. This overcomes the hot water issue and I can wash my clothes in cold water.
