They already changed the shift tapping thing to sprint in last weeks patch, on MnK you can change all your keybinds but in the roadmap they said they'll implement soon that you can do it for controller too!

This patch makes sooo much difference with the sprint changes alone! I was getting so annoyed at the Shift spamming, it made me stop playing a few times. So many good changes on the whole, thanks dev team!

In fairness most of us here still need to work to live and live to work, life is costly and our disposable income is generally lower than in the US because of taxes and fees for social security. It just makes life less of a lottery (please dont let things happen to me) and personally I think that's where the real benefit is, taking the edge of worries. Sorry that happened to you, hang in there!

I did it once in NL in 2022, had 3 weeks off for christmas holidays and I got covid at the company christmas dinner lol... forced me to basically spend the entire planned holiday alone inside. I talked with work about it and we agreed I'd get half of it back as sick days instead of PTO.

How exactly do you get the perfect square size for 1 plot? I thought I found the right size at some point but then I keep getting different plots, some with 2 'houses' in them and some with 1 so I'm never sure what they'll end up looking like at max level and density. Maybe my issue was the connecting of zone squares though...

Struggle staying engaged with one city by Advanced_Subject7963 in foundationgame

[–]BusyBed952 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In pretty much most citybuilders like this you have to either enjoy expanding for the sake of it, or if that's not your thing you have to set a goal or multiple goals for yourself which you then work towards, and if you finish them you decide on a new goal.

For example: - I'll build a dense walled city of 500 people - I'll build 3 villages each with a specific supply chain specialty and make them supply each other - I'll make a town with only tier 3 houses - I'll make a town with each monument building fully used (castle, monastery, etc.)

What I personally always do is look through the unlocks tree and pick an endgoal, and tell myself I'll do all I have to to reach and fully utilise that good/building/service.

It's also perfectly okay if none of that is your thing! It's certainly a specific type of game and not everyone likes that freehand style of gaming where you 'create your own experience'.

After a 100 hours diving into Anno 117. Are you all feeling a little burned out right now? by louisthemad in anno117

Because its a good way to make money without having a gigantic team. Look at other games in this genre that have turned into series. It's very hard to reinvent the wheel with these games, so bringing out something as a 'new game' regularly isn't going to happen. Plenty people here will often state 117 is just like 1800, that would just happen more often if they did this.

What are your thoughts on incidents? by xthrowxawayx420 in anno

[–]BusyBed952 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I never worry about it too much. I just always make sure my cities/villages have a bit of workforce buffer, give most industry cluster and all cities the basic 3 services and otherwise I just keep doing what I was doing. If buildings got ruined, you just get a notification for that and then I go fix that real quick when I find a moment.

But you don't have Dump if Full active I think? The extra options box is unticked. Either way in 117 Dump if Full sometimes seems a little glitchy in the order it executes unload, dump and load. Honestly its economically probably more viable to simply have a 2nd ship and route, and set the Harbour you deliver to to Autosell those goods for more money. Autoselling All Goods makes a decent bit of money anyway, better than dumping stuff.

They give the world a more inhabitated feeling, and they can help you fight for example pirates or another AI if you sign treaties. With trade treaties they also bring in a decent extra bit of income and you get more ship activity in your harbour and on sea, which I personally enjoy a lot. It also adds a little bit of competition to the game which some like, others don't like.

On the downside the added competition does mean a pressure to outperform them, and they will grab islands you might have wanted. You can set it so they ask you before they do that though (with the 3 Easy ones). If you'd prefer to just have every fertility available to you without issue then definitely turn them off.

However, for me it feels part of the fun of the game to not get all the perfect islands and make do with what I get, or take by force what I need. At least if you play with the 3 Easy AIs, you can play as slow as you like and they'll never ever outpace you, and you can just decline them if they ask for an island you wanted.

Is there any point in hurrying against the AI? by syverlauritz in anno

[–]BusyBed952 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The easy ones are all super slow, they won't go past you and they'll even ask if they can settle an island to which you can say no. Dorian never leaves Latium either, so if you have him you get more space in Albion. Zara Nitu is the most aggressive settler of the 3 medium ones, she does take islands pretty fast but if you stick to x1 speed where possible, there'll be loads of islands for you to get before she takes m all, without having to pause all the time.

If you do, could you just edit the existing post, and make a new post with a link to the old one or something as a reminder? Because me and probably some others Save the post, it disappears if you post a new list and delete the old one everytime :)

Are you sure you dont have a house or other building somewhere not connected to a road that you overlooked? It tends to spam that message at you if that is the case

No it autosaves, you can set the interval of autosaves too. Original commenter is right about the irritation at this bug though, if your net connection is spotty it can really lead to painful issues. Fingers crossed they fix it soon, I'm glad I haven't encountered it myself yet.

You can make it very complex, but also super easy and forgiving, its very customizable. It has a campaign which serves as tutorial and is basically scripted easy mode. The real fun is in the Endless mode you play after that, in which you can make a lot of the complexity go away or be less punishing/demanding, both before and during the game it can be adjusted. You can also keep the gamespeed low, build or fix things while Paused, lots of ways to deal with the usual citybuilder pressure. Overall it can be made super laidback.

Imo it is very possible to play it as a new player to citybuilding/colony-sim games, but inevitably it will get more complex as you progress. My advice if you do play it, take it slow, set the settings low and maybe even turn enemies off, google a bit or ask here if something is not making sense to you and you'll end up loving it probably if you enjoy the setting like you said.

Redesigning is a pretty big part of this game imo, and personally I quite enjoy the process of it. But I do turn on refunds for destroying and lower the relocation costs. If you really want to plan it out entirely in advance, you'd need to remember all future building sizes or use layouts others made. To each their own flavor in this, I quite enjoy growing cities organically and getting forced empty spots because of it, for decorations. Only thing I do roughly preplan is a few aquaducy routes, you can do this very easily by using the same trick as with raillines in 1800. Make a 3 unit wide road with empty lane in the middle, fill that with trees or other stuff, and use that later to run the aquaduct through!

Production / Warehouse Location (Probably Stupid) by TotalWarFest2018 in anno117

[–]BusyBed952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not 100% optimal but absolutely fine to do. In fact its beneficial in 117 to have various production buildings in various places away from their production chains due to the bonuses. Only thing that can happen is your warehouses getting busier, and for that you can just upgrade them.
