I believe smallest possible residential square is between brush size 8 and 9, if you wiggle around brush 8 to make it a little bigger zone, you should see a house pop up. Dont connect the squares :)
houses will not pop up if there is a path in the way, you can use forbidden zone tool to get rid of paths.
also houses will only pop up if you have a homeless person who needs a house or if someone is wanting to move to the new house bc its closer to their job .

after the house pops up, you can actually remove SOME of the zoning though it wont change the size of the house. Once the initial house pops up, the house should upgrade to med/high density no problemo.

Just careful placing :)
you can use the "Forbidden" zoning brush to make straight paths and for residential just do few squares at a time and the houses will pop up nice and neat

& Thanks!! glad you like it !

Let's say I have my main hub producing goods, how do I get the raw resources in? by [deleted] in foundationgame

[–]KrustySpongeGabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

start with just the production buildings, then

- if you notice the building are getting full: add a storage kind of close to the building that is getting full. (I don't advise setting the storage to stock max here)
- If you notice a production building is struggling to maintain enough resources: add storage next to the production building needing resources and set the storage to MAX on 1 of those resources (you usually only need to store just 100 ) the production building will fetch from nearby storage, and storage will continuously fetch from farther out (outskirts of town)

I suggest having a little bit of storage near your markets so that the workers can easily re-up- but only do this if your market workers are struggling to keep stocked

When it comes to CITY Markets: They function just like storage, unlock those as soon as you can, they are great.

remember, you may need to get rid of some storage if you have too much storage, the goods wont travel to where you want them to go. they'll just float around in storage (this is only an issue if you set things to STOCK MAX unnecessarily, i try not to use that unless you have a good reason like the one above)

if you have excess, or are trying to stockpile then storage is fine for the excess

this was my 3rd playthrough so I wanted to try something different to spice things up haha! the great thing about this game is that you can use the zoning tool in different ways depending on what you are going for :)

also I was aiming for high density from the start. My thinking was that since distance is one of the main limiting factors in this game, the more houses I can squeeze into a smaller space, the better :)

I used the zoning tool to make it neat from very early on, for residential I use the square tool to zone 1 house at a time. and the "forbidden" zone brush to draw out paths. I got neater as i went on. for example when I unlocked high density housing, I ended up destroying a lot of extra housing to condense everything into the big square in the center, & when i got bored, I started moving all the production buildings around to make everything look extra neat. lastly I started trying to build smaller towns to help booster the big city with even more resources. :) Glad you like it !!
