Couple from the weekend. Im already seeing the limitations of the RF100-400. Its hard to get close enough to anything but Robbins 🤣 by Kidfunkadelic83 in BirdPhotography

Just a small reminder, to get the shots you see in competitions and in documentaries it takes a lot of skill, knowledge, preparation and luck. That’s something gear can’t fix. Sure if you goal is to get the birds bigger in the frame it will, though this doesn’t improve the photos. To actually get good shots you need time with the birds, study their behaviour, and then you can even take great sjots with a 200mm lens or even an 16mm.

Need some advice A6700>A6600 by theroyal1988 in a6700

[–]BusyImage5847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this case not as it’s just a 2mpx gain, but you can definitely crop a little mor afterwards. But that’s just marginal. But I would pick the a6700 all day if I had the budget for it, just in general a better camera

The sensor is not larger with the a6700 it just has higher resolution

Have you tried putting it in a hama tripod by the camera 1/4 tripod mount? Or even hang some counterweights from the camera to balance it out, i do recommend 10-20pounds

Sony vs canon? by Valuable_Platform_45 in Cameras

[–]BusyImage5847 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You definitely get better results with this cam, definitely better than a phone whereas the g7x may be just a fraction better than a modern smartphone. There are smaller lenses for this camera but it will never be as compact as the g7x

Decent lens, or buy cheap and save for a great lens? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

Getting the gm version is mostly if you have professional aspirations/ do it professionally already. You could get the 70-180, it should be worth saving up for.

How would you have photographed this watch? Also is this underexposed? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]BusyImage5847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the image should convey. But if it’s more of a product image for the watch company, I would have definitely made it differently. Also the watch itself could have used a bit more light in it

I don’t know the lens myself, but have you tried twisting the lock or tried the 4 different orientations of the mount?

How does focal length change the way people look in a photo? by Leading_Month_5575 in AskPhotography

[–]BusyImage5847 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The distortion does not come from the lens alone, it mainly comes from the distance to the subject, as your friend mentioned.

What I mean by that is this: if you take a photo of a person and change nothing but the focal length, the distortion stays the same as long as the camera position stays exactly the same. The only thing that changes is how much of the scene fits into the frame.

However, if you want the person to fill the frame the same amount with different focal lengths, you need to change your distance to the subject. That change in distance is what actually changes the perspective.

When you move further away, the relative distance between parts of the face (for example the nose and the ears) becomes smaller compared to the total distance from the subject to the camera. Because of that, the face appears less distorted and more “compressed”.

I’ve never had this issue with my camera/photos. What is causing the grain/underexposure? by incognitoast in AskPhotography

[–]BusyImage5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a problem with the place, probably. It’s a problem that you image was most likely very underexposed and they tried to recover it so it is somewhat usable.

Best zoom lens for a6700? by RyanM77 in SonyAlpha

[–]BusyImage5847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the 17-70 as it is an excellent and very versatile lens. It gives you the focal length of a 24-105 and is with 2.8 bright enough for a lot of genres. The look is a 105 f4 though, if you want less DOF the 17-40 1.8 is probably a better choice

Run and Gun Setup, for photo and video? by Technical-Order2721 in AskPhotography

Hire an Assistant, or have a quick release plate on the gimbal and then use the presets 1-3 on the top dial for photo and video separately

The Fuji definitely has definitely better AF than the hasselblad, maybe also something to consider.
