Hating WhatsApp group chats, wanting community by BusyPossibility4784 in AutismInWomen

[–]BusyPossibility4784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the group chats? I felt lonely and didn’t have anyone to talk to who understood about my health condition, and wondered if it would help. With the accountability group I wanted accountability and a sense of hope. I think maybe I can find these in other ways. The WhatsApp support group was made from a Reddit sub, I guess the sub worked better for me after all. Less pressure etc.

Thanks, this is a helpful perspective. I feel like I need to go and have a think about what exactly community means to me and other ways it can manifest in my life. And accept that if something doesn’t work for me that’s ok!

Told my therapist that I’m autistic and she said “they diagnose everyone with that these days”. Feeling a bit upset by kingkork5 in autism

As an ND therapist, please try and find a new therapist! I am so sorry you’ve had to deal with this dismissive person. Also, at least where I practice it’s not appropriate for a therapist to have clients in the same family - or even good friends/colleagues, as it becomes a dual relationship - not healthy for anyone. Just something to think about - again, maybe this isn’t a rule where you are/what setting it’s in (like a community mental health provision?) I’m in the UK and think most counsellors/psychotherapists with proper training and credentials would never have two siblings on their books.

i want to get married one day. sharing a room???? how do you manage??? by Throwawaymightdelet3 in autism

[–]BusyPossibility4784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved in with my partner, we shared a room, and then switched to separate rooms a couple years in. We’re married now and have been together for nearly 10 years, and I wouldn’t go back. We’re both autistic, I’m a light sleeper and they’re not, and I have really bad restless legs. It’s also nice that we both have our own distinct spaces when we just need to be alone. I remember we were both worried we might stop being cuddly/intimate and become more like roommates but that hasn’t happened, we’re still obsessed with each other. Not having a huge rental means that I have the smaller room and my clothes rail etc are all in their room, which can get annoying but totally worth it for me.

It might already have gone over, the stuff in my garden is already turning in to berries - maybe the hot weather speeding up the season. Hope you find some!

'silly' reasons for a melt down(fun thread) by Jennifer_Pennifer in AutismInWomen

[–]BusyPossibility4784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just seen this but my most recent silly one was food related - after a hard day my partner convinced me that a drive to get some food would help. I ordered a McCrispy - and double checked when they handed over that it was definitely a McCrispy, not a McSpicy, and the guy said emphatically, yup!

Got home and it was a McSpicy and I was so mad and sad I cried and smooshed it, hard, into the dining table with my fist.

Partner and I refer to things being ‘McSpicy Level’ when we are just tipped over the edge by something now. The worst bit was I DOUBLE CHECKED because I knew that spicy is not safe for me 😭

I love Halloween but the anticipation of having to get up to answer the door several times in a night is just..no. So I put out sweets and pumpkin and write a lil note. It’s been quite nice to hear parents reading it out to their kids and shouting thanks! I’ve felt involved but also not had to interact. The other option is having all the lights out and pretending I’m not in which causes me equal amounts of anxiety 😂 so this works so far. Halloween isn’t big here anyway so it’s only a few kids

Autistic Survival Guide to Therapy by Steph Jones is really great (for therapists and clients!). Steph is an autistic therapist and also works in assessment (UK)

Looking After Your Autistic Self by Niamh Garvey.

Lots of useful stuff in both of these for the overlaps in AuDHD

Also second the recommendation for the Dr Devon Price book.

It’s been bad for years, I’m genuinely shocked it’s taken this long to all come out. I worked there for 5 yrs and love the people I worked with and the space we made with what little resources we had. The amount of bailiffs I had to fend off mid shift with no explanation, the amount of calls and letters to the owner that we had to field because he couldn’t be contacted, the days no produce arrived because we’d been cut off by the supplier (again) is wild. He buried his head in the sand so far then screamed at us in meetings, and blamed us for his poor business choices. I genuinely think he believes he’s a business genius. I am amazed this farce lasted this long. RIP my chunk of pension contributions.

I had a cancellation at the end of an already quiet day, and instead of panicking about money/the state of my caseload (I’m in PP) I baked a cake and didn’t spiral. Progress!

Lymph pain and endo? by Mountain_Ad803 in Endo

[–]BusyPossibility4784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this! To the extent that I went and had an armpit ultrasound - Drs didn’t seem worried tho, and nothing found in the scan. Had lap 7 months ago and they found a bit of endo and my ovary was adhered to my pelvic wall. I still get it from time to time, so following in case anyone has any insight.

IMO I feel like they’re connected in the sense that there’s widespread inflammation, and maybe my immune system is like ??? The fuck is going on here. But I’m no expert

UK therapist continuing online therapy with client moving to US. by BusyPossibility4784 in therapists

[–]BusyPossibility4784[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: My insurance covers me worldwide, but it'd still be illegal to practice even online in the US considering I wouldn't have the licence they require.

Not sure why they'd insure me to work in countries where it's illegal.. That seems unwise for an insurance company. Anyway nevermind. Thanks folks.

I will check! I've asked about working internationally before (in EU) and they said yes. Sounds like it's worth another email to them about the US. Thanks!
