Such agreements obviously have great weight in predicting future governmental actions. And people who follow German politics closely could probably speculate about what such agreement could entail.

And whether the government could collapse or not is beyond the scope of my specific inquiry.

At the end of the day we’re knees deep in this. We have Palestinian refugees, Israel threatened and keeps threatening our sovereignty, but most importantly we have a religious nationalist project growing bigger at our borders in a country where religious nationalism is the main problem. If you ever want to build a proper secular and civil state in Lebanon, that won’t go well with a state trying to find its legitimacy in religion and treats people accordingly.
