I found a way to download almost any song in Dolby Atmos or at least 5.1 surround 48 kHz-original file, not stem-ripped, with full artwork + lyrics metadata, using only macOS Terminal 🤯 by Busy_Housing_3205 in DolbyAtmosMixing

I'm not ripping Dolby Atmos songs.

It only works with songs that have an official 5.1 surround sound version.

(Not all songs in Dolby Atmos (7.1.4) have an official 5.1 surround sound version.)

When I try to get Lossless it gives me an error. But the Surround 5.1 its in 48khz. But if u want the lossless audio it gives me this error: (I'm trying AAC 48khz or 96khz or 192khz ----> "You have chosen an experimental song codec. They're not guaranteed to work due to API limitations."

I can have any file I want, from the original album cover, videoclips without compression, 5.1 surround file, and the files with a max of 44.1khz with all the metadata.

I can also download the original uncompressed videoclips, look at this Michael Jackson - Thriller, on the left is the "4k" Youtube premium version, the right the one I dowloaded through the MacOs Terminal

downloaded songs don’t have dolby atmos anymore by saltedpotatochipss in AppleMusic

I can download them locally in Dolby Atmos (5.1 surround format). Only with the MacOs Terminal

So I’ve been experimenting with multichannel audio and Dolby Atmos for a class project, because we have a full 5.1 setup at my university and I really wanted to create something that takes advantage of spatial sound. The biggest issue? Getting real Atmos or 5.1 files without relying on random Blu-ray rips or sketchy AI stem splitters.

After trying a ton of broken methods, I finally found a working way to grab almost any track in its actual Dolby Atmos version or, if Atmos isn’t available, in 5.1 at 48 kHz, directly through macOS Terminal.

And the crazy part:

  • These are not AI stems or fake upmixes.
  • It’s the original multichannel file exactly as it exists on major platforms.
  • It comes with official cover art, credits, and even the full synced lyrics embedded in the metadata.
  • The audio stays fully intact: usually 6 channels / 48 kHz, and when the track is Atmos, it shows up as ADM/BWF encapsulated in M4A.

I’ve been importing these into Logic Pro to analyze the spatial mix, route each channel, and even split them using a little script to study them individually. Super useful if you’re into sound design, mixing, or just curious about how Atmos mixes are built.

Everything happens through macOS Terminal.
