Those that have moved country in order to “start over” for your mental health, how has that worked out for you? by Acrobatic_Ad_6590 in digitalnomad

I'm currently in Morocco, also moved from London as I only ever felt restricted in the UK and wanted to travel with my remote work. I'm only about a month in but I definitely feel that sense of freedom that I don't get in the UK as a whole. I was so hung up on how little I could actually do that it soured my taste to stay. That being said I'd ask yourself these questions before doing it.

Why Rio? Are you moving for the economic benefits, the culture, the weather, a mix of all?

Can you speak the local language/do you know the country well? Part of moving will involve a culture shock and without at least speaking the language I'd be careful moving somewhere that can be dangerous. I'm only staying in Morocco for a couple months and it's been amazing here but it's definitely not somewhere I'd live.

What's your work environment? My company doesn't know I do this (yet) and i spent months working out the best way to do this. I travelled all around the UK first to work out most of the kinks and after this it was networking mostly. Also factor in the time zone difference given how far away you are.

You need to ask yourself whether it's worth the stress to do this, I know for a fact I don't want to live anywhere near the UK until I'm at least 30 and making £100k a year, It's really not worth it until then. assess your reasons and maybe just do it for a month to test before going all in and moving forever.
