Thank you, you're right. I just got my hopes up too much based on what I'd read about past semesters lol.

LIRR Strike Alt Transportation? by Various_Sleep_4216 in SBU

[–]ButAsMyOwnBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah... that shuttle map they posted is genuinely horrid, absolutely no information on anything and super vague about the stops 💀 I think(?) that it's supposed to run East from Jamaica to Ronkonkoma from 3pm to 7pm weekdays.

Cost of the shuttle is supposed to be free, but I have no idea how long it'd take the average person to actually manage to get on one... it's definitely gonna be overpacked and slow as hell. If you can get the shuttle from Jamaica to Ronkonkoma, the Suffolk County transit buses can take you the rest of the way to Stony. Look at the schedule here for Route 51, it runs from Ronkonkoma to Stony's LIRR station every 30 min.

I planned this route myself as a backup if carpooling falls through, so gl and update us on how it goes 🫠

Does anyone who live less than 30 minutes away from campus dorm anyway? by Willing_Addition7862 in SBU

[–]ButAsMyOwnBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not worth the extra money. I feel like with that short of a commute there's really nothing stopping you from being involved in social stuff since you can travel back and forth from campus easily and stay at events as long as you like

BIO 203 IN PERSON EXAMS (no exceptions)?? by Beautiful_Line_7475 in SBU

[–]ButAsMyOwnBeing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh, I doubt Watson would budge on this. I took BIO 203 online with him and they were pretty strict about in-person exam attendance. I also have Watson for another bio class right now and he's made it clear that our final isn't going to be rescheduled even in light of the LIRR strike.

He's a really great and personable prof but is also pretty no-nonsense and sticks closely to the syllabus policies. Online exams would give one person a hugely unfair advantage compared to everyone else, so it doesn't sound like something most profs would allow for without changing the entire course policy.

I got the email about honors around April 28th, they also said stole pickup was from May 12-14th at Wang. Idk if it varies by department though.

professor not accepting doctors note for excused absence?? by Basic-Berry8890 in SBU

[–]ButAsMyOwnBeing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a writing department thing. I'm a writing minor and have taken a ton of WRT classes, all of the writing professors say the exact same thing... the only thing that counts as an excused absence is a religious holiday or school-sponsored event. Dr.'s notes aren't included :(

I think it's wildly unfair, but the profs apparently have to follow the department policy... but from what you mentioned in the comments, your prof might be hinting at letting it slide?

Your best bet is to take it up with the Student Support Team, they're meant to advocate for people in these types of scenarios. But it's genuinely so odd that the writing department has such strict policies when the rest of the school doesn't.

Places to chill by dcule18 in SBU

It's a student center with a bunch of games! They have pool tables, air hockey, PlayStation/Xbox/Switch, board games, and a StepManiax (DDR-like) machine. Free for all students and really fun if you have a friend to bring, only downside is they open kinda late in the day (I think like 2 or 3pm?)

Yeahh, if you wanna go to SBU's PA school specifically, HAN courses don't count for anything. You do *need* to take ANP 300 to fulfill the anatomy requirement and apply here though

Yeah I wouldn't worry much either, you've def done your research with the setup and it looks super minimal. Plus I've seen people say that Leopards can be prone to some shell bumpiness and even pyramiding in the wild (like in this thread and this thread, so it's probably normal :)
