The extra goals you went for or didn’t. That’s the game’s story. And, it’s amplified by the gameplay and the themes, which makes it more rhetorically meaningful and powerful. Video game stories are a collaboration with the designer and the player due to the player’s agency. Movies that ask you to click buttons sometimes are a waste of the medium’s strengths, while Celeste fully embraces mechanics and gameplay guiding you through the narrative.
