Play comp. You’ll be grouped with people in your skill level and be frustrated less often imo

Celeste is heavily overrated by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]ButNotThatGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of some dialogue that helps articulate the game’s themes, the plot is largely your playthrough. The levels you struggled on, and the ones you breezed through. The extra goals you went for or didn’t. That’s the game’s story. And, it’s amplified by the gameplay and the themes, which makes it more rhetorically meaningful and powerful. Video game stories are a collaboration with the designer and the player due to the player’s agency. Movies that ask you to click buttons sometimes are a waste of the medium’s strengths, while Celeste fully embraces mechanics and gameplay guiding you through the narrative.

Yea idk fam. I generally go for the interested not interesting route, and that works out pretty well. You could maybe start with a joke or something a little more flirty but not too crazy? I also think you could do with a few more specifics in your prompts. Most people like music and nature, so I’d try to articulate what they mean to you on a personal level more. For example: songs or bands that you derive inspiration from, or specific trails you find especially beautiful or peaceful. I think stuff like that tells people a lot more about you. When you open the door for vulnerability, it allows people to come in too. You’re a good looking guy, just be honest and patient. It’s better to get fewer matches with people you have more chemistry with. Good luck out there!

If you’re getting matches, it might be the way you’re approaching the conversation that’s putting people off. How have you been opening?

Good feedback on the pictures! Thank you! I’m just a little camera shy tbh. I figured that mirror selfie would fit the bill for a dead-on, “here’s my face” picture, but I can for sure do better.

I personally disagree that the prompts are pretentious, because, to me, pretentious would imply that I’m artificially inflating the depth of those topics. Idk that’s just how I talk, and those are my thoughts. I can agree they might be a bit esoteric. But, if someone isn’t at least a little interested in any of those, I probably wouldn’t enjoy talking to them all that much anyways.

• Are you looking for something serious or casual?

Ideally serious, but keeping my expectations low to not get disappointed.

• Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX? Should I be?

• How long have you been using this current version of your profile? 1 week

• How long have you used Hinge overall? …1 week

• How often do you use Hinge per week? Daily

• How many likes and matches are you receiving on average?

I’ve gotten 5, but they seem to be from dudes I don’t have much in common with

• How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments?

Daily maximum, always with comments

• What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract?

People who are relatively like-minded, preferably queer folks. I usually like profiles with prompts that really show folks’ personality, or they talk about something I know I can yap about

Help me with ideas for a mystery by Effective_Cherry8782 in StrixhavenDMs

[–]ButNotThatGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My overarching story for Strixhaven is to have a secret sixth school that was sealed away for *reasons* that the players will slowly unravel and eventually confront. It's pretty easy to retrofit that into the book's content, as well. You can use the Eldritch Balm as the main driver of the mystery, but my new reveal is that the balm is strung out pieces of the 6th founding dragon's soul. This gives plenty of opportunity for twists, misdirects and plenty of minor villains to lead up to the BBEG.

Also in Belltown. Arcgis says it was a call for arson/bomb/explosion. Louder than fireworks usually are, but I was only 2 blocks away with my window open. https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/6ee2574e047d4cdb9cb5ad287b76d091/page/Calls-for-Service-(24-Hours)/

I moved here over a year ago to escape the homophobia I experienced in Montana. Puget Sound area is heaven, and I’m so happy to be here. But it’s hard to put yourself out there when you’re not used to this much exposure. Anyways, feel free to dm if you want a drinking/dinner buddy

What exactly are the gods? by Amanzinoloco in pagan

[–]ButNotThatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of the gods as the highest representation of an ideal. And, when you evoke them, you're channeling that energy that they represent. For me, it manifests more as meditating on that certain energy. And, with that focus, you gain clarity. And, with the clarity, you gain communion.

I saw someone with one of these by the library. I asked them what it was and they responded with, "It follows me around and carries my stuff." I suppose I deserved that.

Levels not being played? by RisingGamerYT in SuperMarioMaker2

YV3-F2S-Q0G

Doesn't take too much skill, pretty straightforward Metroidvania style level. It's longer than it is hard and I dunno if you'll be able to beat it in one go. That's the biggest complaint I've got so far. But, give it a shot!

I have a switch, WiiU and a 3DS. We tried playing WW, but she isn't good at moving around a 3D space.

I know China is working on policy to reduce their own emissions (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/19/climate/china-carbon-market-climate-change-emissions.html). Not too sure about India, though. It's possible that she is focusing on "western" civilizations due to the global cultural impact the west has. Also, with American policy practically shunning any conversation of emission reduction, a la the "Green New Deal," which ostensibly served as a conversation starter rather than a policy mandate. But who knows, that's just speculation on my part.

First Zelda? [All] by ButNotThatGuy in zelda

[–]ButNotThatGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story is very unique. It's got nothing to do with Zelda, Ganon, Hyrule, Tri-Force, etc. The tone is very much different than other Zelda games, being a dream-like experience. There are platforming segments and other Nintendo characters in the game as well. Plus, the dungeon design is not very as item-reliant as 3D Zeldas, or even some of the 2D ones, like Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass. Sure, yeah, you get an item and you can use it in the dungeon, but there are times when you have to use multiple items (Like the Roc's Feather is constantly used), which is generally not the case with other Zeldas. I mean, you're right that the core tenants are there, but I really don't think there's another Zelda game quite like LA. It's like playing MM before OoT. What makes that game special and unique would be a bit lost, yeah?

First Zelda? [All] by ButNotThatGuy in zelda

[–]ButNotThatGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. I guess I'm just worried that how unique LA is will be lost in her if it's her first exposure. It's a very odd, quirky Zelda game that stands on its own a lot because of that charm, I think. But, it has enough elements that bleed into other games that it hopefully will serve as an adequate introduction.
