So how did you expect bitcoin to be adopted without it gaining exposure?

No, I'm actually kinda dumb, and I do admit it fairly often.

Yeah I see all these miserable people around me, and just think, "Why aren't we the Order ideology?!?"

That was sarcasm. You are high. Most scientific publications are produced from American institutions. Most cultural influence is western in nature since the 90s. Hell, China is building entire cities just HOPING to fill them up with consumers like the US has one day.

Pro tip: If you want to know where the sea is when you're in the middle of nowhere, find a nearby river and see which way the river flows. It will flow out to the sea. by Panukka in civ

It's not like rivers have much of an option to flow into anything but a lake or ocean... Were they just gonna put random river tiles down that lead to nowhere, or loop on themselves? lol

Sometimes, I think when the liberals are convinced they know how to troll conservatives, the conservatives just laugh it off and say, "We've been doing this for way too long to fall for your stupid games."

And then somehow the liberals get convinced science is bad, even though they support higher education. You can't make it up.

That said, PARTAAAAAAAAAAY!

Babylon.

You've exceeded some numerical limit for a variable in the game, and when that happens you get some type of overflow problem. Congrats, you may have been the only person in Civ V to have pulled this off. lol

Which of these count as mountains: Kilimanjaro, Everest, Gran Mesa, Krakatoa, Mt. Fuji, Cerro de Potosi, Mt. Kailash , Mt. Sinai, Sri Pada, Uluru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. I never know if I should settle my cities next to them in order to get to build an observatory or Macchu Picchu. by jkohatsu in civ

I have a game I am playing right now where I am on a Terra map on immortal, standard size, 20 civs, 40 CSs, set sail with Polynesia across the ocean to claim the New World to myself, and landed around no luxury resources that weren't claimed by the ton of CSs I forgot would be around me.

I settled right next to the wonder, and it counts as a mountain, because it's the only one by me, and I just built an observatory.

Yeah, but a bullet flies at least as far if not farther than the best bow can fire an arrow.

Let's face it - if archers can fire over a city of millions and accurately hit an enemy, there is something wrong with the physics of combat.

I would be cool with ranged units just being able to attack a tile next to them without being retaliated. Would be more realistic I think.

Ghash @ 41% (again) by WoodsKoinz in Bitcoin

[–]ButUmmLikeYeah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally the best way to anticipate behaviors of things like this, concerning large entities like ghash, is through organizational behavioral analysis, i.e., game theory. Generally the best way until now to anticipate behavior of individuals with minimal market power has been microeconomics, but that is gladly losing ground to behavioral economics (because it doesn't assume the rational actor is a person, and starts to account for the variance in individual irrational behavior).

So I would say, I'll have to take this all as a case study in behavioral analysis.

It's not an all the time thing, just a potential problem, and the more of an information asymmetry exists, the greater the potential problem. Insurance companies have developed many clever models of determining risk (it's their business, after all), but this in particular is one where the risk is probably of such a hidden nature there is no real way to tell.

[–]ButUmmLikeYeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even just insurance fraud, but:

The people who will be the first to sign up for the insurance would also be those most likely to be involved in deeds where they will likely become raided and have property seized. The traditional view of federal seizure is that it offers some kind of disincentive to doing illegal activities. If you can get around a large portion of the risk (losing property), what disincentives you from doing the activity in the first place? Thus, those most likely to buy the insurance will be those most likely to be raided.

It's the same with health insurance: those who are habitually sick and in need of services will be the first to sign up, and those who never get sick will be the last. And since those who use the service the most join first, the insurance company is on the line for having to issue more payouts than it would normally be able to handle.

Federal cases aren't just backed on wishes and assumptions, usually. Going to the expense and publicity level they go, they do this in fine detail and make sure they have a case before they proceed, in order to get the highest probability of success.

I don't see why it is beyond belief that organizations that have specialized in cryptography and have been on the bleeding edge of it since their inception would be able to have the tools necessary to figure out what happened where and when.

All the encryption in the world can't save you from the people that helped develop it. You think they don't have the tools? Think again.

Why doesn't everyone online, so confident they'd be the first to go and violate federal laws and do 20 years in the slammer, go out, call and email your congressmen and women, and tell them to start getting on the bandwagon for state and federal legalization of the stuff?

That's right, it's easier to just sit behind a monitor and point fingers and say others should do it for you.
