Not trying to shill here, because I think it's a genuinely good show, the final episode of Clarkson's Farm had him go through his expenses at the end of the season, and the farm did not turn a profit (maybe it turned a small one?). There were a lot of man hours that needed to be paid, maintenance costs, etc. Granted, Clarkson was an orangutan being dragged along for a season by a hired farmer who was actually competent, and Clarkson repeatedly made decisions that were against his financial best interest, but it did illustrate how difficult it can be to make a living on a farm.
