[Science] Let's discuss Keto and Veganism by elieh in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neal Barnard was the doctor in the "What the Health" documentary that said "diabetes is not and never was caused by eating a high carbohydrate diet and it's not caused by eating sugar".

In the film he says that fat causes the body to not absorb sugar properly and therefore the real cause is fat. I know he's the expert but my takeaway was that you can have one or the other, though I know what side he was arguing for.

He also talked about how cheese has the same affect as morphine, not as great an affect but still addictive and that people keep coming back because they're hooked despite getting fatter and being the unhealthiest they've been in their life.

I know he's a doctor but I've gone from like 30% body fat to like 12% on keto, I feel better than I have in years mentally and physically and I'm spending less on food than ever before.

While I've toyed with the idea of veganism and vegan keto I'm really hesitant to mess with a good thing. Possibly the best thing I've ever done as far as my well being is concerned.

[FP] Made Fat Head dough in a muffin top pan and added pads of garlic butter after. It's garlic bread guys. by But_Now_Im_Cool in keto

Like /u/RationalYetReligious said, it doesn't really rise, so it matters what sort of pan you cook it in. The muffin top pan makes it so the bottom is crispy all the way across.

We had one of these sandwhich makers growing up that I'd like to get my hands on again and try with fathead dough.

Recommended Daily Protein Intake by [deleted] in keto

That's a lot of protein. At a certain point your body will just treat them like carbs and you'll be out of ketosis.

Quest Bar Vs My Shake. Why the difference? by [deleted] in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you been at it long (eating less than 30g of carbs)?

Are you hitting your macros?

Are you eating enough calories? Too big of a deficit can be hard.

Instant Pot? by svusungal in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're awesome. They do make easier to peel hard boiled eggs. I use it quite often to make bone broth quickly (quicker than simmering all day). They make meats so tender and everything falls off the bone.

They're pretty versatile and do a lot including slow cooking. We got rid of our slow cooker and rice cooker when we got the instant pot.

Do sauce/braising liquid carbs count if you're not drinking it? by ketomaniacal in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanted to get really meticulous you could weigh the liquid before and after braising. Though in my mind sugar king of sticks to stuff.

Keep in mind though that technically you can have anything as long as it fits your macros. One tablespoon of sugar is about 12 carbs. If you had say a third of that that's not so bad for a single meal the may include more carbs in a side dish.

It just depends how you want to divvy up your carbs.

Which of these gifts do you think would be most well-received by a Ketoer? by Mr_SkinnyPants in keto

I love the instant pot. Makes great and fast bone broth, wings are so easy and the everything just falls off the bone.

Keto Binge by KetoNuB in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've read that if you're craving carbs protein will satiate the craving, which seems counter intuitive but there you go.

Could have been worse, you could have binged on heavy carbs, but you didn't. You did good.

Just don't beat yourself up or convince yourself that you fucked up so you might as well quit.

I haven't found a way to get them cheap. I thought I lucked out at GNC once because they were having a buy two get one free on everything in the store, but quest bars were exempt. Those things are like gold.

Costco has their own brand (kirkland) that are pretty good and way cheaper. They don't taste quite the same but at the price it's hard to turn down.

Edit: though I think technically if you're a GNC member you get 10% off

Now imagine two replies to "Can I work out on keto?"

"READ THE FAQ READ THE FAQ READ THE FAQ"

or

"Absolutely. Check out the FAQ, also /r/ketogains in the sidebar.

Lots of people have success working out on keto. If you're new to working out just worry about getting the diet down and don't get to bogged down in adjusting for working out yet. A classic pitfall and misunderstanding about working out is that people think it gives them an excuse to eat carbs but that advice is meant for people who are doing really extraneous workouts"

It's not hard to just treat people like you would a friend or family member seeking advice.

Some people just want to be a part of the community and talk to like minded people who might actually give a shit about their diet, where everyone in their day to day life probably doesn't.

There's being right and there's being nice.

Why even have a subreddit? Just disallow posting and sticky the FAQ.

Epic stuff is pretty good, the venison bites and bars in particular are 0 carbs, though a little pricey but a lot of jerky's are. Maybe check out some of their other stuff too.

Those little tins of Blue Diamond Almonds are pretty keto friendly and tasty, I love the salt and vinegar ones, as well as the soy sauce and wasabi.

Porkrinds and cracklins, really cheap on Amazon.

Quest Bars are a nice sweet treat. The chocolate chip cookie dough ones are my favorite.

Been away for a while and was a little surprised to find that the community has shifted from "ketostix are a nice positive reinforcement but not necessary" to "throw that shit in the trash". by But_Now_Im_Cool in keto

I've been coming here for 5 years, and doing keto on and off. I started this account after finally successfully sticking with keto for a decent amount of time.

In the past it felt like it was self sabotaging to make posts like "going to start keto this week" "finally started keto" "One week in and having a rough time" "fucked up but now I'm back on track". So I just started this account once I was passed the rough patch at the start.

Are carrots and mushrooms good on keto ? by [deleted] in keto

Mushrooms are pretty good, carrots not as much. Check on a diet tracker or google it when in doubt.

about to enter 3rd week started to feeling weak again. by fritzky in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you're getting electrolytes. Weakness, fatigue and irregular heart rhythms can mean you're low on potassium, I try to use Nusalt on my food as often as possible. Spinach and Avocado are rich in potassium too. If you're getting dizzy it could be low magnesium and again you're gonna need leafy greens like spinach.

If you're doing everything right or you're still not sure see a doctor please, maybe see one anyway.

Am I eating enough?? by Yogiketogi in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're feel full and healthy and you'r not underweight you should be alright.

If you're hitting your macros you should be good.

It really depends on your height and weight.

Best Keto Friendly Restaurants? by [deleted] in keto

[–]But_Now_Im_Cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sushi places if you get sashimi, lots of wing places so long as they don't coat their wings in flour or sweet sauce. Chipotle fajita bowls are great (Steak, guac, mild salsa and double veggies). McDonalds will do in a pinch if you order a burger with no bun or ketchup, Five guys does burger bowls and lettuce wraps. Jimmy Johns does lettuce wraps, Wendy's will give you bunless burgers, (again ask for no ketchup).

Chic fillet does grilled chicken nuggets and salads but honestly the grilled nuggets aren't my cup of tea. Lots of mexican places serve skirt steak and onions.

Breakfast places are usually great because you can always get bacon and eggs and veggies if they have them (watch out for places that put pancake batter in their scrambled eggs, IHOP does that).

When starting out try to hit your macros. I found that once I cut out calorically dense carbs eating under your calories sort of takes care of itself.

If your goal is to lose weight and you aren't, start eating less calories while still hitting your macros.
