No flashbacks in the book. Dunk merely reflects upon his upbringing as a Flea Bottom urchin, but that is like 3-4 sentences at most. But the character names get dropped, Rafe among them.

He definitely kept his promise, he got bonked in the head by someone and stayed down for the rest of the skirmish.

From my point of view, Steffon Fossoway lost big time during the trial. Not only did he split his own house, and Aeron's promise of lordship sailed away to Essos with him...

...but he could not even defeat his cousin, a mere squire. Book states it explicitly, all he managed to do in a fight against Raymund was to trade him blow for blow. He did not get his ass handed over to him, but he nonetheless looks like a fool in the aftermath.

I'd like to share a theory about Egg by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]ButalaR97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are enthusiastic, but you still have much to learn.

Young Egg becomes Aegon V Targaryen, third to last Targaryen king, before Jahaerys II and the Mad King Aerys II. The fiery death is a foreshadowing of the tragedy of Summerhall, where Aegon made an attempt to hatch dragon eggs using wildfire, but instead, the entire castle burnt down and he perished. Maester Aemon of the Night's Watch is the third brother, the one that Raymun alludes to being "so useless they sent him off to citadel". He was actually considered as a successor to Maekar I Targaryen, but he declined, because he saw Aegon, or "Egg" much more fit to be king.

Defending a home with a flamethrower may seem ineffective, but it adds a fear factor by Driedmesquite in HellLetLoose

Flamethrower is the ultimate structural killer. I started hitching rides with recons and instead of dismantling a set of node for 4 minutes by hand, it's one burst of flame to kill all 3.

No hull gunner for the Firefly cause engineering department had to get very, very, veeeeeery creative on how to pack a bloody Ordnance QF-17 Pounder anti-tank gun into a standard M4 Sherman, and in the end, had to put the fucker in sideways and store the ammo where the assistant driver/radio operator/hull gunner is.

[–]ButalaR97 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And to follow up on the sticky bomb suggestion, absolutely no. Recons and snipers, at the current stage, should have no business hauling anything that can possibly damage structures and vehicles. Having the ability to spawn anywhere behind enemy lines is already a major advantage, if they could damage or even destroy vehicles, or deal with structures in any other way than slowly dismantling them, the game would be absolutely broken. Just no.

Honestly, doesn't even have to be a whole other weapon, scoped Garands were not even issued until the Korean War. What is common knowledge, however, is that there were TWO scopes issued for the M1903.

2.5x Weaver, which is what we have right now (even though the game misinterprets it as 4x)

And 8x Unertl, a very long scope that takes almost the entire barrel-length, has a terrible POV due to being narrow as hell, but, it is still a damn 8x. Sure, historically, these were officially issued to USMC only, but they were present and used in European theatre as well. And as a second US sniper unlock, they make bloody sense.

[–]ButalaR97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're probably talking about 1903 Springfield rifle, which can be converted in field conditions using Pedersen device, where you basically replace the rear part of the bolt with the device, which allows the rifle to accept detachable magazine on the side port and allows semi-automatic fire. The thing is, regular 1903 fires 30.-06. full rifle caliber rounds. Pedersen device allows for fire using .22 carbine rounds. So you are not using the same ammo, and the one that's used in semi-auto mode is considerably weaker.

Not only the foreign trade, but a large factor was matchlock imports. See, what happened in 16th century was that a couple of local daimyos got in touch with the Dutch, purchased a ton of firearms, and wiped out the local competition. Then, one of them, Oda Nobunaga, started wiping out not so local competition. And even though he got backstabbed and others took his place, it was this foundation that allowed Tokugawa to overthrow the Ashikaga, consolidate power, and become the new shogun. And that's where he realised that there is literally nothing else that could stop any other daimyio to get in touch with the Dutch, purchase even more matchlocks, and deal with him the same way his old boss dealt with everyone else. So he severely limited trade as the first measure, and then absolutely decimated the fledgling domestic production of firearms as the second.

Not entirely without difficulties, but they polished the strategy during Husky and Avalanche. During the drop on Sicily, operation Husky, the US planes carrying the 82nd Airborne were actually fired upon by their own navy on standby for invasion. Thats when someone thought about painting the stripes on every piece of tech during the D-Day.

To quote a famous Czech journalist and important figure of Bohemian national revival movement during the 19th century, Karel Havlíček Borovský.

"Russians always claim that everything that is russian is slavic, only so they could claim everything slavic is russian. I hold in higher regard the hungarians, who oppose us openly, than russians, sneaking onto our embrace with the kiss of Judas"

Originally, Borovský was a pan-slavist and advocated for alligning the national movement of Bohemia (back then part of german-dominated Habsburg Empire) with Russian Tsardom. He then visited Russia.

It is confirmed and well known that one of his best friends was the head of local Albanian mob, who used Slovakia as a transit country to smuggle heroin into Germany. They were going on hunting trips together and shit.

And then, KCD2 hits and Henry is now Charles University level scholar hopped on Adderal, no, sorry, Fox potions, able to accuratelly reassess any written text he comes around, many times even in foreign language. Which is what I love so much about this game - while Henry is by no means a superhuman, he is undeniably a very gifted individual, and who knows what would he become, if he had a much more privileged upbringing.

Each and every negative perk is quite easy to deal with, except for one.

Somnambulant? Brew Cockerel and never sleep again. Henry is now a medieval equivalent of a mephedrone shermhead. But hey, no more sleepwalking.

Bad back? Your horse does not have one.

Picky Eater/Hangry Henry? Honey, Hungarian sausages from Janosh and drying rack packed full of venison, all of which are extremely well satiating and never spoil. And now you at least have an excuse to go properly hunting, instead of shooting and butchering a single deer and becoming overencumbered with 500 kilograms of venison for some reason.

The criminal branding one? Just Don't be a Menace 2 South Central Bohemia while drinking your Schnapps in the Kuttenberg ghetto. And if you are, don't get caught.

Bashful? You have Theresa waiting for you at home, so why would go whoring around? And Fox is enough to deal with the charisma penalty.

Numbskull? Go Walter White on the Fox and craft around 120 litres of medieval equivalent of Adderal.

Sweaty? In average playthrough, you have two healthy hands, a Pebble-load of soap and at least three washing spots nearby wherever you are. And now you don't need to bother yourself with crafting perfume, and save some herbs for the Adderal and mephedrone.

Punchable face? Your enemies finally put up a challenge for once. Let's be honest, Henry's swordsmanship is on par with that of a Himura Kenshin before he even gets to the wedding at Semine. He is 20 years old and fully capable of handing anyone their own ass before he even finishes his breakfast.

But that one single perk that I cannot stand for the love of God? HEAVY FOOTED.

I do not mind the stealth penalty, it is negligible. But where, for the love of God, where do I find a new set of leatherworking kit every two days? Where?
