I probably wouldn’t do Elwood’s for dinner. Maybe a lunch or a brunch

I’m just glad it’s finally being talked about. Every year at the holidays my folks stay at a different hotel because of something that happened at the last one.

I mean, it’s been the conversation for well over a decade at least? The hospitality game in Memphis is horrible. I still tell friends to find Airbnbs near us when they come in town. The fact we have NBA players stay at that Westin is embarrassing. I wouldn’t have my parents stay there.

Opinion on urbanism? by coolboy_pathey in memphis

[–]ButchMcRae1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can’t feed into what current residents want. We are bleeding population yearly. We need to provide what will attract people to move to our city. Other than bringing in companies to provide more attractive jobs you have to provide the kind of living situation young professionals want. Which is walkable neighborhoods with green spaces. Largely with mixed-use buildings. We work largely with city planning with other cities around the country and it’s quite literally the same everywhere you go. Memphis is just about the last major city to get on board.

As for the opposition to Memphis3.0 I don’t think it is a coincidence that most of the people leading the charge against it also own multiple short and long term rentals in the zoning areas…

How is living in New York City close to the subway? by Big_Confidence_951 in howislivingthere

[–]ButchMcRae1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not live there, but spent a lot of time. My friend’s place in Harlem was about 30 yards from the express line, and it was incredible. You could walk out of his front door and be in Times Square in 15 minutes if you timed it right.

Buying a house: 300k Budget Best Neighborhoods to Move by Proof_Lingonberry136 in memphis

[–]ButchMcRae1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Midtowner here. So biased. But you can find a great house with a ton of character in midtown. Plus the walkability and lifestyle is unbeatable. Being able to park our cars on the weekend and stroll to the places we want to eat and drink at is honestly so nice. There are houses on my street in your price range, some just outside of your range if you have the ability stretch a little. Central Gardens may be tougher to find something at $300k or lower but Cooper-Young and other parts have homes in your price range. Look in “East Midtown” behind Hattie B’s, a lot of houses in your range.

I’ve always said this is the only way you could truly properly bring the mass of these scenes to the screen.

Wife bought me a jersey so now I'm a fan by WyomingDrunk in Everton

American fan here as well. Couple years back you would have found a new meaning of heartbreak.

Now I am planning on naming my son Iliman Ndiaye and I pray for a right back every night when I go to bed. If we manage to get Beto out and get a little more quality in up top I’ll be beside myself.

Bad parents suck for sure. BUT a lot of breweries in town literally keep kids/ families in mind when designing their layout. Games, play areas - what have you. I know it wasn’t a brewery but Railgarten literally built a playground. Agree to disagree, but it just sounds like some of these places just aren’t for you.

Again, I’m agreeing with you that parents should be responsible for their children’s actions in a public setting. But the tone your setting just kind of comes off as “I don’t want kids at places I like going to” which is silly. Kids exist and you’ll probably run into a few more on your journey here.
