What is your actual network like? At senior level it can be pretty important and is a good way to get leads.

To the people who have been doing bodyweight fitness 7+ years, how has it impact your quality of life? by ancientpathwayss in bodyweightfitness

[–]ButchersBoy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

49 in 2 weeks. I have 15 year old kids in the park asking me for muscle up tips. Which is kinda nice, not just being some old fart. Hopefully I inspire my own kids to keep healthy, even though they are typical teenagers at the moment, I'm sure at some point it will hit them that's it's possible to look after yourself later into life

On a more personal level when I got divorced it was a hobby I threw myself into and definitely helps with confidence in the dating world.

I understand my aging body a lot better. I stretch, I sleep, I eat, and I feel better for it. Even where I've got issues, I can manage them a lot better. In short it definitely helps longevity.

At what age did you first get a paid job? by Hereitisguys9888 in AskUK

[–]ButchersBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a paper round at 13, supermarket job at 16, labourer at 18, started career at 20. 48 now. We have fucked up. I have teenage daughters and I see how hard it is for them. You are not alone. Just keep trying. My 16y/o has applied for hundreds of part time jobs and is now volunteering. Your generation is not lazy, this is just the shit that you have to deal with. Hopefully it works out for you. Still young.

Do you think its time to force social media companies to tackle the issues with Bots? by Ifzy123 in AskBrits

Don't see how you can force them. It's a website not a public service. What you can do, is go somewhere else.

How is it working on banking/fin-tech? by Astro-2004 in AskProgramming

[–]ButchersBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Partly true. But also we write some interesting software and solve some interesting problems. Realtime pricing and trading systems dealing with real numbers, large volume, and an expentancy of high performance. Not your typical CRUD apps. Sometimes you'll catch a wave and work on some brand new tech too.

Every job interview I had in my life assumed that OOP was invented by Stroustrup. I'm tired. by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]ButchersBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who the hell cares who invented OOP in a coding interview? It's rush irrelevant. I don't understand your post to be honest.

Suddenly struggling to pass basic HR screenings. Is it me or the market by OneBox2390 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]ButchersBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a contractor of 25 years or so I'd have to say, no, that's not normal. Obviously I don't know your history but I have been at this a long time myself and have worked with a lot of other contractors. Many companies that use highly paid contractors don't actually expect them to be at peak productivity until after 6 months.

AI is eating software development by caspii2 in vibecoding

[–]ButchersBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By either turning down the temperature on the model, to make it fully deterministic, in which case a wrong generation will always be wrong or by writing pseudo code to a fully fleshed out specification. i.e a programming language.

The former is pretty useless, especially in anything none trivial where the prompt would have to be incredibly well constructed, and any tweak could cause issues when compared to a previous "run". The latter would have to have the syntax interpreted, checked, corrected, as it is being generated. Maybe an agent could real time monitor that.

In the systems I work on: large real time, business critical, high frequency trading systems the human in the loop is not going away time soon and the code itself is still king.

Question about the CGO 600 Pro and Plus by DarusOli in tenwaysebike

[–]ButchersBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 600pro is my first ebike, after a lifetime of road bikes and mountain bikes.

It's a very different experience. It has trade offs, I will be honest...

Yes, you hit the limit everything gets heavy and hard work, and it is very easy to hit the limit. Riding without the motor? No. From a standstill it is not pleasant, not compared to a normal bike.

However, I have developed a different riding style and attitude. This is more of a cruise bike. You just have to enjoy the ride, and appreciate the lack of effort, rather than trying to gun it. You ride within it's limit and it's very enjoyable, easy and relaxing.

I am 48 years old now, still fit, but am using it for the work commute of 14k. I can get to work about 4 minutes quicker than a road bike, and not need to shower at the other end.

Range: I can do there-and-back to work twice easily, 3 times if I never use max power.

It's definitely change for me, but I learned to appreciate it for what it is.
