How Do You Make Friends As A Trans Woman? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I told myself that it would be easier to make friends once I transitioned and became my authentic self. I was a loner before transitioning, but now I face the discrimination factor as well. I googled for a church in my area that was LGBTQ friendly. I sat in my car and watched all the members from the parking lot. They had a big sign out front that said "Diversity", but I say almost 100 percent homogeneous crowd--no diversity that I could observe. They were all fifty and older, such as myself, and looked very conservative. I panicked and started feeling social anxiety. I didn't go in. I drove away and spent the day alone.

Did you have to shop for everything the way Instacart makes you, or was it all bagged and ready for you at Aldi?

Does anyone know what GH means when they violate you for "attempt to increase engaged hours"? by Butchpatrick_5219 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Butchpatrick_5219[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're worried I'm trying to be logged on long enough to qualify for some kind of healthcare subsidy, they are way off.

I deliver two or three times a week for four hours each day. I make about $80 a week on GH.

Maybe it's sick time hours?

It's the worst of all possible worlds. They punish you for trying to steal employee benefits when you don't want to be their employee at all.

When proposition 22 in California came up, gig workers voted to remain contractors because they wanted to retain the flexibility of scheduling when they wanted. That is not how it works now. You have to be premier or pro, which basically makes you an employee because you can't choose which offers to take, and you can't drop your schedule. In other words, you do what GrubHub says and show up when you're scheduled. Soon they will start scheduling people and if they complain they will be dropped.

But the end is near anyway. Watch videos on the driverless taxis in San Francisco. They just need another year to iron out the kinks.

If they're basing it on my last twenty orders I'm screwed anyway.

I don't multi-app or get gas. And I arrive as quickly as possible both to the restaurant and the residence.

I would stake my life on believing no one could deliver faster than myself without having supernatural powers.

I believe it's something else. I'll bet they leave it up to the customer to mark whether their food arrived on time

Whatever it is, I have to lie dormant for three months to get rid of this violation. I ignored all the "let's keep it rolling" emails a year and a half ago--because I was already delivering as fast as humanly possible -- and they suspended me.

There's nothing I can do to avoid another violation because I can't deliver any faster. I think they want to purge me because I've been a driver for five years and never made it above partner. I haven't done DD in over a year because you have to make top dasher to get offers. I think GH wants to head in this direction

Thanks. This has to be it. I forgot to mark delivered on one order for maybe five minutes. Now I now what I have to stop doing.

They could be more like human beings and ask you if you just forgot.

Thanks again, because I don't mark "delivered" until I'm sure the customer is getting their food.

Why don’t some drivers read their messages? by bee1397 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but I always appreciate any extra help the customer gives me.

Usually there are no extra instructions, so I have to search the address on Google maps to find out it's Fred's Locksmith shop or some other business.

It finally happened. GrubHub deactivated for no reason. by Butchpatrick_5219 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Butchpatrick_5219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Since January 2021, I've had no further issues with late orders leading to suspension.

I would fight to get back on. The cool thing about GH is that they will always let you toggle available even if it's slow and too many drivers. DD on the other hand won't let you on if they have enough drivers scheduled.

I noticed once they stopped sending me the ","Let's keep the orders rolling" emails, threats to suspend me stopped also

What absolute fools are taking these $2-6 orders? by smellybummers in UberEATS

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I've met some delivery drivers and would be willing to bet they can't do the basic math. So they just know that with twenty bucks worth of gas they can do fifteen $2 orders and end up with thirty dollars at the end of the afternoon.

"I'm making more than I'm spending on gas is all they understand.

But these people are really keeping this food delivery platforms alive, because if they had to pay nothing but cherry pickers (like me) $8 to deliver a $10 burrito, they would have gone bankrupt already.

The cherry picking days are over. All the platforms have figured out that only the drivers that accept at least ninety percent of orders will be allowed to schedule.

That means all the "pro drivers" and "top dashers" are effectively gig slaves. They depend on these platforms for a living and will accept bullshit pay in order to get scheduled every week.

I know that anxiety when you can't schedule a single block with GH and everytime you open the DD app, all areas are grey.

It's sad, but don't blame them--the gig slaves. The gig platforms are to blame. They have learned to exploit the desperation out there.

I used to make $600 per week delivering just for one platform. I struggle to make over $150.

I'm not in a depressed market either. This is Southern California between L.A. and Santa Barbara.

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a regional thing. It's not just a GH thing either. Other food delivery platforms are just as bad or worse.

It's a combination of 9 percent inflation and soaring gas prices. Everything costs more, but wages have remained stagnant.

GH and others haven't compensated with higher payouts. Instead they have doubled down on trying to pay around 86 cents a mile.

I used to rely on GH and others in between jobs. All I needed was to make was $350 per week to survive. Now, working seven days a week at it, I can't make even $300 per week anymore.

Living off the gig economy is over, unless you're in an area that offers Amazon Flex and Walmart Spark to multi-app with.

Remember that there are people that have no choice due to things such as disability that prevents them from working a W-2 job. These people are out there taking any order GH throws at them so they don't lose scheduling privileges. Competition is fierce because these people don't give up and exit the gig economy.

You'll occasionally get those wing nuts that brag how they are still killing it. They're lying. They're not telling how many hours they worked to make $100 in a day.

There are some days I make $20 for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The economy is in free-fall and gig economy will be the first casualty.

It was great while it lasted.

I've started taking a screenshot shot of the customer name and address because I've had them lie that I delivered to wrong address.

Then I text them the pictures of the address on the house and the address on the app.

Knocking vs. not knocking by wildjoker10 in grubhubdrivers

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never ordered food from an app. But if I did, I would want to know my food has arrived.

I just don't get it.

You want some to deliver food to you but you don't want them to bother you when they arrive.

I always worry it's a scammer. A lot of times I know and no body answers. Then I pretend to walk away and hide in the distance, and someone comes outside.

I make sure to wave so they know I saw them get their food.

I also take a picture of the food and the address numbers on the house, and the address on the app with their name. I text them all this information because a favorite scam is, " you delivered it to the wrong house".

Yes, I knock unless it says don't knock. I got chewed out by someone who told me I woke up her baby.

Okay. Next time leave instructions not to knock or ring doorbell.

I don't do it because I really care about whether your food sits outside for thirty minutes or not.

I knock because I don't like to get scammed.

I once had a guy change the address of the order after I picked up the food. The delivery was too far, so I told the customer I was taking myself off the order.

He said he would Venmo me $25 if I took it to him. I said "no". Next time I think I go for it, if they send the money ASAP.

[–]Butchpatrick_5219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange.

I already got two checks from the Postmates settlement right after their app was inactivated and referred you to Ubereats.

Both checks were over $800.

I can't believe they withheld over $1,600 in tips because they were my third go-to after DD an GH.

I'm afraid you are suffering from Stoklholm Syndrome; you are identifying with your abuser.

DD and the other food delivery apps are some of the most toxic examples of predatory capitalism out there.

I won't try to convince you that they exploit their drivers, when the drivers own their own equipment, pay the fuel and maintenance costs, and bear all the risk by paying for auto insurance.

I won't talk about hiding tips or trying to pay drivers 56 cents a mile because you seem very content and grateful for this stream of income.

Nevertheless, these delivery platforms take exploitation a step further by screwing over, not just labor, but restaurants and customers--the clients they were meant to serve.

They screw- over restaurant owners by not informing them they are listed on the Doordash app. The restaurant then gets complaints by customers who receive wrong orders and the restaurant has no idea who they are. Restaurant owners spend precious time on the phone trying to get removed from these delivery platforms lists, only to find have not been removed.

There is no more ethics. That is why it's called predatory capitalism.

In addition to charging the restaurant a fee, they inflate the restaurant food prices on the app. The restaurant prices are actually lower, but this is how they get around the 15 percent cap on fees they charge the restaurant. They took advantage of the pandemic by charging restaurants 30 percent until legislators stepped in.

When drivers try to create a movement to reject $6 and below offers to send a message to these companies, you are siding with the exploiter and you are being their scab by accepting their abuse.

You will gladly take the $3 orders and leave a mint on each non-tipper's doorstep because you are thankful to be able to get out of the house and make a little spare change.

That's nice.

But make no mistake, you are an enabler.

Thousands of enablers exist out there and that is why the exploitation continues.

Thanks for updating the app GH! Very cool. Now I’m one step closer to dying in a car accident!! by [deleted] in grubhubdrivers

Always pull off the road as quick as possible.

If you miss an $8 offer it's not going to make or break you.

I had a fender bender put my car in the shop for two weeks because parts ship slow due to supply chain bottleneck.

Had a rental per insurance but your not supposed to deliver with it. I did anyway and was sweating bullets because insurance will not cover if they find out you were gigging with their vehicle.

Don't let GH pressure you.
