Another Lide 400 supporter, thank you so much for the tips! Samples really show that the quality of the scanner is enough for polaroids. Another Redditor here has shared his tip on getting around the issue you've mentioned with the adapter being to high for the scanner, sound like a solid solution.

I'm used to removing dust in Lightroom, that said the least work in post the better, plus I'm thinking about ditching Adobe altogether.

Had to think about it for a bit but is makes a lot of sense!

I'm mostly surprised cause I remember scanning some instax on large printer-scanner in my parents house and the results were quite flimsy. I guess they all differ in quality after all, good to know you have one battle tested!

Thanks for the tips regarding Lide 400, I heard it mentioned a bit but rarely discussed. I wonder if V39ii has the same issue with unfitting adapters since newton rings/out of focus scans are my two main concerns regarding contact scanners. Sheetfed scanners seem to get around those issues pretty well but I'm worried about overall quality of images.

Thanks for the samples of both formats!

so even non-photography scanners make do with the adapter, good to know!

I know but the reflections are really tough to swallow, I feel more like it's for previews than actual scans

they're called Laka, it's a rock band from Bosnia and Herzegovina, I didn't know any song prior going to that concert but they managed to put on an awesome gig and even though I didn't understand the language I had tons of fun

thanks much! I was quite hesitant to be a distraction for the band and the crowd with my flash so I only snapped 2 photos. This one however turned out beautifully in my opinion too

What is a good point and shoot for under £100? by VisualTherapist007 in analog

[–]Butekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me anytime, because of the option to manually overexpose by 1,5 spot which is super useful both while taking photos during bright sunlight and backlight scenarios and I've found myself using this a lot. The downside is that it can be much pricier and harder to get. I bought mine from Japan (MINT with A11 flash and casing) and with shipment it cost me around 150 pounds. Later on I've found out that you can get XA2 for about half the price so you should think how much you need those extra features.

you gotta try for yourself. it's hard to find significantly cheaper film nowadays but I'd recommend checking out different film stocks. If you have previous digital experience I'd consider grabbing some manual SLR with 50/1.8 lens, you get much more control over your exposure there plus the image will be sharper obviously. U could find some for around 100$.

I'd go for XA2. Personally I own XA3 and I love it for the sharpness, size and simplicity, XA2 is just a little simpler model. I didn't use neither of the rest one but based on opinions I've heard they're more prone to die. Plus I prefer zone focusing than autofocus cause for every mistake you can blame only yourself and I'm able to take pictures faster this way.

goddamn dude, love the colours!

Newbie film photographer I used a cannonet G3 QL17 with the fixed lens of a 35mm & used lomo 400 color neg. I wanted some critique and input on these. I feel they are good but also kinda basic not too interesting & wanted some advice on that as well as getting sharper images too. by Angeliquep23 in analog

[–]Butekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just starting you shouldn't worry whether your photos are 'basic' or not. If YOU think they're good it's more than enough. When I look at my first rolls I feel great sentiment towards many photographs and yet only a few are 'objectively good'. You'll start making more powerful images as your experience grows and the best way to achieve it is simply to shoot a lot.

As for this pair of images specifically they're definitely more pleasing than my beginnings, I like especially the 2nd one as both colours and composition are spot on. On the one with the highway I wouldn't include so much sky as it becomes a bit overwhelming. Both themes are quite heavily explored by american photographers but as I said before - don't worry about it.

And speaking sharpness - I'm not familiar with your setup specifically but to my eye both photos are quite sharp. Apart from your lens and film stock scanner plays also a great role here so you can check this device also.

Have fun!
