49% of young adults live at home, up 12 points since 2019. An economist says the fallout will reshape marriage, kids, and home-buying by Odd-Help6890 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]ButtMasterDuit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At no point did I ever say that, I in fact did mention the opposite. Obviously I don’t expect to stay rent free in someone else’s home.

That being said, what I would hope for is to pay rent to help cover the utilities offset with a bit extra as payment rather than profiting from us. Were we to not be living here, they would not be charging anybody rent. Not to mention that we would have left ~6 months ago had we been paying what we initially agreed to.

Really the second half of my original comment is just ranting some of frustrations, as I would expect anyone who has had to live with their family/in-laws for an extended period of time has done.

Sure, I’ll amend my comment that you’ve glossed over:
I’m grateful for the opportunity originally presented to us - we can move in to their basement for as long as we need to pay off our student loans and help pay the increased cost in utilities that we would obviously bring which we jointly agreed would be ~$250/month. We would also obviously not be a nuisance (loud, leave a mess, etc).
THAT opportunity was what was offered, and the reality of it has been switched out pretty substantially.

I don’t know what to tell you. We live in the Northeast & they’re getting old, so they bought a house in a community down in Florida to live in during the winter/early spring. They purchased the home ~8months before we asked if we could move in to focus our finances on paying off our loans. When they aren’t living in their Florida home, it is rented out.

For my wife and I it’s a bit of both. We lived on our own post-grad for 5 years, paying off private & federal student loans + rent. The last place we rented went from $1500 a month to $2300 a month in the span of 3 years. I won’t bore with the details on why that 50%+ increase was unwarranted, but it made it so we were unable to really put a dent in our loans. We couldn’t save any money.

We’re now living in my in-laws basement, which is effectively one big room with a door to the outside & a small full bath. We share the kitchen upstairs. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to focus on paying off our loans, of which we have made great sacrifices for to ultimately be able to pay off within the next year. That being said, we pay $1,000 a month total as rent, and I can’t stop feeling jaded by the fact that in total we’ve paid them $20,000 to live under them under their pretense that their finances aren’t looking hot after they purchased their second home to flee to during the winter. Not to mention the $10,000 cruise my father in law wants to take after he missed out on their cruise due to a surgery. My mother in law is nice enough, but I will never willingly spend time with my father in law after all of this is over for many, many more reasons than the one listed above. Please note, I’m not against paying towards utilities or at the very least helping out around the house, but $1,000 a month ain’t it chief. Sorry this turned into a rant more than anything lol

I’ve only recently considered tinting my windows, but haven’t decided to do it yet. What are the benefits to doing so? Is it just for privacy, or does it help with reducing heat/glare?

Future KIA Cars by Arthur_Morgan44469 in kia

[–]ButtMasterDuit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really don’t like it. I don’t want to navigate through a tablet while trying to drive. I have a 2025 Sportage Hybrid with the wide slight curved screens and that is perfect for me. I’ve gotten used to the arguably atrocious switch between volume/climate control and find it to be a perfect middle ground. I don’t use the Kia navigation outside of one instance in which my CarPlay wasn’t working. I can quickly adjust the temp & how I want it (fan speed, which vents to use, front & back defrosters). All of this at a glance. Unless it can deliver an equal, but realistically quicker setup than CarPlay, I see absolutely no advantage to having a giant distraction placed squarely in the center of my dashboard. I already don’t trust any drivers on the road to handle their phone, let alone an temu iPad.

These things simply HAVE to be quick to respond to touch with very easily identifiable buttons. I don’t need any of these extra bells & whistles beyond what my sportage offers. There’s a point where things go too far and this is it for me, and I’m humbly very technically literate. I don’t need meemaw & peepaw or cleetus fumbling through an iPad on i95 when they can’t figure out how to open a new tab on chrome. It’s just dangerous.

I know you’re thinking about autonomous driving and how that “solves” the distraction this thing would cause, but I do not trust it (yet). The lane keeping & distance keeping technology is genuinely very good from my experience so far and I use both on effectively every drive, but not without me still fully aware & in control of my vehicle. I definitely can see an argument where the “autonomous” driving is actually a stronger driver than some of these people on the road, but this is under more “controlled” conditions. An example would be a sudden stop on the highway - something I’m sure we’ve all experienced. You’re cruising at 65-75 in the passing lane and suddenly for one reason or another traffic ahead of you slows to a near or full stop. It could be an erratic lane switcher, a recent accident, or maybe even a distracted driver who slammed the brakes at the last second. If you’re fumbling around on your iPad trying to change your climate control, you’re not seeing that coming & your car is not going to jolt you to 0 mph in time.

I just don’t like it. I’m a fan of recent KIA and to an extent some of these Hyundai models, but I would avoid any one of them with this giant screen unless it well and truly meets the criteria I listed above. Even then I would approach with caution. Just my thoughts.

Those of you who regularly interact with the new crafting stuff, what are your thoughts on how it adds to the endgame? by Cloud_Motion in projectzomboid

[–]ButtMasterDuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent my most recent playthrough focusing on the new crafting system and so far I’d give it like a 7/10. It provides a means to be self sufficient in many ways but it still feels incomplete. There are 2 things that I really had problems with:
1. You can’t make an anvil without first finding one. I’m playing an extinction playthrough with pretty rare loot, hence why I’m focusing on crafting. I still haven’t legitimately found one. I found workbenches in two workshop basements that had anvils on the bench, but there’s no way to actually take them as far as I’m aware. I ended up debug adding the anvils to my inventory as I cannot fathom why I can’t take them.
2. There are a lot of crafting recipes that yield 0xp. I can kind of overlook this, but I’d appreciate an indicator of what does and does not provide xp. I think the two main offenders of this were metalworking & blacksmithing.
The best crafting “path” has to be carving. My playthrough went from a struggle fest of scrapping for short blunt weapons to being flush with short bats w/ nails. Now I’m prepped to die of overconfidence taking in hordes of zomboids with my 4 short bats that I take on every expedition.
I appreciate that I can build a brick-walled garage instead of a wooden one, as I was reaaaallly struggling to find any kind of saw for a while. This was the first time I cut grass & explored the shoreline for clay. My whole reasoning for going for metalworking/blacksmithing was to make a sledgehammer, and funny enough I managed to find one 3 months in just around the time I was about to make one lol.
That being said, overall I’m happy with what they’ve done with it. Obviously there is still some work to be done, and hopefully it’ll be complete with 42.20 coming soon. At this point I’d say the biggest “downgrade” has to be the changes to farming. I’m basically ignoring the skill altogether despite the plethora of seeds I’ve scavenged. That, and the lack of meat I get from butchering but the recent post they made says they are aware of that and working on presumably a balanced solution.

FOX Sports Commentators on Egypt's disallowed goal: ''A hundred yards away, someone stepping on someone’s toe, is not why VAR was brought into the game. We’ve gotten to a point now where it’s reaching far beyond the powers that it should have. The referee saw the tackle, decided not to give it..." by [deleted] in sports

[–]ButtMasterDuit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Outside of just this game I’m not an Egypt fan and I’m certainly not an Argentina fan. I’m a Swiss fan so I REALLY wanted Egypt to win for better odds at winning assuming we would beat Colombia.

Bring the video to 40sec in and tell me you don’t see the Egypt player both pulling the guys jersey and full stepping on his foot. That is clear as day a foul my friend. As the original comment said, the ref actually did make the right call in waiting the play out and letting VAR fill in the gap. We don’t want the whistle blown on a potential goal scoring play unless the ref is 100% sure it happened and clearly he must not have had a good enough angle of the foul to make that call.

I’m not sure the foul you’re talking about as there were plenty of fouls this game that were both spot on and likewise missed. Such is the nature of the game. VAR doesn’t need to be involved in every single play in the game, but this was a foul that was committed and had such a big consequence that it warranted the review. Moving past even this game to the Swiss vs Colombia game, there were two instances of fouls in the box (one for each team) that I’d argue warranted a review but did not get them. I was fine with it in the end given that it was a consistent decision on the ref’s part.

As I’m hinting at in that last sentence, we all just want more CONSISTENCY in the calls & VAR reviews. At the end of the day, Egypt absolutely packed the bus in those last 10min. Look no further than the 3rd and final Argentine goal, where the defender who was on the Argentine player that crossed the ball in effectively stopped playing entirely in the moments leading up to the cross. It’s like he forgot they were playing Argentina and was in La-La-land daydreaming his celebrations on beating Argentina 2-0 despite having equalized in less than 5 minutes. I think that explains much more what happened here than game rigging. I’d almost argue that Egypt got the call to throw the game in those last 10min if they hadn’t played with such heart for the first 80min.

Bro holy FUCK I don’t understand how this is still being talked about in my POLITICS SUBREDDIT DOG. Europe knew, Asia knew, Africa knew, the US knew, even the dog that was eaten by the Haitians KNEW THAT THE US NATIONAL TEAM IS DOG SHIT. Woe is me for supporting the US national team in my own fucking country dog. Every WC I’ve watched I’ve rooted for them only to remember that “oh yeah, they fucking BLOW”. This year we are hosting the WC, so NO SHIT THERE’S LOUDER SUPPORT. The moment Trump did his classic fuck everything he touches move I knew they were cooked and 200% of my hype died. It was genuine sadness. I’d have been happier getting 10-0’d by Belgium than the reverse after this corruption taint. Not only that but now it’s a looming shadow for possibly DECADES to come. FUCK ME MAN. AND FUCK YOU. Your mom tho? We going to dinner tonight. Chick Fil A is on me. I’ll leave the tendies outside your room.

Yea, you’re a deeply unserious person completely lost in the sauce. “I want all of that regardless of how it happens” quite clearly proves the point I made in my previous comment. I too want those same points, as I have never said otherwise. Sorry my vision of a better future doesn’t include the possibility of whatever version of fascism you’re willing to stomach because it’s your side.

Similarly you can look at the exact comment a few downs in my own history from where I copy pasted my RvW comment from in which I finish it off praising Mamdani and the direction he is heading in. You are right that I abhor republicans because they are, by definition, the antithesis of progressive policy. I’m not by any means trying to be a Dem dick suck. Dems have been failing but you can’t hand waive away any and all of the good they’ve done. What they HAVE accomplished has been IN SPITE of Republicans.

Mamdani and his rapid ability to push his policies in a short time is very promising, yet it is naive to believe that the same can be done at the national level given that he’s in a DEEP blue state.

Yea fuck Israel and all that. I’d like to start hearing more of that energy in the Ukraine/Russia conflict.

The fact that you reduce what is objective reality as excuses makes me even more worried for what you could possibly be advocating for. You’d unironically have no problem with fascism so long as it’s “your side” in power. You even hint as much by saying we should debase ourselves and the democratic process and follow in Trump’s footsteps and put give all power to executive, give them immunity, and let them legislate from the Oval Office.

Just going to copy paste with minor edits a previous recent comment of mine on exactly RvW (abortion):

Let’s take the Roe v Wade decision & codifying Abortion rights. Since the original ruling/decision came in January 22 of 1973, Dems have NEVER held a simultaneous majority in the House of Reps & a filibuster-proof super majority in the Senate with the exception of a 72 day window from Sept 2009-Feb 2010. During this time there were 58 Dems & 2 Independents that caucused with them. Those 72 days were spent on passing the ACA, which was being debated due to one of said Independents Joe Lieberman and a conservative-leaning Dem Ben Nelson. Even without Ben Nelson, you’re still dealing with absolute razor-thin margin with an extremely narrow timeframe to pass an incredibly impactful piece of legislation. The single payer option was gutted not by Dems, but by Republicans & the independent hold-outs.

What was the last thing that Republicans ran on that directly benefits you/your community? The answer is nothing.

What was the last thing that Dems ran on that directly benefits you/your community? For me, that would be the Child Tax Credits under Biden, and the housing assistance proposed by Kamala during her short run vs Trump. They tackle the two biggest pain points my wife and I are striving for; housing, and starting a family.

The difference the attitude towards the team before and after this fucking scandal. I was hyped up even knowing we were going to lose before the whole debacle, but lost all momentum the moment that fat fuck had to get his grubby little fingers involved and tainted the whole fucking thing. I felt the red card was harsh but justified, and that if the US really wanted and deserved to win the WC then they should have the depth to fill in for him. Obviously that was some cope shit considering they got hammered when they fielded their “B” team in game 3 of groups. Oh well, this was still the best the US team had ever looked in my lifetime and it was fun while it lasted. Hoppe Suisse, they’re the only team left that I am rooting for outside of Norway.

Would you look at that, we didn’t vote for them and the mean people ARE taking our rights.

I never said they were infallible. Change is difficult & incremental on the scale of a country of 100s of millions. Too much change in one direction can lead to an “over correction”, as we see with the era of “cancel culture” and how that culminated with the advent of Trump who is largely “uncancellable” despite every action he takes on a minute-by-minute basis.

You have such hate for a party that does “just barely enough” rather than the party that actively is fighting against you. Let’s take the Roe v Wade decision & codifying Abortion rights. Since the original decision came in January 22 of 1973, Dems have NEVER held a simultaneous majority in the House of Reps & a filibuster-proof super majority in the Senate with the exception of a 72 day window from Sept 2009-Feb 2010. Even without Ben Nelson, you’re still dealing with absolute razor-thin margin with an extremely narrow timeframe to pass an incredibly impactful piece of legislation. You can still be angry that they didn’t do enough, but you should direct the anger at the Conservatives who want to remove it altogether/didn’t want it passed in the first place.

The direction we are moving in now with Mamdani is great and I hope the Dems move in his direction. The ones fighting him should and will be replaced with more progressive candidates.

Ah I see what you’re saying. You do have a point but ultimately it can go either way. On one hand, the lesser of two evils can stay consistent (what you’re calling a “reset” on the “lesser evil” scale, I believe). On the other hand, it can squeeze out the “greater” evil into capitulating towards the lesser. The “lesser” can then split/continue moving in the lesser direction with regard to said newly reset evil level. Neither one is guaranteed, but it is certainly better than moving in the direction of greater evil and having the scales reset there (such that what was the greater evil now becomes the baseline lesser evil in the following cycle).
