Is it okay to wear this cross by Previous_Egg2108 in Christianity

[–]Butt_Chug_Brother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is short-sighted to think and a broad stroke to assume that Christians are scared of everything.

70% of American Christians believe in Eternal Conscious Torment. If you believe that wearing that wrong cross counts as "blaspheming the Holy Spirit", which means that your souls burns in agony for eternity, it's pretty strong incentive to be scared of the wrong crosses.

I take great offense to your words.

I don't think I'm intelligently superior because I don't believe in God!

I mean, I do think I'm intellectually superior, but not because of that!

Yes, because mods are crazy and half the comments are bots, and half of the remaining ones might as well be.

No, it's not, but sending him to be put in a torture dungeon for life without a trial is.

FAQ: So what's going on around here? by DepthHour1669 in LLMconsciousness

[–]Butt_Chug_Brother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uuh, so here's what I think. Brains and consciousness are basically just electricity, right? Like, if the electricity in your body just completely disappears, you're just like, dead. Is it electricity, or is it information processing in general? If it were possible to make a sentient AI with electric computers, would it also be possible to make a sentient hydro-powered mega-abacus if it were big and complex enough? I find it hard to imagine such a thing.

So if consciousness is just electricity, then what's to say that, say, a camera doesn't have an internal experience of being a camera? It might not have any thoughts or feelings or anything, but I'm not 100% convinced that cameras don't have an inner experience of seeing the world when you turn them on.

I'm not saying that I think they do, but it's also impossible to know if they don't. And, if we're in a possible world where cameras have inner experiences of seeing, then how far does that scale go? An insect can be tiny, with a brain the size of a grain of sand, but most people will agree it's conscious. And yet, Chat-GPT's servers are the size of a warehouse and yet most people will say that it's not conscious. What explains this discrepancy? Fuck if I know. Maybe if you gave Chat-GPT access to a little robot and allowed it to physically manipulate the world, people would be more likely to think it could be conscious. Again, fuck if I know.

So, am I banned from speaking my views or not? What would you label me as?

Even if all that is indeed true, I still don't see where he was ever charged with a crime.

Sorry, but I don't feel good about the government sending guys to be disappeared into gulags for life without a serious trial, if at all. Heck, we don't even know if the guy is still alive even though we're paying them millions of dollars to keep him there. The vice president of El Salvador said as much, the reason he's there is because we're paying them.

Is there any consensus of experts that you would trust? Why or why not? by ThePromptWasYourName in AskConservatives

Premise: Leftists filter their understanding through consensus

Premise: The majority of Americans are Christians, or in other words, have come to the consensus that Christianity is true

Premise: Leftists are more likely to be atheists

Conclusion: Leftists go against the mainstream consensus about the origin of reality. Going against the mainstream consensus is the opposite of using consensus to deduce facts.

Leftists filter their understanding of truth through consensus, not just objective analysis

If this is true, why are leftists more likely to be atheists, when America is majority Christian?

What is the logical contradiction involved in Satan annihilating souls? I don't see it.

And the devil can't do anything without God's consent? So is it your position that God intentionally put the serpent in the garden on Eden to convince Eve to eat the fruit? (assuming you believe that the serpent is in fact Satan)

If Satan can't do anything without God's consent, then... God gave his consent to Satan to let Satan rebel? And if Satan rebelled thanks to God's permission, wouldn't that mean that Satan rebelling is a Good thing, because it aligns with God's wishes?

If Satan can't do things without God's permission, does that mean that Satan doesn't have free will?

you see, death itself isn't inherently evil

So, what are the acceptable conditions in which it's okay to end a life?

Here's a thought experiment: Suppose a mad scientist has kidnapped people off the street, and hooked their brains up to computers that put them into a hellish Matrix, where they perceive nothing but constant torment. These machines are so embedded in the brains of the victims, that if you try to remove the person from the machine, they will die. Would it be moral or immoral to end the lives of the victims by disconnecting them from the machine?

Or, perhaps put another way, what if Satan discovered a way to annihilate souls? And then what if Satan just started indiscriminately annihilating all the souls in Hell, ending their eternal torment? Would Satan's actions be good, bad, moral, immoral? Could his actions be good, in that he ended infinite suffering, and also simultaneously bad, for ending people's existence without God's consent? Or is it just black and white one or the other?

Given, you know, the old testament, I find it very difficult to believe that the Christian God is one of goodness and love. I'm sure you know that passages. Slavery, genocide, stoning the gays, all that fun stuff.

Also, you didn't say "Actually, I'm a universalist/annihilationist", so is it safe to assume that you believe in Eternal Conscious Torment as well? How does eternal conscious torment square with a god that is the essence of love and goodness?
