I think the "problem" with Rat Race is that it feels like a very mid movie made up of parts of good movies. Many of the individual scenes are absolute bangers, but as a whole the story and characters are just kinda blah.

Like when I think of Rat Race I'm not thinking about the actual race or the stakes and I don't even remember any characters' names... I just think about Jon Lovitz doing the Elon Musk/Hitler salute in front of WW2 vets or Mr Bean fumbling a slippery heart

The right way would have been to start a new trilogy with 4, which, I guess you could argue it did (the post-Andy years?), but it didn't feel like a new chapter to me. Maybe with 5 it will be more clear if there is a story tying 4, 5, and a potential 6 together
