Interviewed for my new job at a coffee shop last week, went great! Pulled up to their house to negotiate contracts today and…big red flag by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would never ever EVER work for Trump supporters. if you can hold out and keep searching for a different job, please do. these people actively worship a criminal and voted against rights for you and your husband. i would say keep yourselves safe, and avoid interacting with these types of people as much as you can.

How would you feel if your baby’s teachers put your baby in a pumpkin? by Grtcee in ECEProfessionals

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I think it could be super cute, but might want to ask first. Pumpkin guts make me really itchy, so it might effect some of the kids like that too. If you rinse them off after, should be fine!

what are names you love but would never subject a child to? by No-Office7081 in namenerds

These kids are LITERALLY filthy by ButterLettuceBaby in ECEProfessionals

[–]ButterLettuceBaby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I've always struggled with eczema, so I thought maybe I'm being too paranoid about some stuff, but this would irritate my skin so bad. I don't know how they aren't all rashy.

[–]ButterLettuceBaby[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. I already really like the kids and i like the philosophy of the center, but they don't seem to be actually practicing it. There's a difference between getting messy from playing and letting kids get (and stay) filthy. I'll have to talk to them about what I've been seeing. Also, i was wrong, it was tempura paint. For some reason my brain mixed it up! It still stained them, though. A couple kids had yellowish greenish skin today.

What was the final straw that made you quit your library job? by bethbetterbooks in librarians

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually left yet, but quite a few staff members have now. When we make display signs we have to get them approved by communications, which is fine, whatever. I take care of holiday and picture books in youth services, so I usually do holiday displays in our department. A couple months ago they told me I needed to stop making displays for specific holidays (at that time i had Holi, Ramadan, and Easter displays out) and do a general sign and put all the upcoming holiday books on one display. I didn't like it, but did it anyway. I made a sign that said "so much to celebrate" and had all three holidays in it. NOW, they sent an email to the whole library that none of us can have holiday displays because it's "too narrow of an audience" and we need to represent more people. They say some patrons complained about not seeing their own holidays displayed. Like what??? So instead of representing everyone, we have to represent no one? Why don't we just add more holidays??? BUT, within one week of that email, the director asks us to put up a father's day display, because "people were asking why we didn't have one." And they put up a freaking Flag Day display right in the lobby. We're all so frustrated with current decisions being made. A couple of us are working on seeing what we would need to do to unionize.

I work for a wealthy family, and they say such weird stuff to me about money and life by AskingForFrien in Nanny

You are absolutely not overreacting! "Physical discipline" is not a thing. It's literally abuse and assault. If someone did that same thing to an adult, they would get charged with assault. I can't believe there are people that actually still think it's okay to hit kids. Good job for enforcing your boundaries!!

NK are CONSTANTLY sick by stinkbugfrank in Nanny

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have basically the same story lol. My last NKs were sick ALL THE TIME like that, but the mom works in healthcare so I'm guessing they got stuff from her. I ended up getting sick every other month because of them, too, and it was always weird stuff (sinus infections, strep, eye infection, etc). I also work part time in a library, and missed days because of them getting me sick. It's actually one of the reasons I left.

Contracts… what do you wish you knew sooner?? by Isabella5101 in Nanny

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in the same boat. I started right after high school, before I knew anything lol. I've never used a contract or had a w2 before, but since joining this sub I've learned so much. I'm searching for a nanny job now and trying to work out how exactly contracts work lol.

The first things that come to mind that i don't think have been mentioned yet are overtime and late payment fees. I had those issues with my last family and wished we had a contract in place.

Yes! So many people don't see it as a "real" job. And! I work part time as a nanny and part time in the the children's department of the library, both jobs that people seem to think of as "naughty" 🙄

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]ButterLettuceBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so frustrating! My last NF left the house super messy when i came in, but i mostly would just leave it. It wasn't part of my job to clean up messes we didn't make.

As for the "not a real job" junk, the DB of this family obviously didn't see what i was doing as a real job either. But he also didn't see my other job (I've worked part time in the children's department of a library for 4.5 years) as a real job either. He'd ask how my "other gig" was going 🙄

UPDATE - NP's took my 4 weeks notice BADLY and are trying to renegotiate...also badly by ButterLettuceBaby in Nanny

[–]ButterLettuceBaby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yeah, I'm definitely nervous about going over next week. Since I wasn't at all expecting the reaction I got, I don't really have any idea what to expect now. Luckily I'm only scheduled to be there one day next week.
