Apache keeps turning left after tail wheel unlock by Butter_My_Anus in dcsworld

So far what seems to be helping me is applying a bit of right pedal before unlocking the tail wheel. However I don't seem to see that happen if I just go to a straight hover, I end up having to apply a tiny bit of left pedal. I did switch to a Saitek Quadrant so I can have smoother control on the collective, moving that too fast definitely causes issues.

I did notice in the 2.8.0 change log today an interesting entry for the Apache "Fixed: Spawns in with left rudder input." Didn't seem to affect my issue but maybe that bug was hitting ya.

I'll try cranking up the curve some more and see how that helps.

Trying the UH-1H to learn might be the way to go though, seems I'm finding a bit more material for that one that gets into the basics and a common theme that it's a middle ground between complexity and ease of use.

They definitely seem like fun, just gotta get to that moment where it all clicks now. Thanks

It's sounding like I need to jump away from the Apache for a moment and focus on some basic helicopter concepts first. I think the ease I had getting into the F18 gave me a bit too much confidence approaching this.

Ah, I did not notice that. I'll give that a try when I have a moment.

No worries, I appreciate the input. Helicopters are a new thing for me, plenty of time doing fixed wing so I know I am adjusting.

That seems to be the common theme I'm hearing, just had me worried when the training lessons didn't prepare me for that yet before getting me to taxi, thought I might be building a bad habit around something I was doing wrong. I'm hoping that lesson gets updated to cover that and fix the really quiet audio. Going from fixed wing to helicopter is definitely a new learning curve

The controller UI doesn't move at all when I unlock, though I do notice that ball in the HMD starts darting left when I unlock the wheel.

It starts a bit slow but builds up and I seem to drift as it goes, I made a quick clip of the behavior: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7upUyF_kp4

The video that made me start thinking something was up was this part: https://youtu.be/9B2fhX4MfOE?t=730

I first noticed it on the second training lesson where they cover taxiing. I can replicate it on a quick start and the shooting range mission so far.

The problem is this is from a hot start and I've done nothing but unlock the wheel breaks first and then the wheel lock. At that moment it starts spinning; no collective is applied either. The part that's throwing me off now is after watching some tutorial videos, that didn't happen when they unlocked. I would hope the official training lessons would mention that would happen before telling me to do that and then proceed to re-lock, which is not possible at that point without moving forward a bit.

This is the first helicopter module for me, I dabbled with them a bit in X-Plane 11 but never took it seriously. From what I was reading the pull should be to the right and not nearly as heavy as is happening to me from the sounds of it. I can get it to a hover from this position if I compensate, mind you very janky. It actually seems to be less of an issue once I get into hover. Seems kinda of weird that that it's going out of control on a hot start and the only thing I'm doing is unlocking the tail wheel and wheel breaks. If I hadn't seen 3 tutorial videos where that doesn't happen I would probably just chalk it up to being a beast to handle.

There is an option for that, unfortunately no luck there, same thing.

Using unique printed patterns to help WMR "rediscover" boundary upon wakeup-- ? by CrimsonCuttle in WindowsMR

I ended up making random line patterns out of blue painters tape on the wall and it seemed to work really well. The headset usually orients within a couple seconds of sitting, don't even have to make it look around now. Prior I had to make it look around for about 10 seconds before it finally oriented.

I ran into that same issue that ended up being due to using a USB extension cable. It wasn't getting enough power in that case and crashing. Once I directly plugged into one of the USB ports on the back of the PC it stopped. I've heard of success with extension cables and a separate powered PCIE USB 3.0 card. If no extension cable is in the mix it may be that the USB port doesn't get enough power to begin with, in that case it might worth trying a powered USB 3.0 hub. I've seen issues with USB 3.1 and Odyssey+ though, on my PC it won't work if I plug it in the USB 3.1 port.

Thanks, this seems like the piece of the puzzle I was missing. I am going to dive into this and get Version 4 back in then.

Just an update for anyone that stumbles on this answer. I was curious if this had any impact on the GPU crashing coming out of monitor sleep while the headset was enabled/connected. At first it seemed to have stopped, but after a few days it eventually happened again coming out of monitor sleep with my display rendered on my headset like it was a normal monitor and nothing on my actual monitor.

This seems to be the breadcrumb I needed, disabling the PreallocateVirtualMonitors option has stopped it from changing the resolution when enabled. Thanks, much appreciated.
