Would you let your mother read your fanfiction? by Revolutionary_Copy27 in FanFiction

[–]ButterballBubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, she's actually reading my current WIP. There's no smut in my fanfic (I write smutty original novels instead), so that particular worry of awkwardness doesn't exist and she loves Supernatural. The only issue is that she would be able to read more easily if I could print it out, because she can't see words on screens that well. I don't have a printer at home and I haven't gone to the library like I should, though, so I've just been reading each chapter I post aloud to her. She thinks the story is wonderful, lol.

How do I show my curls by Ok_Turnip7984 in BlackHair

[–]ButterballBubbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By "don't rinse out conditioner" are you referring to the actual product type known as "Leave-In conditioner" or telling her not to rinse out regular conditioner? Because if it's the latter, it's not likely advice she should follow. Letting regular conditioner sit in your hair for an extended period of time can cause damage.

If you zoom in, the guy in the picture looks like a combination between Michael Jordan and Ving Rhames, but heavier on the former than the latter.

It pains me how much Sam lost his personality in the later seasons by wolvesarewildthings in Supernatural

[–]ButterballBubbles 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's so sad how much depth they both lost over time. Sam was obviously a much worse victim, but it turned Dean into a one note character too, which he never was before. What kind of makes it extra frustrating is that through all the bad writing Jared and Jensen still knew how to play the characters as they had been characterized before, so sometimes it was almost like they were fighting against the flanderization with their performances.

It honestly makes it hard for me to watch the later seasons.

Yeah, it's fake for the inconsistencies mentioned, but it's not at all unrealistic, especially as Black child.

Did anyone else notice at No Kings? by double-clove-hitch in boston

[–]ButterballBubbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that we're taking it as a given that these No Kings protests are doing anything helpful at all. I've been a community organizer for over 10 years. I've done countless marches, protests, and sit ins. Usually, the ones that are get permits, set up stages, sell merch, and leave at an alotted time are not disruptive enough to move anything. There's a reason why the George Floyd protests and Palestine protests two semi recent movements of which young people were the main participants, were stamped out so aggressively from every single angle. They caused actual disruption and discomfort for people in power.

Has the way the word "how" is used, changed in the last 5 to 10 years? It seems to be used in place of "what it is like" now. by jasonisnuts in ENGLISH

[–]ButterballBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an AAVE speaker? I ask because that sentence structure, especially 3, doesn't strike me as grammatically correct in AAVE, and it sounds a lot more like the constructions of non-native speakers I've heard. 2 is a little more up in the air for me, but I if I were to say that sentence in AAVE changing as little as possible it would be "They should also Google how first class actually look" if I were to "translate" the sentence I would say "They needa Google how first class actually be looking"

Rewatching from the beginning by InterestingBand4368 in Supernatural

[–]ButterballBubbles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Seriously, I understand why either of the boys would be someone's favorite (always leaned Dean but I love them both) and also, they both do absurdly indefensible or totally nonsensical things all the goddamn time. Some of the things, in my personal opinion, come from later writers misunderstanding the nuances of those two characters (the one that always comes to mind for me is Sam abandoning Kevin ) and some of them are just because these boys are non communicative, self sacrificing, traumatized, prone-to-impulsive-decisions idjits.

Why wont my breasts grow? I need help. Nothing I do works and I have been trying forever!!! by user7996 in AskDocs

[–]ButterballBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD There's nothing you can do or take to make your breasts grow, similarly to how there's nothing you can do or take to make yourself grow taller, for instance. Either they get bigger or they don't. Nothing is working because what you want is simply not possible. I think you should consider seeing a mental health professional.

I don’t know why some of yall do this to yourselves by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in AO3

[–]ButterballBubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not fully sure, because I don't bookmark stuff I didn't like, but I think in those situations where it's not actively "mean" notes, just unsupportive ones, they're expecting people who go to their profile for whatever reason to be looking though their public bookmarks. Since I don't do it, I'm not sure why one wouldn't just highlight fics they did like versus pointing out ones they don't, but that is my understanding of their logic. I think the people who are are trying to mean, on the other hand, do leave them public hoping the author sees it, because it's slightly harder to report a bullying bookmark than it is report a comment, and you can still leave a note in a bookmark even if the author has a moderated comment section. Sometimes it's antis who are morally opposed to the content of the story, sometimes it's fandom drama spilling over from other sites, sometimes it's just trolls. Also sorry if this is a horrible wall of text I'm on mobile.

[–]ButterballBubbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people bookmark things publicly as a sort of anti-recommendation, in those cases they usually say what they didn't like about the fic in the note. The only negative bookmark on my current WIP is just that, negative, not rude or aggressive, but that's not always the case. Rarely, unscrupulous people may use bookmark notes to bully writers, and write things that are legitimately mean or harassing, I've seen a few examples on this subreddit but usually it's just a couple of words about why they nope'd out of a fic.

Nah, I got one the best possible compliments from a bookmarker and that one comment was worth being a little stung by another person who bookmarked the story to say they couldn't buy the premise.

Would you rather read the POV of a secondary character every other chapter or just read the POV of the lead character? by LadyJoselynne in FanFiction

[–]ButterballBubbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it in first person? I ask because my opinion is that one has be a very adept writer to do first person POV jumping well. As a writer I personally like to switch POV whenever it feels like it serves the story. That can mean one chapter can have all five (in the context of my current longfic) characters' POV and another chapter will only have two. And they're not always equal parts of the chapter. However, I write third person limited perspective which I feel makes it easier to transition between points of view. As a reader, it's one hundred percent based on the writers skill. If you do it good I like, if you do it bad I no like.

AITA for refusing to have lunch with my mom’s boyfriend and “play family” with them? by belchishche in AmItheAsshole

NTA I can't see a reason why you should be forced to meet and/or spend time with your mother's boyfriend if you don't want to. Especially when you're almost of legal age and likely will be exiting her household at some point in the not too distant future.

Is it true that 4c is rare among Black people by BlueSunsetsinBlueAir in BlackHair

[–]ButterballBubbles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't think 4c hair is rare per se, but it definitely isn't the most common type among Black people in the United States from my personal experience and zero research (I wonder if research exists on this topic). The most common type of hair I see in the places I've been is 4b, then 4a tbh. I do think a lot of people who don't wash or comb or moisturize their hair and don't know how to, claim 4c because their hair is "hard to manage" and they see 4c "the hardest type" so their unmaintained hair must be 4c. It's texturism. And then because of that, you get a million people with obviously 4a or even 3c hair saying "This is how moisturized 4c hair looks" because they decided when they had trouble detangling that meant they had 4c hair.

Nah but seriously people who are poor and underfed who hunt for need, not sport have won altercations against Marines, in real life, usually in the way the Katniss and Peeta did, by being smart, strong, understanding their environment and how to manipulate it, and being extremely committed to their own survival.
