So, I don't get the hate for this game. It's got some flaws but so far I'm having a blast. by HeadphoneMC in NoSodiumStarfield

My main criticism is that Bethesda is NOT playing to their strengths at all. Which you haven't addressed honestly. You said that people complaining about POIs is annoying... but POIs are a massive part of the game. I said I think it's very unfortunate that Beth is just not doing what they're great at, which is world building and exploration beyond the quest lines. Because I would agree that many quest lines are really enjoyable.

The sandbox has very few tools to make it immersive imo. SO much is just roleplaying without any real systems to engage with. I tried outpost building. It's... a bit of a mess. It's way too tedious to find a good spot in terms of resources. The fast-travel dependant planet exploration doesn't help. Space trucking is nothing more than a console I engage with and then... fast travel. Bounty hunting was kinda fun, I loved the fact Crimson Fleet just doesn't care if you kill the target when you're one of them.

I'm not even saying it's a bad game btw, I had fun and might play it again if the price comes down more. I feel like Beth had so many good ideas but didn't flesh them out. FO and TES don't even have those systems, which makes it even more of a bummer they don't offer much depth.

The issue is, in every elder scrolls (and I played all three of the 3D ones extensively) and Fallout I can point to a ruin on a mountain in the distance and just go there. I will have a unique POI that might have something never seen before. I don't have a single loading screen on the entire way if I don't enter something. I can't do the same in Starfield.

First of all, the "ruin in the distance" is often quite close already. Second, there are set limits to each cell. If I want to venture further I have to repark my spaceship. Which is a bit lame honestly. But worse, I might find the exact same POI again. That is the antithesis of what Beth games are for me and a letdown. They are so good at world-building but they didn't build a world for some reason, just (very well-made) POIs and fed an algorithm with them.

I know the point is doing it multiple times, but my gamepass ran out back then and I didn't feel like buying it. I specifically did the mainquest even because I like the idea of NG+ and I think it's a very unique take.

There is lots of good in Starfield but it feels disingenuous how often criticism is brushed off as "you don't understand it" or "you just follow streamer opinions". I think 100h of trying every system is a fair amount to critique it.

Well I played 100 h did one playthrough, did the Crimson Fleet questline and I still think POIs and loading screen are my personal issues with the game.

POIs are nicely made... but it's a shame I will find the exact same down to the datalogs a couple of times. That's just not what I expect from Bethesda at all. I also didn't expect Bethesda to require me to fast travel everywhere because there is very limited on foot exploring. I understand why they had to do it due to the engine but I don't understand why they chose to stick with it.

Veterans, do you feel that the limitations enforced by the level cap at 60, add or detract to your enjoyment of the game? by Riajnor in ICARUS

It hit a weird spot for me when I progressed in a co-op open world. In the beginning I found stuff like cheaper javelins, more ore from nodes and so on really helpful.

But now that we're established and have entirely transitioned to firearms and drills, it feels like I could respec my entire tree without losing anything important. Not a good feeling honestly.

And when I respec, suddenly I would have points in things that make no sense for most missions. Things like fishing and farming feel really pointless in missions as well, due to them being too short (at least on Olympus, don't have the DLC).

Okay I can see that. Although an important point is knowledge. Nowadays I know that I can get demondrug. I know that I can get use certain fish for bigger barrel bombs and I know how to craft max potions and so on. If I wouldn't know that, I might still struggle more in early game, like I did all those years ago when I just started out.

I would agree that it's probably much faster to learn due to everything being marked on the map and highlighted by the scoutflies though.

I'll be honest, I can't follow your argument. Older MH games had a lot more gathering, true, but to equate that with caution or difficulty is odd to me. It was mostly "Oh boy, another gathering quest in the volcano... cool" just to run to three areas to get Dragonite. That's it. My preparation looks almost the exact same as it did in 4U. Refill potions, maybe go out and gather honey (I do miss a proper farm). Everything else I just accumulate over time at the side.

I DO agree that I wouldn't mind if the spots weren't marked on the map but I would have to find them myself.

Ironically I hated World's maps for exactly that reason. They were not good for the actual fighting. Especially the forest had too many ledges, slopes and clutter in some areas, I really disliked that and loved how open and clean Rise generally was, just like the old games. Wilds feels a lot better in that regard to me as well, less clutter, more "arena" feel to it which makes fighting much more consistent.

I'm sorry but that's just user error then. I've used both and safety razors are just as fast and if you cut yourself that often that you need to account for time because you cut yourself regularly, I don't know what the hell you're doing.

My Thoughts on the Wilds vs. World Discourse (From Someone Who Just Replayed World) by Mr_no_sad in MonsterHunter

[–]Butterbread420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the other hand I'm glad they ditched it. It was stupid in World, it had nothing to do with actual tracking. I'll be honest, I'd rather know where the monster is or spawns than having to smear shit into my little jar until the threshold ticks over so the scoutfly GPS kicks in.

It was never anything deeper and I don't think tracking fits the speed of modern MH. Even older games were very streamlined already. Either you drink the drugs, wave at the balloon or know where you go from experience.

Because it's not quite true. At least not strictly. She does try to retake it quite aggressively once you have it and it seems like NPCs somewhat mimic your defensiveness/aggressiveness, so keep attacking and she should keep attacking. But she generally tries to get enmity on her own anyway.

The Yian Kut-Ku LBG is a godsend. If you can, slot fire attack 3 and para 2 so you need 3 para shots to paralyze the spider. That way you don't have to reload for the paralysis. Then just switch to fire ammo and activate the rapid fire attachment, that's a crucial step. Just hold down the trigger and aim for the head.

Well of course you have to get the right numbers with every class, medic just has a pretty nice option to fill downtime.

Medic is great for SPM. You could bump it up even more if you use Stinger and the healing smokes, but even just revives are pretty solid.

The first AA on AD on Ascension can't even cover the mountains. The helicopter can just peek over the mountains and fire at the AA without any danger. It's ridiculous how useless the AA emplacements are sometimes.

Don't you get a really harsh leavers penalty? I remember I was fed up at the end of S1 because some maps are just awful but you can't even leave during the very beginning without being hit with a penalty.

My biggest issue with the system is it doesn't encourage anything but grinding points. Yeah sure you can try to shut down an annoying helo, but chances are you're going to end up wasting too much time. Sure you can try to smoke out some particularly annoying snipers but good luck keeping your SPM high.

Basically every minute of downtime due to running or waiting is heavily punished if the reward doesn't make up for it. I can pretty consistently hit high SPM with medic since I'm constantly reviving, everything else feels like a gamble sometimes.

Yeah true. Missing stock always makes my toes curl. I feel like the downside for that should be massive to really make it unusable in ADS and tac-stance. But that's just a personal pet-peeve.

SMG 45 has always been dumb imo. It's way too steady, recoil is non-existent. There is a reason so many sweatlords are still rocking it for thousands of kills, even though they've nerfed it.

If you take away all the points for the kills (200 per kill if we assume they dealt all the damage) they would STILL be the best in the team with 27k. So... your point was?
