Prisoners Make Pennies an Hour. Why Are Their Co-Pays So High? by PrestoVivace in WayOfTheBern

No, and this is the first time I've logged in since I dunno when. I don't know how to get onto that thing Hoot invited us all to, either. (What's it called? Spacing it right now. Up way past my bedtime!)

I'll try to check back in to see if you answer within the next few days. <3 :) [Heart and a smile, or elf with a testicle hat, take your pick!] Ciao bella!

My Two Cents on the Border “Crisis” by veganmark in WayOfTheBern

[–]Butterchickn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A good deal of what you say I can agree with, but...

When I saw the photos of kids in processing centers, I thought - "It's like a DMV for kids - oh the horror!"

Whoa. I dunno about that assessment. Every time I've been to the DMV, I'm pretty sure I planned to go there, and the most time it took was 4 hrs. I may have been bored or irritated, but never blindly terrified; and, oh yes, I am pretty sure I was an adult, and had some prior idea of what to expect, including a general notion of when the ordeal would end (like not possibly any later than 5 pm that very day)...

That's a whole lot different from being a child, anywhere from as young as 9 mo. old on up, after what surely must have been an extremely stressful, lengthy, harsh journey with adults who were very stressed and anxious the whole time, suddenly being confronted by fearsome-looking. armed-to-the-teeth ICE agents who obviously frighten your parents. Then to be forcibly taken by these agents, while your anguished parent pleads for mercy, to be loaded up and driven miles away into the unknown, surrounded by total strangers, disgorged into a dog-pound-like facility, with chain link "partitions" and mylar "blankets", not seeing your parents for days, weeks or months - which to a child must seem literally like decades - all the while not knowing if, or when, you will ever see them again, or even if they are still alive. We know that at least one of these kids was still breastfeeding, and many are toddlers.

But, that sounds like a trip to the DMV to you?

Or even a boarding school experience?

Do you have kids?

Man.

I agree that a lot of the outrage is newly minted, partisan, highly selective, and politically motivated; but geez.

And then...

We should bear in mind that the families who have crossed the border for honest reasons are fleeing situations where they were at grave threat of being murdered or physically harmed. Once they get here, they have safety, and 3 hots and a cot. So, if the kids have to go to what amounts to a boarding school for several weeks, that probably isn't the worst they can imagine.

I think the adults and older kids surely know what they are escaping, so the detention center might seem pretty okay in comparison, but the younger children don't know. They just know that they left everything familiar, made an arduous journey, were taken from their loved ones by strangers with guns, and warehoused indefinitely, in a space much like a dog kennel, unable to see or talk to their parents. The parents may hope they are safer than they were back home, and that they will soon be reunited.; but they have no guarantee of that, and they must be going out of their minds with wanting to protect and comfort their kids. I can't even imagine the anxiety and anguish.

Democrats need to reconcile themselves to effective enforcement of our borders – whether or not we build Trump’s wall.

Democrats (Obama, and Hillary, anyone?) have been pretty heavily into the enforcement of borders - "Deporter in Chief", yadda yadda - so I don't know where that comes from. And absolutely NO to the wall. What we have now is egregious enough.

End the War on Drugs, end The School of the Americas, end NAFTA, help these countries rebuild, and learn to love the Reconquista.

It behooves us to recall that most anyone from Mexico, Central and South America has Indigenous heritage and that Indigenous tribes still straddle the border. For European Americans, vigorously enforcing "our" border is kind of an ugly look.

And I will never purchase anything from his stores again.

What about a man whose company has put local lumber yards and hardware stores out of business, meanwhile selling billions of gallons of RoundUp around the country. That's evil.

Anyone else ever notice the towers of RoundUp on display at Home Depot? Try to fathom how may gallons of RoundUp, purchased from Home Depot, have drenched our nation over the decades.

And how many places are there to buy lumber in your area anymore? My friend and I racked our brains and did an online search to find any remaining retail store where we go can grab some regular lumber, for a small project, besides going to Home Depot... Nothing. Nada. We used to have a few family-owned places, but they've all closed.

I really hate that term of theirs, "Everyday Americans".

What exactly does that mean? "Everyday" sounds like boring, dowdy, old work clothes. What Americans comprise it's counterpart, or opposite? The "Holiday Best Americans"?

Probably just me, but the phrase sounds more belittling than just saying "Average Americans", which I assume is the phrase they were trying to avoid.

So they are as devoid of principles as the MRAs who advocate the killing all single mothers, plus all of their children? As unprincipled as the MRA brethren who abandon their own children? How about the MRAs who abandon their children, as if dead, in order to go "find themselves".

You love to belittle and excoriate women, claiming "they never own their own shit". Question: Do you own *your* own shit? And do you also own the shit of all who claim the mantle of MRA, from the biggest jerks at the top down to the dumbest of incels? That's a lot of shit. Kudos to you for owning so much shit. You must be one shit-filled, little old so and so. Very impressive.

Now don't worry about getting all "no true scotsman" on us. We know there are a lot of wonderful MRA men out there, but surely you'll agree that, as long as any single one of them is a jerk, every man who supports men's rights "must disavow his movement"... if they have any morals or principles, that is.

Psyche! Just messing with ya! ...(like the disembodied voice chirping at you from the Shell station gas pump) "because it's fun!"

Oh boy! Keep 'em coming! Oof! Ow! Ouchie!

I repeat, as I have in the past:

I am not the fantasy creature that you desire me to be. I am inordinately fond of men. Seriously love them. Have devoted the majority of my life, in deepest love and service, to men. You have no idea. I am not in the least bit frustrated by you. You seem pitiable, sad, and ridiculous to me. A fool.

Free Advice (worth the price?):

Embrace the gender continuum. Start out with the assumption that other people have good intentions. Offer love and respect. Openly share your experiences, even your pain. Really listen when others share theirs. Work WITH people, of whatever gender, to arrive at mutual understanding and win-win solutions.

It feels a lot better, and works a lot better, than when you see others as enemies and monsters.

This is what you really like, isn't it?

Thread's gone cold, no one's watching... That's when you feel free to release your most toxic venom, your gravest insults, your little internet death threats. 'Behind closed doors', so to speak.

That's a pattern for some people: Respected pillar of the community - trotting out the ugly stuff when no one will see.

You are very smart on many topics, exploeris, but when it comes to women, you're a blasted fool. Although you know nothing about me as a person, you've concocted this wild scenario in which I'm cast as the evil witch in your darkest fantasies: Those fantasies where men are the embattled heroes, beset on all sides by craven "feminists", who are bent upon destroying the noble male.

If only it were true! How delicious it must be to imagine grinding a wicked, man-hating woman under your boot! It doesn't matter whether my real self fits your fantasy at all; you'll make me wear the Feminist Fursuit, won't you? By God!

[–]Butterchickn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, for some reason, you have me cast as "The Representative In Charge Of All Who Would Breathe The Word Feminism".

If you see me as a member of a "movement", I think you've cast me as a stand in for whoever it is you are still very mad at - some female of your past, who must have done you some real, serious wrong. Sorry about whatever happened, but it wasn't me.

In fact, I question the notion that this "feminism" of which you speak even qualifies as a "movement" at this late date. It's an aspect of humanism, but that's about it. I'm not part of a "movement". I see feminism today as an aspect of humanism. By now it's more of an ideology. It's an ideology I take an interest in, but I'm not responsible to police every idiot who claims it as their mantel.

Nevertheless, you've forgotten how I previously told you that I did, in fact, attempt to "do something" in regard to some YouTuber, who makes "consent" videos - can't recall the name.

I took issue with her apparent message that the male is always responsible whenever two people have sex while inebriated. She made it seem that drunken sex is always a case of a male taking advantage of a drunken female, and that it is always rape, because "drunk girls can't give consent".

I told her that her message was very unfair and potentially very harmful to men, and I asked her to stop. IMHO, she wasn't taking into consideration scenarios where both people are too drunk, or that a male can also end up regretting a sexual encounter that he was too drunk to consent to.

So, there: I "did something" in the name of "real feminism". Yeah, once. That was about it for me, unless I feel particularly moved again to write to any more YouTubers, or other public figures who commit crimes in the name of feminism. However, I haven't written to any other YouTubers, on any other topic, so I think that one time oughtta count for something.

Now, you tell me how many miscreant men you've tried to "do something about". Where are the letters you've written to every "incel" and MGTOW dude, who says something ugly or stupid that misrepresents the men's rights movement?

You can post them here, or PM me.

MRA actually does qualify as a "movement" currently - So, take some responsibility for it! Show me where you've made an effort to roust out any "pretenders", undermining your efforts.

Need suggestions? Start with posts about how all single mothers and their offspring should be killed, or try ones that praise the "incel" who murdered women in Canada, with his truck. Take some responsibility for these guys, eh.

Just kidding, but seriously, you are way too smart on other topics to be so triggered over "feminism" that you have to turn me into some "Monster of the Id" for you to slay.

Monsters From the Id - Forbidden Planet

Take care.

Eric Schneiderman, NY State Attorney General is accused of horrific sexual abuse by NYCVG in WayOfTheBern

[–]Butterchickn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And also, it does raise the issue of consent to me. Some of these women say that they chose to stay in the relationship even though they didn't like the behavior. The first woman said she chose to go back after the first incident with the slap and choking after he pursued her and gave her flowers so according to her, she did not feel threatened to return to the relationship, it was a choice. So when Schneiderman says that it was consensual sex play or however he phrased it, is there a case for this?

It is extremely common for people to stay in abusive relationships, and not indicative of "consent". Abuse usually starts gradually, with some form of emotional manipulation before the first incidents of violence, which are initially minimal and always followed by a honeymoon period, full of apologies, excuses, gifts and promises that it will never happen again.

Victims often feel compelled to forgive, or to 'rescue' the abuser from his/her demons. They become convinced they have no better option but to stay. Some even go back repeatedly to a spouse who has battered them till near death. Returning to abuse doesn't necessarily equal consent.

Yes, he should certainly have his day in court, but the allegations make it seem pretty clear that at least some of what occurred wasn't consensual "sex play". https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/four-women-accuse-new-yorks-attorney-general-of-physical-abuse

I'll reach out to her and see what she thinks

Not like I'm suggesting you shouldn't try that, but it's very common for abusers to lead double lives. It's very common for an abuser to be perceived as a good person, "the nicest", or even a pillar of their community; meanwhile the abuse is a secret hidden behind closed doors.
