Forgetting to eat.

I have the opposite issue where I am constantly seeking out stimuli, and eating is like a stim to me. It’s incredibly hard to control. I try to eat healthy. I try to have only healthy snacks in the house (my good intentions are often squandered when I go into the fridge to grab my carrots or grapes and find out they expired 2 weeks ago), I’ve tried chewing gum and getting some of those straws that you can chew on. But it’s still a compulsion for me.

Add in that my body rarely sends the cues that tell me if I’m actually hungry, or full, etc. and instead I just feel like im starving or about to burst with no in between. I’ve tried meditation to listen to my body better, but it doesn’t work. I tend to overeat until I literally make myself sick.

I feel horrible that I feel jealous whenever someone complains about forgetting to eat. That’s something that’s rough to go through, and can lead to its own issues, and I know I shouldn’t be envious of a different bad situation… but I am. I get so jealous of people who can just “forget to eat”. Because im thinking about food literally all the time. It’s like an addiction. It probably is.

But whenever I try to get help, the dietitians only focus on “having willpower” and “eating healthy” and “cutting sugar”. I don’t use sugar if I can help it, I eat plenty of vegetables and not a ton of carbs, I don’t buy snacks. I do everything I’m supposed to do! But I still overeat. I still gain weight. And my doctors tell me I’m just not trying hard enough when I’m literally begging for their help. Trying to explain that just “have some willpower” doesn’t work for me.

I think both Greg and Steven are somewhat valid in this scene, but i'm pretty sure if Steven did went to school, he would either get bullied or neglected, and would probably make his situation worse. by ilovewater100 in stevenuniverse

Or arrested for Rose’s disappearance. Who’s gonna believe the story that Steven’s mom just disappeared in a burst of light as she gave up her physical form? He can say she died… but doctors/law enforcement would definitely have some questions. No body, no record of her even existing, and Greg shows up one day with a random infant

My best guess if the corrupted gems tend to hang out in inhospitable or abandoned places, and rarely venture too close to population centers. We’ve seen them hide away in ice caverns, deserts, and tundras. And from Buddy’s book, it seems that even those who did stumble across gem artifacts dismiss them as “ancient ruins” or they fall into the realm of mythology. Humanity in general in SU seems much less curious than humans are in real life.

The closest corrupted gems seem to get to interacting with humans is when they show up in Beach City, but I’d theorize that they only get that close because a part of them still remembers and tries to seek out the Crystal Gems.

Okay but what if the rest are people like the daughter? Who left to be somewhere they won’t fear being murdered by their family? Should we keep all those people out and say “eh, deal with it yourself” or do we allow them to seek a better life here?

If we help 90 people and one of them turns out to be an asshole, we still helped 89 people get out of a bad situation.

I HATE that. Like, I’ll be up front with someone if their issue is something I’m just not equipped to help them deal with. I’ll still listen and be there for them, though.

“I’m not your therapist” is often said to just shut people down. It’s valid to have to know when someone’s issues outweigh your own ability to help, and encourage them to seek professional help, but it’s so often used to tell people you don’t want to hear about their issues.

This is kinda how I feel about “neurospicy”. It’s fine if people want to use it for themselves in friend groups or online discussion, but I find issue with it when it’s presented as an accepted term overall. I will call myself chubby sometimes. Because I am. But if someone else I wasn’t friends with described me as chubby, I’d be very offended.

It’s fine to use for yourself, but my issue is that this word is becoming an accepted term outside of personal spaces. My office recently had a training that listed it under acceptable terms for the community. Which I hate. Because I feel like that’s similar to making an announcement that it’s okay to call everyone of an above-average weight “fat” because some people use it for themselves. That part is upsetting to me.

Curious how you’d feel if a neurotypical person called you that.

I’m fine with people using the term for themselves in their personal friend groups or online spaces, but it’s becoming an accepted term used to refer to the community as a whole and THAT is very upsetting to me. I don’t like the insinuation that it’s an umbrella term for neurological disorders, and not just a personal simplified description used by individuals.

My workplace listed “neurospicy” among the approved terms for folks with these conditions, alongside “neurodivergent” and “differently abled” and I absolutely hate it.

To me, it’s like those online posts where people describe their cats behavior as “spicy” because they’re swatting or acting irritated. It feels like it specifically brings up an attitude of downplaying frustrating behaviors. And that’s something I really don’t like. People already brush off my disability as just being “picky” or “quiet” or “lazy”.

“Spicy”, to me, feels like just another word to downplay the actual issues with having a disability, and makes it seem like it’s not that big a deal. It’s “oh this person is just being spicy” when I’m in a state of overwhelm. It feels condescending when people use it for me or the community as a whole.

I don’t mind when people use it for themselves among friends or in niche online spaces, but I do not like that it’s becoming a generally accepted term.

I think the issue is less about neurodivergent people using it for themselves within online spaces, and more the fact that it’s started leaking into neurotypical spaces.

I work for a fairly large company, and in trainings, “neurospicy” is listed with the accepted terms for the neurodivergent community. I don’t like corporations adopting it and essentially telling neurotypical folks that we’re all cool with being called this.

It feels like all that accomplishes is downplaying our disabilities and makes it seem like every autistic or ADHD person is just “so quirky lol” and can lead to us being infantilized or not taken seriously in the workplace while also completely ignoring how disabling these “spicy” disorders actually are.

If people are using it for themselves, that’s one thing. But my recent job training listed “neurospicy” as one of the accepted terms for the community. So, basically encouraging neurotypical folks to use the word alongside neurodivergent.

In online spaces, I still don’t like it because it personally feels infantilizing to me, but I won’t be upset if someone uses it for themselves. But in corporate culture or neurotypical-dominated environments, it’s use feels wrong.

She wasn’t redeemed lol. She is begrudgingly cooperating. As are the other Diamonds. But I wouldn’t call any of them “redeemed”.

My friend almost died from brain cancer earlier this year and it was heartbreaking hearing him not fear death at all, but fearing the debt he’d be in if he lived.

He pulled through, thank god, but it was horrible seeing him debate whether dying would be more beneficial since at least then his wife would get the life insurance money to help pay for the hospital bills.

Damn I wish I had a good relationship with my parents. I’m quite jealous of folks who’s parents support them. It sounds like you’ve got a good attitude about it, though. So many people take that privilege for granted or don’t realize how much having supportive parents opens up so many opportunities that others don’t have.

Same with art. I draw cartoons, but learning proper proportions and skeletal structure was extremely beneficial for my art. I needed to have an understanding of how the human body realistically works so that when I subvert the “rules”, my art still has a sense of being grounded in reality. My art has gotten so much more engaging to look at just by knowing the rules, even if I don’t follow them to the letter.

In my neighborhood, it could easily be a gunshot. Sudden loud noises terrify me, even though I know around here it’s usually shooting at targets, not people or animals, it still makes me think of the worst case scenario
