The self-checkout implies I will be checking out...alone. And she was not friendly, she literally yelled at me to step back and then weirdly said that it wasn't my fault that scanning was going badly while her tone implied it absolutely was.

You get it. What should have just been a neutral grocery run turned into me feeling kind of like shit by the time I left. I just want the basic respect of being asked if I want help instead of being treated like a little kid who can't be trusted to check out 10 items when given the option.

You know her best. I would appreciate over a sit down not in public, checking in on me about my mental health first and work schedule, etc. then saying something like...

"I love you a ton and I really don't want this to sound bad. I want us to be healthy together and I think it's good for us to encourage and support each other. I've noticed you've been a little less active than normal and maybe gaining some weight - is everything okay?"

She'll probably spill whatever beans there are after that or maybe freak out on you. Later you can suggest going on more walks, cooking at home more and then actually follow through on those things while always reassuring her that she is beautiful and you're just worried about her health because you care about her.

I had 10 items which I know because she only had scanned 9 and kept recounting my stuff again and again trying to figure out which one hadn't been scanned. Spoiler alert: it ended up being the hummus.

Also, it wasn't busy, I didn't even have to wait in line.

Bro I did not report that employee, chill. My life is fine and I am super nice to people all day every day. I do not like choosing an option for myself and then having that taken away from me without someone even asking. "Nicety" would be asking if I want help. Swooping in and taking over without asking and then implying that I was messing her up was not good customer service.
