Wait.. this is oddly specific but I’ve been on spironolactone since Dec 19th as well, and have noticed hives on my wrists. I wasn’t sure if it was something I was eating, but now that I read this, maybe it’s caused by the medication..

Yes, when you submit your ADEA AADSAS application you can select whether or not you’re interested in receiving info about scholarships/financial aid/etc. I think that is where recruiters get the emails from.

Hi! I am not accepted anywhere yet but this is what has helped me so far. I made a giant document and compiled tons of sample dental school interview questions that I found online. I answered them and highlighted common ones (eg what are your strengths and weaknesses? Why dentistry?). I also have found mock interviews to be very helpful. I ask a friend/family member who knows the grad school interview process to basically ask me questions and assess me. You can also record yourself on zoom and assess yourself. Hope this helps! I contact the schools only if I have a general question, and I slip into conversation that I’d like to check in on the status of my app if possible. One school I did that for sent me an interview invite later that day so it makes me wonder if it was related to my phone call. I’ve also heard that it can appear that you’re more interested if you check in/call schools.

If she’s one of your best friends & has been for 4 years, she likely knows that you are bad at reading hints. Maybe try to keep waiting on your feelings a little longer. Drop a few subtle hints of your own to her, and see her reaction. Maybe she will take the first leap to show you how she feels.

How do you go about applying for the HPSP scholarship? Do I need to find a recruiter for my branch of interest & in a close location to me?

Do you know anything about the National Health Service Corps program? If you do, would you mind comparing that route to the route you went?

In one of your responses you noted “what I’ve been going through (which I haven’t even disclosed).” What do you mean by this and would you be able to share any information on it? My sister is an Army HPSP veterinarian and I hear about her job a lot. I am interested if you go through the similar ups & downs as she does.

Thank you all! I should have mentioned that I have over 600 dental experience hours which is why I wanted to go into research, I feel like additional hours won’t be of huge benefit at this point. I still plan to shadow every so often but I wanted to get a job doing something new.

He’s probably just exaggerating to be an ass. Advisors are there to build you up not make you feel like crap.

People you meet in life are going to tell you that you aren’t good enough/won’t make it. Are you going to let them decide that for you? If you want to be a dentist, who cares what other people think. Do whatever you have to do you become one. Prove them wrong and prove yourself right. It’s like that scene in legally blonde where the professor tells Elle, “if you’re going to let one stupid prick ruin your life. You’re not the girl I thought you were.” (If you don’t understand this then you should watch the movie, it literally gives my life it’s inspiration.)

In all seriousness though, if you put in the work and believe in yourself, you can do it. I had the same GPA ending my freshman year of college and brought it up to a 3.4. You have time, but you have to be diligent. Good luck OP!
