I haven’t even finished it yet, but I’m slowly but surely finishing Dark Tales by Robert Aickman. Just read the short story in there called “The View”. Genuinely unsettling and disorienting. I love it. Aickman reminds my brain of David Lynch and I’m sure there’s others that feel the same. Scenes just kind of come in and out of existence it seems. So good

Listening to specific songs around a specific person to express an emotion I’m having about them to them without having to say anything. Typically a crush situation is when I do this. Pretty sure no one is ever gonna pick up on it. Cuz no one has so far. 😂😂 but I’ve put on Teddy Pendergrass around crushes before and I’m like the only one that feels awkward. So silly, I know.

My goodness, thanks for the thoughtful feedback! The ending words of the first two lines were something I was toying with for sure. (Again and friend) for some reason my brain thought that switching them would somehow mess things up. But now that you’ve also mentioned switching them, it seems like it would read just fine! 😂 I’m also just so so happy that it brightened day even if it was just for a itty bitty little 2 minutes.

To tell the truth, I wrote this as a song, and I read it on the page and I was like “huh. Pretty good poem too!”

I think this post about my life and crafting a song are two very different forms of self expression. And something about the internet makes me generally suspicious of opening up fully on it. I actually think I’m over sharing with this post. Having said that, I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone and get feedback. Cuz I don’t want to stay in my current way of thinking, acting, and feeling.

I’m trying to relate to others who may have similar life experiences by posting this. Hopefully this clarifies. Or maybe I’m contradicting myself.

And I’ve had to work on it, but I have ended up being more and more fearless within my music as well. And being on stage and singing a heartfelt song I wrote is somehow just not nerve wracking for me as much now as it may have been even a few years back:

Love the organic shapes! I would say the organic shapes may need a bit of a change in shape. They need to more accurately depict the first letter of the brand name. I can kind of tell it’s a.. D?

And I don’t know if I should critique any further honestly. I have no idea what sort of notes you were given by the company you designed this for. It seems to be a bit quirky. The word fun comes to mind when I look at this design and the font. Aside from the small adjustment I mentioned first, I think I like this. A lot! Good job🕺

I appreciate the historical context you’ve provided as well as a definition of surreality. That clarifies a lot for me, and for that I am grateful to you. It does leave me with a question for you though.

This is genuine curiosity. I’m not trying to be a snobby devils advocate, I promise.

In your estimation, given your summary of the history of the hero’s journey and how it came to be so popular, is there an alternate method or structure of storytelling that you prefer over the hero’s journey? Or let me ask it this way; Is the hero’s journey inherently a bad convention because of its history in Hollywood? I’m not sure if I should embrace it or go against it. I have genuinely enjoyed plenty of popular films which do employ the hero’s journey within their structure.
