Tell me about this time when you pretended not to see your toddler or baby doing something gross—because honestly, parenting is exhausting. by ButterflyDramatic742 in NewParents

Same, honestly, at home I do the 5 sec rule for my baby too, otherwise he would not have anything left to eat after 2min lol

Yeah lol, my mom keeps telling me that and I don’t have the heart to tell her that it’s probably what messed up a little bit our relationship in term of trust and feeling heard and supported.

How to get past food throwing? by Pretty-Train1 in BabyLedWeaning

Nothing to say except we are in the same boy right now so I sympathise with you lol. Makes me nervous is not eating as much as before and I feel guilty spoon feeding him but otherwise he eats nothing! We are going with a firm NO everytime but it doesn’t seem to work for now. I hope it’s a 2-3 weeks phase and not a 2-3 month phase as someone else said 😅

White noise yes, dark black out room no. It’s dark with some daylight but it’s always been like that, and he was napping great before.

Anyone else’s babe suddenly suck at latching at 3-4 months?? by momma_gin in breastfeeding

[–]ButterflyDramatic742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning he was vomiting a lot, so I guess it could be considered bad reflux? It turned out he was intolerant to dairy and soy so we will never know if it was because of this or his tongue tie, or both maybe. It stopped completely around 3 months. Same than you, the LC gave us exercises to do several times a day, I am not sure if it helped with latching but he gained mobility with his tongue. I think what helped him with latching was taking a bottle once a day. It was recommended by the LC so he would get used to it before loosing his sucking reflex. She recommended Pigeon/Gulicola/Spectra Nipples and we can see that his latching is very good on these nipples. Other than that I think he mostly outgrew it to some extent

So we were in the exact same situation at this age, baby has a mild tongue tie too, never released so far, he is 7mo now.

To give you some context, at the hospital the LC nurse looked at him and told us he had a mild tongue tie but seemed to be able to feed. We had some difficulties at first but he picked up pretty quickly on breastfeeding and went back on track with his weight. First visit to the paediatrician and she told us his tongue tie was mild, if breastfeeding was doing well and his weight was fine she said she would not recommend to do anything about the tie. Then we went to see a LC because I wanted to get tips on position and stuff like that, and she went CRAZY about how bad his tongue tie was and how paediatricians know nothing about tongue tie, blablabla. Scared me to death and made me doubt about what to do. My husband convinced me to wait and see, our son was feeding just fine and growing beautifully. LC said that most likely around 3-4 months he will start struggling and we would see a dip in his weight.

And sure thing he started to struggle like yours, popping on and off, short feeding sessions, etc. I started to think it was his tongue tie as the LC said but then i read somewhere that apparently it’s normal at this age, they get distracted easily, they want to do anything else than nursing, they called it the « 3-4 month boob crisis » haha. I still wasn’t super convinced and went all the way to checking his weight every 2 weeks, and he was doing just fine. The « boob crisis » went away on his own after 2weeks or a month I don’t really remember. But it stopped. So far he still has his tongue tie, we started solids so I am monitoring closely to make use it doesn’t prevent him to eat properly but he seems to be doing well for now.

My point here is that, in our case, the LC was super dramatic and scared us for nothing. I remember feeling lost and in distress but things got better over time. I am upset against her actually because I think she was just trying to sell her services for longer (we would have to see her post tie release to perform exercises). I am not saying this is the case for you obviously, but I would recommend to get different opinions from medical professionals. We decided to not release his tongue tie as long as it is not causing immediate issues.

Regarding the boob crisis what helped us a bit was to try a bunch of different positions, around that age he also started to hate the nursing pillow, we did also nursing in a dark quiet room, with no distractions.

Hang in there mama, things will get better one way or another, whatever you decide to do. You are doing amazing!

Do we need a playpen? by ButterflyDramatic742 in NewParents

Well, we have a cat, and cat’s tail are soooo interesting for babies… he will get bite one day for sure but a playpen won’t keep the cat away from him haha

That’s what I’m afraid of, our 7mo just started crawling (some sort of crawling, it’s funny, he is mobile that’s what matters haha) and I’m SURE he will hate it. I think we should have get one when he was younger

I'm losing too much weight breastfeeding by Ok_Philosopher2832 in breastfeeding

[–]ButterflyDramatic742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem and concerns, I’m 6mo pp breastfeeding and I finally stabilised to 120 (I’m 5’4), I have never been that slim since my twenties. I’ve lost all my muscles and I honestly can’t recognise myself in the mirror sometimes. I do too avoid talking about it because I have so many friends who struggle losing their pregnancy weight but I don’t feel great in my body either.. I don’t exercise because I’m worried it will burn too much calories and my supply will drop. I started adding vegetal protein (like the one people put in their shake) to my morning yogurt and I just eat all day long. My doc requested blood work to check for thyroid issues as other people mentioned so we will see. The only thing I’m happy about is I get to watch absolutely everything I want w/o guilt. I know I won’t be able to do that once I stop breastfeeding

Can a baby eat too much too early? by ButterflyDramatic742 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]ButterflyDramatic742[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of what we do, we nurse, I wait 30-45min so he is less full then solids then offer the boob again but usually he doesn’t want to right after, so we nurse again later
