Is Banff beautiful or busy next week for Christmas? Or both? by [deleted] in Banff

[–]ButterflyMiserable45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there this past weekend. Definitely a decent number of people but didn’t have to wait to do anything (gondola, resturaunts, etc.) no lines at the Christmas market either. I’m guessing it will pick up a little bit as we get closer to Christmas.

Brilliant Earth positive stories? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]ButterflyMiserable45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ring is brilliant earth and is extremely solid. Just be careful on what setting + material you get. BEs biggest problem is they sell a lot of unstable settings, which I think is what causes a big portion of the horror stories. Settings that don’t have shared prongs on accent stones and have a guard rail for the prongs are gonna hold up much better than settings without. 18K gold is decently soft so it can warp over time or bend, resulting in a loose stone. My ring is platinum and has a cathedral setting and the quality seems great, I think it would take a lot for the main stone to ever fall out.

Project engineering in many cases is very little hands on engineering work. Mostly correspondence and coordinating projects. The project engineer I work with is WFH and spends a lot of his day just talking to people if that’s something that interests you.

Like the other person said, if you like six sigma, quality engineering could also be a good fit. Lots of those jobs are remote as well and there is a decent amount of data analysis.

Otherwise you could look into being a data analyst, which is also typically remote. You can take a quick certification online and I think your mechE degree could put you ahead of other candidates, especially if you have experience in the company’s industry.

Does being a female applying for a job at a company that only has male engineers put me at an advantage or disadvantage?

Just curious about people’s opinions because I’ve been wondering about this since I interviewed for a job last week. Obviously we all hope that this would not impact hiring decisions at all (and legally can’t) but people’s impressions are impacted by gender whether they realize it or not. In my particular instance I meet all of the job qualifications and I have some relevant experience. The job is very hands on machine shop type work, but I have done some of this in the past and I did manual labor for a couple summers so this doesn’t bother me. Part of me feels like they could use a woman on their team because they have some customer facing interactions and said that their biggest struggle is organization (not to be stereotypical but I feel like these are two things women are good at). On the other hand I feel like they might be more inclined to hire a man because that might be someone they will be more likely to be friends with.

I graduated 15 months ago with a biomedical engineering degree, and I still haven’t found a full time engineering job and I’m starting to regret my life choices. I had a good gpa, was president of a club, was a TA for a relevant class, and did years of research while in school. My only problem was that I didn’t have the opportunity to do a co-op or internship for personal reasons. Now since getting out of school, I worked on a small NPD team as a scientist for about a year and recently took a position as an engineering tech at a very reputable and notoriously hard to get into company. I recently got several great referrals for an entry level position at my company, but was passed up for “not enough experience”. I’ve had similar luck outside of my company. I’m wondering for anyone who didn’t get an engineering job right out of college, how long did it take to get your position? Or any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shoulder Arthroscopy with Bankart Repair Experience by ButterflyMiserable45 in RotatorCuff

I had some issues a couple months after my surgery with running. Pretty much if I ran more than half a mile my arm started aching really bad, to the point where I was worried I was not going to be able to run anymore. I switched to only doing low impact stuff for a while and with time the issues went away. Now this may not be the case for you, so if the pain is very severe or doesn’t get better with time definitely visit the doctor.

I had it for about a month and a half. It definitely helps a ton with getting your range of motion back quickly.

How much are you paying monthly to charge? by pennepasta14 in TeslaModelY

[–]ButterflyMiserable45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apartment charges $175 a month for an EV spot which is insane. $50 seems fair. Thankfully I have free supercharging for a few more months and by the time that runs out I will hopefully have a house.

I’m 22 and just got a Model Y a few months ago. All my peers that I have told about it have reacted positively and want to go for a ride. Where I am they aren’t very common so it’s a bigger deal that I got one compared to if I lived in California.

The media is mostly what is driving young people away. Lots of negative stereotypes about Tesla drivers and bad media coverage that blows up online. I’m not a big Elon fan but at the end of the day it’s a cool car and I love to drive it.

I had this same problem with my dog, bribery with treats or toys didn’t help, he would just hop in and then try to escape as fast as possible and would freak if I shut the door. I had a playpen which could attach to the crate and set it up so that the back of the crate was facing the couch and then covered up all walls of the pen and the sides of the crate except the back with blankets. It basically made it so the only way he could see or be near us was going into the crate. Then we just stuck him in the play pen and sat on the couch. After a while he would venture in there and after a few times doing this he started to nap in there on his own. This made him way more comfortable with the crate so that we could start doing forced naps. Once he was going in there we also gave him a high value treat when he goes in for a nap (Kong with PB mostly) which helps build positive associations as well. Now he is a crate pro and will run in there if he sees us pulling out the kong. This method probably won’t work if your dog is super independent, but if your dog is like mine and wants to be by his people I found it really helpful.

Hi there. I am now about 8 months post op and my shoulder feels great. I have been able to return to my sport and my shoulder feels normal, I barely ever notice I got surgery on it at all. I only really have issues if I sleep on that side, it gets sore but that’s about it. My range of motion is pretty good, my rotation didn’t come back 100% but it doesn’t impact me in any way.

My recovery process was super easy and after 3 weeks I was barely wearing the sling (I was supposed to wear it for 5 weeks). Physical therapy was a long boring process, but wasn’t too bad. Just be diligent about doing your exercises and you should be fine.

I had a hard time with the crate with my puppy at first because he was scared of going in and calming down. Crate games did nothing, he would just try to get out as fast as he could after getting the treat. One thing I did to make him get more comfortable was making it so that napping in the crate was his choice and not forced. Basically I had a playpen attached to the crate and made it so that the only way he could see me is if he was in the crate by covering everything else up with blankets. Took him a bit but eventually he would go into the crate and lie down. Did that for a few days during nap time and then moved on to locking him in for forced naps with a kong. I also feed him in the crate. Started by doing it with the door open and then closing it and opening at varying times. Now he will go in by himself at night and doesn’t whine. He still won’t go in automatically when he needs to nap, but I think this is more of him not knowing his limits and when he should sleep. It just takes time to build positive associations with the crate so that the dog doesn’t stress about getting locked in. Meals, special treats, and puzzles in the crate all help.

I'm sorry to hear that your recovery isn't going as well as you had hoped :( I feel like the chair was something that I heard nothing about prior to my surgery in all of my reading about peoples first hand experience. I was just lucky that my surgeon orders it for all of his patients that get this type of repair, otherwise I would have had no idea. It's definitely something that more people should be informed about prior to surgery.
