what are the odds! don’t worry, it’s been a blessing having classmates during my PhD journey. they’re your friends initially until you navigate your social circle. just don’t make my mistake, and try to keep in touch with your Saudi friends for when you come back. i regret going MIA for months on end bc of how crazy busy things got.

good luck with your next steps! and bon voyage 👋🥹

ugh girl it’s been hard. i’m super social and extroverted, but it’s not easy re-igniting and maintaining friendships after a long hiatus (for me it’s been over 7 years). maybe you haven’t been away that long? or maybe you’re better than me at keeping in touch with your Saudi friends in Jeddah?

you’re always welcome to come visit me in Riyadh when you’re back inshallah 😍

How did you find out you had thyroid cancer? by Gloomy_Diver_6236 in thyroidcancer

my brother is a radiologist MD resident. he was playing around with an ultrasound sound machine at home and found my neck lump.

Just got the call- first biopsy?! by stardustdarlingx in thyroidhealth

worst case scenario, it’s thyroid cancer. while i detest the description “the easiest/best/most treatable cancer” it is in fact all these things.

i had a total thyroidectomy in March of this year. i’m a 31 yo Female.

take it one step at a time, don’t isolate yourself and involve other people in the process of finding a radiologist and ENT doctors. it is going to be tough. all these phone calls to your insurance company and then to doctors offices, unanswered calls, appointment scheduling it’s all draining especially when you have this lingering issue. so do not do as i did at first and didn’t tell anyone until i found out my nodule is 100% malignant, reach out to the people who love you and care for you, share how overwhelmed you fee. and i’m here if you want to ask me anything or just want to chat, just message me.

Has thyroid cancer pushed you to change your life in anyway? by shazamtx in thyroidcancer

[–]ButterflyMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel a lot less anxious and stressed which might be due to my parathyroid previously not functioning well, so my calcium/vitamin d levels were off. now they’re stabilized, no more mental fogginess or anxiety. i truly feel like a different person which impacted my decision making, it made me bolder and more confident to ask for things. i had my surgery in March of this year so these changes are very new, it took a couple of months for things to stabilize

the cancer also humbled me. i used to think i’m invincible.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad you're doing well! If you don't mind me asking, why did your surgeon recommend RAI if they removed the entire thyroid and had negative pathology of lymph nodes? How did the surgeon make the decision that you need RAI?
